Dashboard difference 2016 & 2017
PhotoAl replied to Danielle Withrow's topic in Audio, Navigation and SYNC
From what I know, the 16 has the Ford MyTouch and the 17 has the Sync 3. Both are the high end systems with the large screens. The dial and switches below the screen are different. The other radios with the smaller screens seem to be the same from what I’ve seen. For replacing a basic radio with an aftermarket one would be the same for both years. Crutchfields is a good site to explore the differences - see what they say for ‘16 versus a ‘17. Don’t know of differences in backup camera. Many aftermarket double din radios have a backup camera input. -
Not the same problem but I’ve got a 2008 VW Rabbit that has a door lock switch issue. Folks in the VW community have figured out it is a micro switch that is only available as part of a larger assembly. Some have replaced the switch with a similar micro switch which is inexpensive. I’d look to see if that could be done.

Weird starting issue 2010 Transit Connect XLT
PhotoAl replied to nick28's topic in <i>Maintenance</i>
Appears to me to be an issue where the battery voltage drops too low when load is put on it. A bad internal connection in the battery can do something like this, not sure about the self healing though. Cables, including ground connection points, engine to body etc. Power relates like starter solenoid might cause this. Puzzling part is the intermittent nature. Those problems are the most difficult to diagnose. A voltmeter in the cigarette lighter or connected to the battery (don’t hardwire one without a fuse) can give insight into what is going on. A careful systematic approach can save lots of time and money. Had a motorcycle that I replaced the battery on, then it quit on a couple of days later, replaced voltage regulator, finally turned out the problem was the stator (alternator). -
Wheels from the Focus, particularly the performance models have been used by a number of people. There are several threads about that. My TC is new but would welcome more info for future repairs and upgrades and mods.

LOL what I learned from 4 kids is to never walk around the house without shoes - LEGOs hurt when you step on them. Now they are grown up and soon will have only one left at home.

Excited owner of new to me 2014 Transit Connect XLT (SWB) wagon
PhotoAl replied to Guitars4cancer's topic in Welcome!
Welcome and I'm envious of that engine. I needed a LWB so it wasn't for me but would love to have a turbo as they can be bumped up a bit in power. When I was shopping I noticed TC wagons are pretty scarce, SWB are even rarer and I can only imagine how much trouble you had finding the 1.6 turbo. -
4th question, I noticed the same thing the other day. It only shows on you when you are logged in. The rest of us do not see the details. I'm relatively new and saw the same thing a couple of days ago and then realized what it was. 1st question, if it is the black lump looking thing then I think it is the GPS receive or Serrius antenna. I have the Ford MyTouch Sync with Navigation and noticed the lump. I don't have a sunroof so I may be wrong. I have a '16 Titanium LWB I bought new about 5 weeks ago. I plan to remove the back two seats and sometimes the middle two as well. My plans are to haul grandkids, haul stuff wife buys, haul my scooter to the race track and camp in the van and tow my motorcycle. Don't know if you have fog lamps or cornering lamps but they look similar but function differently. The cornering lamps come on when turning (not sure if they are speed sensitive or not) while the fog lamps can be turned on or off and if on are on all the time. Finally here is a link to the 2016 owners manual. I've found it to be nice to look thru but not a replacement for the paper copy that comes with the van. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/vdirsnet/OwnerManual/Home/Index?bookcode=O29591&marketCode=US&languageCode=EN&VIN=&div=f

Good to know where the microphone is, I've wondered about it but not enough to chase it down. As for the switch that is very interesting. Presume the sticker is for tools to cut seat belts and break windows, great idea to put them there.

Seems like a lot for a blower motor. RockAuto has one for $135 MOTORCRAFT MM1109

Thanks for the photos. I believe you are correct about the little holes being microphones. Ive looked in them and couldn't figure out anything else they could be. I see you have the cornering lights. I like mine, they really light up the side when turning. My other vehicle is a Volt and it is extremely difficult to see to the side at night (i absolutely love it otherwise but it can't haul my scooter or motorcycle).

Here is a link to where you can purchase a service manual. I'm going to do it but waiting till I need it or the van is out of warranty. There are two versions, the more expensive one has hyperlinks which would be very nice as well as additional connector info (what they say). Not sure what that means. Does it have the pinouts for the connectors? Not sure. https://www.factory-manuals.com/expand-ford-transit-connect-2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-factory-repair-manual-344.html

cross bars for 2017 TC Wagon
PhotoAl replied to Jatoba's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Towing & Upfit Packages
Saw this on eBay and wondered what you thought about it. Looks like it will fit the factor rails, it does say may need to cut the bars to fit but the end caps and clamps look like they will work. My need is to occasionally haul a sheet of plywood for something longer than will fit. https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-TRANSIT-ALUMINUM-TOP-ROOF-RACK-CROSS-BARS-CROSS-RAILS-2014-2017/302025457407?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D41375%26meid%3Df1554996d0a148eab30f002b09e1b6f0%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D182427086757&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 -
Love hearing about the trips. Hope to set out on the road this spring and make some longer trips. Have a son in San Jose who may be going to Portland or maybe somewhere else so need to visit. If Portland will have to haul my Kawasaki Ninja. If the Mrs. votes to stay home I'll leave the TC and just take the Ninja. In response to Booomerweps question about roof racks found this on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-TRANSIT-ALUMINUM-TOP-ROOF-RACK-CROSS-BARS-CROSS-RAILS-2014-2017/302025457407?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D41375%26meid%3Df1554996d0a148eab30f002b09e1b6f0%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D182427086757&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Looks like a set of crossbars which will fit TC Vans with the factors rails. Think the 17's come with them standard at least on the XLT and Titanium. My 16 has the roof rails but didn't come with the crossbars. Looks like this will fit mine and the 17's.

Have not seen that before but haven't been running much Mobil 1. There is a thread on Bob is the Oil Guy https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/4282675/New_Mobil_oil....M1_Annual_Pro which discusses it. Seems to be a long life oil but nothing new about Mobil 1 have an annual oil change interval. I try and change the oil before the manufactures recommended oil change mileage and if not up to that point then within a year. Plan for the TC is to go with Ford's recommendation. I've thought about changing the oil before 1,000 miles to get rid of break in particles. I like the oil monitor concept. have been using it on the Volt and it's nice. With 5 cars, a motorcycle and two scooters it's hard to keep up with when what was changed.

I have a VW took called VagCom which has be great for the three VW I had. Fixed several problems on a 2008 Rabbit that I traded in on the TC. Would love to get a tool like that for the TC. Looked ate the Mongoose and it's $495 and might be better for the Volt than the TC at the moment. The Forescan is very intriguing and I'll probably go that direction. Remember the Cosworth Vega, had fortune about it till now. Interesting little car and certainly better than the reputation Vega's had in general.

Picked up my new 2016 Transit Connect Titanium last Monday. Really excited about the van and have lots of uses planned for it. They range from hauling my twin 4 year old grandkids around to hauling my scooter to the racetrack and camping it it to hauling my motorcycle around. I'm retired and am a semi-professional road race photographer shooting primarily cars and motorcycles. At the track a small scooter is the best way to get around with all of the camera gear. With the seats out either of my scooters will fit in the back. Haven't tried but the Honda Metropolitan would probable fit with the seats folded. Also have a Kawasaki NINJA ZX6R 636. My wife has plans to use it to haul stuff that won't fit in her Smart car. She has yet to drive it as she is a bit apprehensive about the size. I think that's kind of funny as she drove a GMC Safari for many years hauling our kids around. My current car is a Chevy Volt. Had been looking for a while at new and used TC's and found a few which met my criteria using a 500 mile search radius. For vehicles which are slow selling they are hard to find. Desired features were backup camera (Volt doesn't have one and is hard to back up), if new wanted Sync3 radio, if used didn't care as much would go aftermarket, 6 passenger (reclining middle seats), towing package, roof crossbars and no sunroof. Found the 2016 and the dealer came off over $7K dollars so I bought it. It has towing package but no roof crossbars, myTouch Sync radio with navigation and backup camera, 17" wheels and leather seats. Had to drive to Knoxville TN ((250 miles) to get it and took the opportunity to spend a couple of nights in the Smokies. Drove to Cades Cove and did a 5 mike hike (easy and short according to my wife). Being new I didn't push it but was very impressed with how it went around curves. Wife did not get carsick which she usually does. The following day we drove 300 miles going back home. Initial impressions: Drives very nicely, firm but not bumpy, quiet if the rear fan is low or off, some wind noise about the same as my Volt at 75MPH. Brakes and handling are good for a van. As many have said it drives like a car and I totally agree. Have not accelerated real hard but power seems to be adequate, better than the Volt on the interstate. Everything is relative as my motorcycle gets to 60 in about 3 seconds and can do a sub 11 second quarter mile. I'm having to get used to looking at a gas gauge, stopping at gas stations and using the key to unlock and start it. My daughter has a Honda Odyssey, a nice van, but a tank compared to the TC. I can live without the power doors and lift gate. Looking at the dimensions the TC is 12" longer and 2" wider than my Volt. The Volt will still be used for short trips around town and a backup. Planning on getting the public domain scan tool for Fords along with the PDF manual. I have a Volkswagon scan tool and it has been great for diagnosing my VW's ( currently down to 2 kids cars plus son-in-law). Other plans include changing lights to LED, ceramic tinting for windows to help with heat during the summer, making a floor for use when the seats are out and making a bed for camping.
