  1. 17s only offer marginal better options than 16s. I will just stick with what I already have.
  2. Thirty some odd years ago I started carrying two sets of keys at ALL times and to date it has not failed me. My wife likes to make fun of me with all the keys in my pockets but she has locked herself out of the car several times but not me. I also have trained myself to remove the keys whenever I get out of the vehicle.....religiously. If there is a passenger in the car they may have to do without AC until I get back. Pissed a couple people off by this but they didn't ride in my car again after that. Was looking at some new cars lately and it seems some do not even have manual keyed doors. Maybe they airbrushed them out of the pictures, I don't know. I have a feeling the days of me buying new cars is over. Grumpy OldSchoolFool
  3. I don't know about all that. I seem to recall you hold the record for largest diameter tire on the front of a Gen II.? I was hoping someone might have already run this size. It occurred to me that I could possibly simulate the 245/45/17 size with what I already have by using 245/50/16 with a 5mm spacer effectively setting the offset to +45. The diameter is almost identical. Being on a fixed income now I need to be sure before buying something else that I can't eat. The simplest and probably best choice may be to simply run 235/45/17 which will DEFINITELY work and gives no speedometer error.
  4. All very good info and as you say given offset and width the backspace can be easily calculated. I know there's adequate inside clearance and I am comfortable with the tracking of the wheel. My concern is with the reduction of offset and the width of the TIRE that the clearance on the outside back of the TIRE might not be adequate at full on turn. The change in the arc radius might cause rubbing at that point.
  5. Truth is I have also lost track, I think somewhere round 8, 9, maybe as many as 10 sets. Maybe even some more if you count different combos of wheels to tires. I've tried different tires on the same wheels and vice versa. I am without doubt a Wheel Whore. I have given most away but still have on hand 4 different sets. Specs on the wheel are 17x7.5, +45 offset, backspace is 6.02".
  6. Thinking of putting together a set of 17s and I was wondering if anyone had ever run 245/45R17s on a Gen 2. They are virtually the same diameter as 245/50R16s which I have run but they were pretty close in the front due to the width. Also the wheel would have +45 offset thus pushing the tire a little farther out.
  7. What would be the cost of this kit? Tried to find the cost but Google results were vague at best. I'll comply with this when: 1. It becomes very inexpensive 2. A sensor is designed for older wheels 3. No "re-learning" is required 4. Possibly when hell freezes over I keep a close watch on my air pressure manually. Have a set of wheels with sensors and one broke while remounting tires, had it replaced at the tire shop and it did not work. My other wheels simply don't have them. I ignore the occasional beep and info display and the flashing light that goes to steady on after a few moments.
  8. I like these wheels and have looked at them before. Nice clean lines with a relatively classic look. But, I DO want them wider and they just don't make them that way.
  9. I get that. Just used the VIN number and the quote drops to $399. Apparently there is an electric defroster option I thought I have but do NOT.
  10. Just got a quote to replace TC windshield at Safelite for $709 due to a rock strike. Is this normal? Sounds high to me.
  11. No sludge or "milkshake". I'll pass on tasting it.?
  12. I always shoot for 4K between changes. Maybe its a little under or a little over that but I don't stress about going a little over. I also don't depend on the indicator to tell me when it needs changing. Could have used the reset post a little earlier yesterday since I changed the oil and had to look up in the manual how to reset it. The warning just happened to coincide with the scheduled change. Have an old pickup that I only change once a year (need it or not) since I rarely put 2K on it per year.
  13. You guys made me curious too and I checked and I do have these. Don't remember ever using it but if I ever did it was by accident since truth is I don't know how to make it work. My "senior moments" seem to be a little longer in duration.
  14. Anything that helps break up all that black in front is good, but that price is insane.
  15. 235/50/17 is virtually the same dimensions as 235/55/16. I did some fairly extensive research because I wanted to use the 235/55/16 on the front and pair it with 15 inch rims on the back but could never find a matching set with mixed 15s and 16s. On my 2016, the conclusion I came to is that it would be close but should fit just fine. However, with aggressive terrain and a lot of flexing it might be a different story. IMHO.

    Oil

That's a good price. Where did you get it from? Last oil change I could not get an appointment at the shop so I did it myself. I had said the first time I changed the oil myself I would toss the under-shield but it was SO easy I put it back on.
  17. I find that the glove compartment works excellent. Even better sometimes I forget that its in there once I get to where I'm going.
  18. I run three different size setups on the front (rear doesn't count), none of them stock. 245/50/16, 225/55/16 & 225/60/16 for 1.2%, 1.6% & 5.1% respectively. The only one that concerns me much is 5.1% cause if I push the envelope too far I'm in "ticket range". The error gets progressively less as speed reduces so mostly its only at highway speeds that it matters much. That said, since retiring recently I find that there is never a need to get in any hurry to get anywhere.
  19. A very LITTLE cat... Mouse trivia: Where ever the little bugger can get his little head thru,,,,he can get the rest of his body. They can get into some incredibly SMALL openings.
  20. I now have this problem too but I can see obvious signs of little rat bastard mice under the hood. Probably going to have to put it in the shop to get the mouse habitat out. Somehow. I hate those guys.?
  21. Me being the cranky old mistrusting guy that I am, I could never trust such a feature but I can appreciate the idea in general. Making several trips form VA to NC and back over the last couple of weeks, I notice that when ramping down the speed manually on the cruise control that the van will downshift to slow down to the new set speed if the adjustment is quick. Don't really like this since I'm used to the vehicle coasting under this condition or even picking up speed if going downhill. Maybe I'm just a control freak.
  22. I was trying to work something out like this with push thru center caps, trim rings & chrome lug nuts. What I was looking at was using some steel wheels at 65.1mm hub dia. with a push thru center cap. Theory was that the thickness of the center caps would reduce the diameter down close to 63.4mm (.030" material thickness) and retain the hub-centric aspect. My question to you is: What is the hub diameter on these wheels?
  23. I'm all for a vehicle carrying more passengers, not much more annoying than a big-ass SUV that seats four or five. But I'm wondering where the feet of the middle passenger is going to go? Can just imagine a left foot jamming on the accelerator during a short stop! Maybe its the right foot in Europe.
  24. I had wheelspin when I first got the van. Changed out the original Continentals for a wider footprint and haven't had any issues since, wet or dry.
