I agree with Fifty 150, 62MPH is an interesting speed limit to set.

LOL, that is a simple fix. Over the years Ive gotten accustomed to resetting my trip odometer every time I fill up. I reset one of the odometers in the TC every time I fill up now out of habit. Its also fun to watch the instantaneous mileage display. My current motorcycle has similar features and Ive used them to great effect, particularly the instantaneous mileage display which seems to have a slower update frequency than the TC and therefore is a little easier to judge with. A few times Ive missed a gas station and its handy to have an idea of how much further you can go. The motorcycle simply says low fuel and tells you how far you been since the low fuel light goes on. I nursed it to a gas station last trip and put 4.09 gallons in a 4 gallon tank! Think when I fill it all the way up I'm actually overfilling a bit but still ran it very low. Nice thing about the bike is at 80MPH (in Wyoming of course) it gets 42 to 43 MPG, slow down to 55 and it will get something over 70MPG! The TC responds to slowing down but not nearly so spectacularly.

Years ago my wife had a side window shatter in her GMC Safari. Driving down the road and there was crack and the shattered window fell out! It did not have defroster wires but as I recall would open a little bit - it was not open at the time. The dealer replaced it without any issues under warranty. I eventually decided it was due to stress on the glass. I haven't used the rear defrost much if at all. I'd get the defrost checked yo make sure it is functioning correctly after the glass is replaced. For replacement glass my recommendation is to make sure quality replacement glass is used. Several years ago while visiting out son in Albuquerque NM, my W rabbit was broken into with the passengers window being shattered - thieves got a nonfunctioning XM radio (LOL)! They also broke into my sons Vibe. Took the Rabbit to the VW dealership while he called a nation glass replacement company. VW dealer couldn't get OEM glass so put a Chinese made window in. Sitting in the back seat the waves in the glass were very apparent. 8 or 9 years later we both still have the cars, both windows still go up and down and the VW window is still wavy - not fun to look thru from the back seat. His window was much cheaper, and much better!!! I complain to VW but they really didn't do anything. That was the last VW I bought new, bought one used since then but after my success in recent years with VW's I am done with them. In addition the VW dealership didn't do a very good job of cleaning up broken glass in the car.

Glad it was fixed and without too much trouble. That wheel damage is pretty amazing.

Do you have all of the keys that came with the TC from the factory? With the MyKey feature it is possible to set a speed limit for a key. I had a rental CMax in Italy which was limited to maybe 10KPH over the Autostrada speed limit of 130KPH. Problem was there as a 5 or 6 KPH error in the speedometer so in reality it would go 3 or 4 KPH over the speed limit. Made passing very difficult on the Autostrada. If you don't have the master key I'm not sure how to undo it. Maybe purchase another key? However that's $$$$!

Welcome! That sounds somewhat low but not crazy. Don't know what the local terrain is like but here in the suburb I live in we have lots of hills. I have seen as low as 7MPG average when just driving around locally with no interstate. I get 25 to 28 on the interstate depending on speed and terrain. 70 or 75 doesn't seem to matter much 80 is a little bit less but sometimes necessary to keep from getting run over! For diagnostics first check is tire pressure, the OEM tires run 42 PSI if memory is correct. Doesn't help the ride but goes around corners better :-) Second thing to check if alignment. If the front wheels are toed in or out that can hurt mileage. Ive wondered about mine but haven't checked - its only got 11,000 miles on it - a 2016 I bought new a year ago. You know everyone is going to say bicycle person doesn't know about alignment but I align my motorcycles all the time. If the rear wheel is not true to the front wheel they don't turn correctly. A third thing is the gas, if you get real gasoline mileage goes up, with the E10 mileage goes down. A few years ago I was driving every Saturday to see my mom. I would get on the interstate and set the cruse on my Volt at the same speed. I could tell a difference in headwinds but sometimes the mileage was a few MPG different. Rain is bad for mileages well. My plan was to use the TC for trips and hauling stuff but use my Volt for local trips. My son's car broke and he has been driving my Volt while saving for a new car. He has a job and no wife or kids or debt so Im expecting my Volt to return very soon!

That is a very cleaver and creative rack and tarp. Love the black unistrut really gives it a nice clean and modern functionality look. Life with small children is a lot of fun (most of the time). We had 4 kids over 10 years, seemed like a lifetime before everyone was potty trained. Now I'm reaping the benefits, today picked up my twin grandchildren and took them to lunch, 2 hours for lunch which went like playground, food, playground, milkshake, playground. Looks like your neighborhood is like around here - people drive too fast. I will refrain from jumping up on my platform about speeding - I love racing and have ridden sport bikes for a number of years BUT neighborhoods and places with people around are not the racetrack!

IMO I think you have a good solution at hand. Good to have a repair shop that gave you a straight answer, or you now know about the broken axel. The broken axel would not let you go anywhere. The TC doesn't have a limited slip differential so all the power goes to spinning the broken axel and making noise. It takes very little power to make lots of noise. :-) Eagerly waiting to hear the outcome

Lots of miles but wonder if the CNG helps. Gasoline has some blowby and does contaminate the oil, haven't thought about it but if CNG doesn't contaminate the oil as much maybe better oil life and lubrication. If its had regular repair and maintenance should be pretty good but Id expect to have to fix some things. Keep us posted on how it performs. Lots of knowledgable folks here. If I think mine is slow I go out and ride my Honda Metropolitan scooter. After that everything is fast!

Its been a year since I bought mine and it just rolled over 11,000 miles. No complaints, has been a great vehicle for me and have put more miles on it since my sons car broke and he has been driving my Volt which is the perfect around town car for me. I changed the oil at 5,000 miles but didn't reset the reminder - wanted to see when it said to change to oil. It went on at 10,200 miles. Im going to change the oil this week and will reset it then but don't thing will go 10,00 between changes.

Sorry, it's a Connect. The regular Transit would be nice for hauling stuff and camping but too big for me on a daily basis.

Very nice bike. Was at the Vintage Festival at Barbers last month. Lots of vintage bikes racing. It is fantastic to see the old bikes out there racing.

I have a motorcycle ramp, great for rolling my scooters in and out. Low floor height is great and makes it not difficult. Think the ramp came from Cycle Gear. Some places sell two ramps for lawn mowers and 4 wheelers. Its aluminum and very light but has cross bars instead of a solid ramp. OK with 10" scooter wheels but would not be good for smaller wheels. There are wide versions of this type or ramp available. In the photo the ramp is folded and stored beside the scooter. The rear seats are out which makes it lower. The middle seats are captains chairs and the front wheel of the scooter fits between them. Depending on the weight and wheel size of what is being rolled into the van plywood could be used to cover the ramp. Nice part of a low floor height is the scooter can be rolled into the van without too much effort and then while holding it in place I can step into the van and put it on the center stand and then tie it down.

Welcome! Are you planning on hauling your race bike in the van or on a trailer? Down here racing starts in February with the WERA races at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway and ends with the WERA GNF in October. I have a LWB 6 passenger wagon which I haul my scooter in. I usually take out the two rear seats and fold the middle buckets down. The front wheel fits between the two folded seats. I small racebikje would fit as well, not sure a 600 super sport would fit. The two rear seats bolt in with 4 bolts each and If you could find a pair you could probably figure a way to mount them. You would also need to add seat belts for them as the belt is mounted to the body and the latch is part of the seat. Which organization are you racing with? What kind of bike? And of course it would be nice to see some photos.

Not very familiar with the chip mods for non turbo motors. Know there are production line differences and some motors or better than others, IMO the chip tuners are trying to better optimize for more specific circumstances and possibly fuel. With everything at optimum there is probably some power gains that can be made. Probably would come at the expense of fuel economy and possibly emissions. However the lightning fast acceleration of my TC leaves me wanting nothing so haven't looked into more power! :-)

I have an old Holzclaw dirt bike trailer. The came with two or three rails the pivoted in the middle. With a rail pivoted to the ground you would roll the bike on the trailer and the rail would pivot flat as the weight became biased towards the front. The rail was then fastened on the front with a bolt or pin. Something like that but with a wider platform instead of a rail would be ideal. The trailers are very light with less than 1,000 pounds capacity. They have coil springs with shock absorbers, something of a rarity in the small utility trailer world.

Towing equipment questions
PhotoAl replied to AVguy2's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Towing & Upfit Packages
Very nice, I have the factory trailer hitch but when looking for a TC considered a couple without it and thought I could go aftermarket. I really like what you have done. It's a great installation. This is a big help to other out there. I recognize the lawn mower and leaf blower but confused as to what the ret thin in the right front corner is. :-) Seriously I do recognize it but would only need one about every 15 or 20 years.- 60 replies

I was thinking of left to right side balancing on the hitch, not front to back. Every now and then I'll see a hitch platform with much more weight on one side with the platform drooping a lot on the heavy side. Every time the vehicle hits a bump it will trust the hitch. Saw one this summer that was almost on the ground on one side - and the van (not a TC) was obviously overloaded as it was sagging a lot in the rear. IMO, and I'm not a mechanical engineer, the hitch is stronger than what it is rated for. Seems like the tongue weight and towing weights are driven more by gross vehicle weights of the van than the hitch structure itself. Aftermarket hitches are rated for much more and look to be about the same build as the factory hitch. If the van were relatively empty I would expect it to be able to tow more and have a higher tongue weight capacity. However since I'm still under warranty I'll be keeping my limits within the Ford specs. Other day I was looking at a motorcycle hitch that basically clamps and holds the rear wheel at the hitch. I was thinking that would be very nice for my motorcycle except that it has a total weight of 470 pounds with 60% on the front wheel. Including hitch weight would be very close to the hitch tongue weight of 200 pounds.

FS - WeatherTech mats, Ford roof rack, Focus ST wheels

Im interested in the roof cross bars. Send me a PM please on how to purchase. -
Ive seen some of those mobility scooters going down the road and really twisting on the hitch. My first thought is wow that a heavy platform, could you get an aluminum one? Second thought is to make sure the mass is centered over the hitch with not more on one side or the other. Ive looked at hitch mount rails for my scooters (2 wheeled variety) but wound up putting them in the van. Have you thought about putting it inside? I have a LWB Titanium and regularly run without one or both of the rear seats for the additional storage space. For my scooter I use an aluminum ramp that fold in half. They make wide version as well. Of course inside the van opens up the problems of tying it down so it doesn't become a flying object in an accident. I like the factory hitch but haven't used it but a couple of times.

Help diagnose intermittent growl/vibration/shudder?
PhotoAl replied to photon53's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I'm thinking ABS issue. My wife's car one time had a problem that we think was the stability control kicking in at the wrong time. One of her front tires was very low and the car tried to make a left turn! Vey scary for her. We had it towed home where I checked tire pressures and cleaned all of the ABS sensors. Been three or four yeas and the problem has never reoccured. I would check the ABS sensors to make sure they are clean and free from dirt and metal garbage. Check the connections to make sure they are secure. Im tempted to say use some electrical dielectric compound but not sure about those connections as they are very important to ABS, traction control and stability control. I would not count out wheel bearings either as it may be a slight difference in road slope or surface of something that causes the vibration. Good idea to check brake rotors although Id use a temperature gun as they can be very warm after driving. -
Top 5 Things About Your Transit Connect
PhotoAl replied to OLDSCHOOLFOOL's topic in Lounge Transit Connect
When I went to Yellowstone on my motorcycle I found ethanol free gas easy to find in Nebraska and westward. It was great, with a small tank I had to be very mindful of fuel mileage and really like the additional mileage from E0! In the TC and other cars I put whatever is in available in it but will buy E0 if available. Not going to use E15 if at all possible. Found this gas station in Kansas (which has the fewest gas stations of anywhere Iv'e ever been). I run E10 in my scooters and even though they sit for sometimes a couple of months Ive never had a problem with them. Seems like the blend and additives are pretty good from my experience. Not sure about other brands or cheaper gas. Scooters and motorcycle use so little gas I never look at the price, I'll even use premium in the scooters from time to time although it not necessary but at 80 or 100 MPG the cost is very small. Second photo is Wyoming - since I only got 2.12 gallons wonder how much ethanol was in the hose before the good stuff started flowing into my tank. -
Am I the only one who hates these fasteners?
PhotoAl replied to Don Ridley's topic in Exterior Parts & Panels
I hear you having dealt with those type of fasteners with splash shields on several cars. Good idea to replace with the jack nuts, I probably wont do that until I have taken the splash pan off a few times. MY TC splash pan was the easiest to get off and on that I've seen. Others have been on VW's. -
Congrats on your new to you gen 1. Although I have a gen 2 and love it the gen 1s have a charm that isn't quite matched by the newer ones. We need to know what kind of motorcycle you are hauling around. That's one of the reasons I bought a TC. However I have yet to haul it anywhere, I just ride instead :-) I regularly haul a scooter in the van but rebuilt an old Holzclaw motorcycle trailer to haul my motorcycle. John Son Don't know what your budget is but I bought my 2016 TC at the end of November last year. It was brand new and I got a great deal on it. Im not crazy about the color (white) but wound up with a Titanium with the Ford MySynd radio with navigation. It wound up being just a little more than a good used one from someone like CarMax. I had to drive a few hundred miles to get it but I'm very happy with it. I spent several months looking for one (partially because my wife forced me to fix up the old car and get ride of it and one motorcycle first). When I was looking there didn't seem to be a lot of difference in price between different years say 14, 15 or 16. In 17 they went to the Sync 3 radio over the Ford My Touch.
