There was a recent thread on the topic. I believe it was behind the glove box.

Morning, I'm pretty sure the wiring is identical. There's no economical reason to have separate wiring looms for different regions. Open your Owner's Manual and see the fuse box layout, the DRL relay should be listed, see if yours is there. Does yours have a rain sensor? Over here they have the DRL and rain sensor in the same package for a reason unknown to me, especially considering that the DRL are mandatory and all cars have to have those standard. Edit: wait, perhaps the rain sensor goes together the auto headlight on function, not the DRL function. DRL only run at 60% voltage and are no good for night driving.

The title is always the hardest part. Is Hobby welding good enough? -

Good info, thanks. I think we need to split this thread. The OP must be confused as hell 8) -

It has a polarity switch but it's too weak for doing any serious welding, I think. 140A, IIRC. -

Gas, MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas. I have 80/20 mix of carbon/argon. -

Yes, a MIG welder. Just some cheap one I bought for working on my cars. -

But they do Already repaired the sills (welded one side, will be doing the other this summer). I acknowledge I have to replace the panel van (the older one in my signature) soon, been looking for low mileage Gen1 in Germany for a while (no salt there), have a search alert in mobile.de. -

I personally prefer the 1st generation model (I'll list the reasons below) but if I were to live in the US I would go for the new one for its much newer technology. They dropped the ancient Focus engine/tranny combo in the US 1st gen TC because it was readily available and didn't cost anything extra to manufacture, both are based on the same platform and apart from 10 mm drive shaft length there are no differences under the hood. We didn't get that combo because no-one's interested in a gasoline van here (diesel all the way), we only got the 1.8 Zetec gasoline unit for a few years and it was dropped with the facelift IIRC. The same way as no-one's buying diesel in the US (apart from some "freaks"). This has changed with the new gasoline engines now, the small EcoBoosts are available, not sure how popular tho. So you can see the reliability rating of the Focus for that. The old TC is extremely popular in Europe (Brits and Turks are completely nuts when it comes to modding) so you'll never run out of accessories or parts. There are people I see transplanting Focus RS engines + 4WD in the TC (Focus ST170 seems to be pretty common conversion). I haven't driven the new one but went to see it for several times, the seating is too cramped for me. I'm 6'3" on a bad day and everything (including the pedals/controls and dials, no actual armrest) is a bit off while the Gen1 is 100% perfect. Good visibility, max cargo space in a minimal package. I also like the looks of it and the large flat advertising space for a sign job. Rides stable like on tracks, smooth clutch action and the precise shifter click is enjoyable (only applies to the manual model). Again, in the US I would go for the new one especially if you don't have very specific reasons against it like I do, it's supposedly much better, more aggressive looking and attracts many accessory makers. The new LWB model has much more cargo space in length. -
2013 TC XLT Cargo. Why two dials with defrost icons? Front glass heated?
mrtn replied to Campcrazy's topic in Climate Control
You can see the heating wires in the windshield if you look closely. Or check if you have the left button in the top right corner: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/0jYAAOSwoydWsKMo/$/$_57.JPG It switches on the heater. Very unlikely tho, we have just had a topic here where it became apparent that you only got the windshield heater with Gen2. -
The Ford 6000 CD head unit has phone buttons even if it wasn't equipped with the bluetooth module. You can check your VIN here: https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do (Vehicle > Vehicle lookup) It should give a list of the full configuration, for example "BT/VC Phone Interface Only" if equipped with the module.

Ordering question
mrtn replied to jackandnora's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
Much of it possibly related to latitude. I wonder if there are seat heaters standard in Florida. (Over here A/C has been extra in lower trim levels pretty much to the mid 2000s, my TC has none. Haven't seen a car without one past that point tho) -

There's also the novelty factor. Quick clear has been standard equipment for Fords here for the past two plus decades, so everyone expects the replacements to be in reasonable price range. -
FYI: there are filters for sale which dimensions vary by almost 10 mm which is A LOT for a thing that's supposed to be snug fit. Not sure if it's because of different mounts on the car or something else. My van has an insert grill on top of the mount and the grill goes IN the mount and needs a smaller filter for that to work. The last filter I bought was an exact fit for the lower mount and there was no place to fit the grille anymore so I left it out.

These look like 2009+ Gen1 seats.

You access the pollen filter from the outside: http://workshop-manuals.com/ford/transit.tourneo_connect_2002.5_06.2002/mechanical_repairs/4_electrical/412_climate_control_system/412-01_air_distribution_and_filtering/description_and_operation/diagnosis_and_testing/removal_and_installation/pollen_filter/

All jokes aside, might be, there are a couple of winshield manufacturers here. -

The Gen1 quick clear windshield costs €230 + labor here. Most people have insurance covering the glass + replacement in case of stone chips or cracks. -

The panic about quick clear lines is an aquired problem. The lines are half the thickness of human hair and you have to focus hard on seeing it in detail. It might bother a fighter pilot but not a regular person with a regular vision. The feature is the best Ford has come up with. Had it in my '96 Escort and fell in love with it fight away. No scraping needed, the ice and mist is gone in a few seconds (or 30 if it's really thick). It reminds me of the other unbearable problems people list justifying their car related choices: "oh, I can never drive an automatic because""my left foot is just so used to clutching and I'll be all over the brake pedal with it" (stop it, it'll be ok in two days max) "I'm a MAN/WOMAN and want to be in control of my own car" (right) "I don't like Bluetooth hands-free, I have too sensitive stuff to talk about" (stop cheating on your partner or get an earpiece) "what's streaming?""oh, no, I have all my CDs with me, they're classic" (let me consult my calendar for the current century) "the quality loss of streaming/mp3 is not acceptable, CDs all the way, I only listen to vinyl at home" (which measuring instrument you use for listening to music in the car?) "I got the regular cruise control with my brand new car because I don't like the automatic accel/decel of the adaptive cruise control" (be honest, you were being cheap) In most cases a simple "I like it" would do. Admitting that the technology is way over your head and asking for help is out of the question. Heh. -
Okay.

I have used Sikaflex windshield adhesive for weather strips.

Yes, You either have the fan speed control resistor pack failed or the plug melted. When did you last change the pollen filter? A clogged filter overloads the fan.

Dim Headlights

It should be the other way around. The DRL should be running at some 60% intensity for saving the halogens and only getting full power when switched on manually. Probably something wrong with the relay. Check the book for the correct relay and try reinserting it first. Perhaps it's just a bad connection.
