If yours is Mk1 it's a frequent problem, usually a bad BCM.

My buddy driving an E-tron said LPG is cheaper than electricity per distance over here. Then again, electricity price is abnormally high at the moment.

If the only symptom is not starting in cold then the obvious and cheapest fix is replacing the glow plugs. I did mine when there was only one functional one left. Replaced all, the plugs were around €10/pop.
