Let me know how that works out. Post pics. I've got a couple of those filters sitting around also.

I wonder if the weight of the bicycles and the rack exceeds the maximum recommended tongue weight. Oakland, CA has used the Transit Connect for the Police Crime Scene Unit for a few years now. San Francisco has Transit Connect in several agencies, including Animal Care & Control. San Mateo has a bunch of Transit Connect all marked with logos and flashing lights. Most cities have found a use for Transit Connect, outside of pursuit.. It is a decent transport vehicle moving personnel. Good enough to carry a small team and equipment for maintenance, grounds keepers, public works, et cetera. And apparently perfect for reserve police officers and their bicycles.

Is that the empty weight of the travel trailer? Or is that the weight of the trailer, and everything inside of it? You should be able to hitch it up, and get moving. Perhaps a bit of a strain going uphill, and at highway speeds. The extra strain on your engine and transmission should be considered. The hard part will be stopping. It is never a good idea to tow beyond the recommended weight. It just isn't safe. I would not do it. You're better off renting a truck.

Just about any 1.5 ton scissor jack should fit where the factory jack was. You can check with a dealership for the factory original. Or buy a blue color Ford branded scissor jack for a lot less. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ford-1-5-Ton-Mechanical-Scissor-Jack-FMCF0004/207015226 Model # FMCF0004 Internet #207015226 Ford 1.5 Ton Mechanical Scissor Jack $2176 Overview This 1.5 ton mechanical scissor jack has a 3,000 lb. weight rated capacity. It also has a wide base for additional stability. Scissor jacks, even the factory supplied unit, just are not very safe. Now is the time to consider buying a better jack. Floor jack. Unijack. Bottle jack. Jack stands. A really good floor jack will still cost less than trying to replace an OEM scissor jack at dealership pricing. Look around and find something in your budget. Bottle jacks can sell for as low as $10. Wally World had a floor jack for $18. Or look for something a little more expensive, and consider it an investment. Everyone has their own opinion what the jack they like, and where to buy it from. Plenty of people have Harbor Freight jacks. I still like to buy things from Sears. In my Transit Connect, I have 2 UniJacks & a floor jack. My strategy is to be able to lift and support the vehicle safely. This is also the same combination of tools I use for an oil change, so I just leave it in the van. Just for good measure, since it does not weigh much or take up much space, I also threw a bottle jack in next to the OEM floor jack. There's already a thread on this forum about jacks, and you should find a lot of information. Instead of telling you to search for it yourself, I will provide the link.

What to look for in a used 2016
Fifty150 replied to TCjeff's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
Funny how we all have a different perspective on life. I actually don't care about color. Every truck & van I've ever owned, has been white. Because it's the most common color for commercial vehicles. When I had Jeeps, they were red. Back then, Jeeps were only in a few colors......red, green, blue......and somehow the Jeeps I bought, with the package I wanted, were red. I've had cars in different colors. But the color just wasn't important. More important for me, was getting the right "package" combination of engine, transmission, interior, et cetera. But I know, that I'm the only person who doesn't care. Everyone else cares. They don't spend $$$XXX, to get a car with a color that they don't like. -
Engine Oil Filler cap for 2014 Transit Connect
Fifty150 replied to CarlaCB's topic in Maintenance
Go back to the dealer, and insist that they give you a free oil filler cap. And then insist that they top off the oil for free. Since you obviously did not take the cap off on purpose, to cause hot oil to spray out; so that you can go back there to scam them for an oil cap and oil. -
How to Install Latest TCM/PCM calibrations on 2014 TC
Fifty150 replied to Dre3000's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
I was under the impression that computer updates were proprietary, and only available at dealerships. That's why we don't see every corner mechanic offering computer reflash. I don't think it's as simple as downloading a tune file online, then uploading it yourself.- 7 replies

What to look for in a used 2016

I pulled up to the fuel pump. As I got out, the attendant had a nervous look on her face. She subconsciously took a step in retreat, as she asked, "do you need help with pumping your gas today?". Was it the white creeper van? Or just that I look creepy, holding a roll of duct tape? -
Okay. I get it. It's not like other service vans which carry, ladders, lumber, thousands of feet of extra wire, hundreds of feet of pipe & conduit, all sorts of fittings, thousands of pieces of hardware, and everything from hand tools, to power tools, to welders, air compressors, et cetera. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians.....easily haul over a thousand pounds of extra weight. I was imagining a mobile workshop with all sorts of pumps, motors, hoses, enough stuff rebuild, refurbish, or repair everything on the sales floor at Sears. The other day, as I was driving around, I found a shop which only repaired lawn mowers. The kind you push, not the kind you ride. This place was in a large warehouse, and there were at least 2 dozen workers on workbenches actually doing repairs. I never knew that kind of business could even exist.

Try eBay. Sometimes a dealer might have an old owners manual in the attic.

Top 5 Things About Your Transit Connect
Fifty150 replied to OLDSCHOOLFOOL's topic in Lounge Transit Connect
I've driven Chevy Express & Ford Econoline vans. Transit Connect's parking is superior. But it's smaller, and holds less stuff. I think of it like comparing an F-150, to a Ranger. But not the new Ranger, which is larger than the old Ranger. -
That's just a sticker. Nobody pays sticker pricing. That only serves to set a higher asking price, because the buyer will ask for a lower purchase price. Then they find a way to work in rebates, and still turn a profit. In some cases, the rebate is their profit. That's where you balk at the price, tell the dealer, "For that kind of money, I could drive a Mercedes Metris. I wouldn't give you more than $$$XXX out the door!" Well, except for maybe, that 1 guy who does pay sticker.

Mine is also an XL, and it came with the auxiliary junction box.

Good job! Caught the error before the van got on the road.

Refueling is the biggest problem with electric vehicles. In order to use the vehicles on a commercial basis, not 1 company is able to start a shift, operate for 2 - 3 hours, then wait 6 - 8 hours for a recharge. Most commercial vehicles need to be able to operate for 8 - 12 hours. In order for a private owner to take a road trip of any significance, the driver would spend more time charging than driving. Not to mention that you have to plan your trip from charging station to charging station. I live in The City. Common scenario is for someone to park at a charging station, plug in, then walk away. Next electric vehicle owner comes along, parks next to that car, unplugs the first car in order to plug in his own car. First car owner returns in a few hours, and his car did not get charged because someone else unplugged his car. Now he can't leave and go to his next destination or return home. Apparently, we've already reached the saturation point of vehicles versus available chargers in large metropolitan areas.

Here is a video. Different car. Same transmission. Same process.

2013 xl with flat line leaf spring

Just wondering how well the van handles if you are weighed down all the time, and how the suspension holds up. What are your impressions of the Transit Connect, in comparison to working out of full size trucks & vans? My van has only been used for passengers, not enough weight to make any difference at all. With 7 passengers, the acceleration, braking, and maneuverability was still the same; which is suppose to be how it is designed. From past experience, with trucks & vans, weight and cargo placement really changes the ride.
