Eddy Kilowatt
As anyone who's looked for used Wagons knows, you have to look for awhile to find one... at least if you live outside a major metro in North America. This CPO 2015 with 61k miles was at a dealer 100+ miles away, but they finally got eager enough to sell ($15.5k)... and I finally got tired of looking for Deep Blue, my sweetie's preferred color (the principal part of the car-buying process she has input on). So we have a thoroughly minivan-colored minivan that's a real snoozer, but hopefully will earn its keep hauling bikes, camping gear, Home Depot loot, and visiting family from the airport. What's peoples' experience with the Indicated-MPG readout? Am I to believe the 29+ mpg it reported on the (mostly freeway) drive home, or the 31 on my 35-mile commute? Fifty150
Only one way to find out. Log your mileage and fuel purchases. Do the math yourself. Or use fuel economy.gov
Eddy Kilowatt
I've already added it to my "garage" on Fuelly.com, so I will be finding out. Just curious what the collective wisdom is here regarding accuracy of that readout.
PhotoAl
Its been reasonable close but those numbers are very good. Much better than what I get. Looks like you have the short wheelbase, do you have the turbo motor? Nice looking van. You did better on the color than I did (delivery van white). Yes they are hard to find although I looked the other day and saw a number of new ones on Car Gurus. I drove 300 miles to get mine but got a new 2016 a year ago. Dealer came off about $7,000. There are several threads about the automatic transmission and the "lifetime" fluid. With 61,000 miles I would recommend changing the fluid. I have a VW 2008 Rabbit with the same transmission claim - fluid is lifetime. Had it changed at about 60,000 miles and it seems to be doing OK. Beta Don
I have a SWB 2014 and at steady speeds of 65 to 70, I get right at 30 mpg, give or take 1 or 2 Don
G B L
if you add hills and mountains it will take 3-4 off the 30 mpg. Right now it is 15 degrees and that will knock another 1 mpg off the 30mpg
Fifty150
Where I live, it's nothing but hills and mountains.......also translates to high transmission fluid temperatures.
windguy
@eddy kilowatt - great looking van, nice color - congrats! You got the van for 1/2 the cost. Very cool! So is this your van or her van?

That's true with just about any and every car. In a major metro, you can pick & choose whatever you want like a buffet. Get away from a big city, your choices for everything become limited. Some things you can live without......traffic, noise, crime, street protest, vice activity. Most people don't even want the things that big city dwellers consume.......24 hour gyms, restaurants, grocery stores, fuel, entertainment, vice activity. Most people don't crave a Salvadorean pupusa in the wee small hours of the morning, a high stakes card game at midnight, nor need a lobster & caviar at 4 AM. How many of you actually seek out a strip club with a lunch buffet, for the day shift dancers? Some things you can't live without......like access to modern life saving medical care. At the hospital, I see patients travel for hundreds of miles to see specialist. Whatever your medical needs are, I would hate to be hundreds of miles and hours away from a doctor who knows how to help you. And you would be surprised at how many people who come from hundreds of miles away, decide to book a room overnight, and take advantage of what I take for granted every day. I'm off to the club now. It's shift change. The midnight to 6 DJ, bartenders, & club kids are going to dance until dawn.

Very cool! So is this your van or her van? Mostly mine, and mostly weekend duties, though I'll make sure she knows how to drive it. We quickly, and without any prompting, fell into the oft-reported Transit Connect Couples' Dynamic... i.e. she says "why not an SUV, that's what all my friends have"... and he says "... but this is so practical". Or in other words, she's not going to be clamoring to drive it, but she'll be happy enough when it brings home ten buckets of gravel for the driveway. In fairness to her, we did go on our first date (long ago), and our honeymoon, in a German sports car... so at some point I am going to have to make some amends in the vehicle-fun department. Fifty150
Reminds me of my ex telling me, "this is not a date car!" She hated riding in my pickup truck. She was scared that the Explorer would kill us like the Crown Prince of Tonga......and we are not Tongan. My Harley has a solo saddle, so she had to follow me everywhere in her Honda. Imagine me riding into the Honda dealership on a bike, and pulling into the service lane. Then telling the service adviser, whom I happened to be acquainted with in another walk of life, to take care of The Old Lady in the car behind me. Then she has to get in the Honda customer courtesy shuttle which took her to the nearest transit hub. I pulled up next to her, and waited with her at the bus stop, until the bus came. She had a choice. She had more than one choice. Ride with me in the Ford Explorer SUV, and know that we are not royalty from The South Pacific. Manute Bol, Tito Ortiz, and Quentin "Rampage" Jackson all drove Ford Explorers. Actually, Jackson bought his Explorer used, from Ortiz. Or ride with me in the F-150, Lift kit, 35" tires, off-road lights, and rumbling glasspack mufflers - which embarrassed her because one of her co-workers kept asking her about what it was like to ride in a "monster truck". Beta Don
Well, you sure showed her! She's (not surprisingly) no longer Mrs Fifty-150!! Don
Fifty150
Rest assured, there are other girls who will ride in the 5150 mobile. The current girl remarked that the Transit Connect was kind of a creepy van. Like I was driving around with puppy dogs & ice cream, trying to lure victims. She won't be around much longer. I'm just holding out for Christmas, to see how much she spends on me.
davidparker
Congrats on your new wagon. If you are like the rest of us, you will soon really like it. She will too (although it may take a while). My wife was ok with it at first. But now thinks it's cool.
