High beams great, low beams s*ck
Boomerweps replied to MLB's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lights, Mirrors, Window Tint & Wipers
Did you mean the EU market? Just checked my 2017, the adjusters are there. -
Just checked, just over 3000 miles. I'm too cheap to change them out so early I'll just have to keep washing them off for now. Just wondering if anyone noticed this. The pads will be well broken in on the trip through CO and UT mountains.

I don't remember the brake dust being this bad on the 2014. My 2017 brake dust makes my wheels look like I live on a dirt road. I get dirty checking the tire pressure. Is it just the newness of the Ford pads, only have about 3500 miles on them? Anybody find some nice brake dirt deflector covers?

GPS antenna? I thought that looks like the Sirius radio antenna.

Nice touch of detail to match your vehicle paint.

Added USB Power to Overhead Shelf
Boomerweps replied to DonShockley's topic in Accessories and Modifications
Don, is there any reason NOT to do this USB modification tapping into the courtesy lamp power switch? I'd like to add this but don't feel like pulling all the panels -
The package shelf's secrets
Boomerweps replied to Usually Befuddled's topic in Audio, Navigation and SYNC
Never saw any doors on the visor shelf. The doors are on the 2nd row seats aircraft style storage bins, a special order option. The visor shelf center was designed to have a drop down convex kiddie mirror and a sunglasses holder. I have it on my 2017 but not on my 2014, same XLT trim packages. There is a thread that shows pictures of the back side of the removed shelf where the owner installed some power points. "Added USB power to package shelf". -
Saw a Utube video on cheap & easy window screens and I copied that. Only good for fairly flat topped windows. So no good for the front doors but good for the sliding door windows on the wagon. Go to Home Depot gutter section and pick up a couple gutter screens. (Actually buy three cause their cheap under $3 each and it may be a challenge to get the right fit they are white plastic with a bunch of 1/4" diamond holes in it and backed by screening. You can cut them with heavy duty scissors or tin snips or a utility knife. They have a thin channel on one side that you can fit over the window and just pop them into the window channel. I cut my first one, matched the second one to match backwards (screen ended up outside). So I got another and fixed that. I took the wrong cut one and trimmed it to fit my Explorer back window and then made a two piece one to match out of the scraps for the second side on the Explorer. Here's the finished window screens for the sliding doors on the TC, marked so I don't screw up. They are not square on the back, they are tapered. It does take some fiddling to get them in, on the top of the window, in the window channel, and futzing with the safety stop and open when the window hits an obstruction. So you have to tap the power window up to hold the screens without lowering itself.

transit connect wagon need dimensions and features/options availability
Boomerweps replied to joejoerising's topic in Welcome!
Passenger vans are more costly to import into the USA than cargo vans, at least for the Transit Connect. FORD converted the imported cargo vans into passenger vans in NJ somewhere for 2010-2013. -
My 2014 XLT SWB was and 2017 XLT LWB (both wagons) is quiet enough on road trips. The back AC fan above position 2 is annoying to me as the middle seat vent on the B pillar is too close to my ears driving. Seats on the two are the same, fairly comfortable. My butt gets tired now in long drives, so on trips my wife and I swap out driving. I also bought a gel pad from Walmart that I use on trips. Changing out the seat position, fore and aft, and tilt, AND changing the telescoping and tilt steering wheel also helps my back and shoulders on trips. But (pun intended) overall, the seats are average. NOTHING like my 1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer front leather seats. They had the same comfort level as sitting a sack of concrete. I'll have a more definitive answer end of August. Making a 3200 mile trip to St George Utah from Northwestern PA via Mount Rushmore 4 days out, 3 days back, with a couple weeks rest between.

disappointed with estimated mpg for city driving
Boomerweps replied to TransitTenore's topic in Gasoline
Gotta ask, are your mpg numbers from the trip computer or have you figured them out yourself? Also, when I got my new 2017 XLT LWB after trading in a 2014 XLT SWB, I was confused by the added features to the LED display. Ford added a couple extras including a trip 1 time, trip distance, average trip mpg, average trip speed ( that was the one that got me!). These are separate from the overall operating time, average mpg, current mpg, and speed. Previously the only trip info was trip A and trip B distance. My point, hope you are reading the correct display -
Nice step bumper Guard. IIRC, the owner's manual lists a rear sensor disabling procedure but it also mentions it isn't a permanent disabling. The section is for when backing up while towing or using a hitch hauler.
-
The fold down lever on my 2014 was a latch on one of the seat back top shoulders. Then again I'm basing my post(s) on my new XLT vs. my 2014 XLT and from what is listed in the sales brochures.

Nice awning setup. Me, I keep things even simpler. Got a 10x10 EZ-UP with the screen room kit.

First road trip in the new 2017 LWB
Boomerweps replied to Boomerweps's topic in Lounge Transit Connect
Back home last night. Took us 11 hours to get back due to road destruction and a wrecked Semi in WV on I-79. Took only 9 hours down. Unloaded last night, swept out and washed the TC today. Got a little nick in the windshield already and need to get some touch up paint for a bumper scratch! I can not stand the middle seats fan control on high. The vents are in the B pillar so they roar close to the front seat people's heads. Missed having the satellite radio, but I did figure out how to use the FM radio seek control finally. Never used it in the 2014. MPG stayed similar to the drive down, around 25.5. I expect better when I get away from all the mountains and hills. Plus we only have about 2500 miles on the TC, half from this trip. GPS is a must around Sevierville. Built up and heavy traffic, you really have to know when to change lanes, to find places and get around. Like a smaller version of the Kissimmee-Orlando area. I do recommend the Hatfield McCoy dinner Feud, good show, great all you can eat dinner. Busy weekend with sound company gigs, so maybe I can get that darn Hitch installed next week. -
First road trip in the new 2017 LWB
Boomerweps replied to Boomerweps's topic in Lounge Transit Connect
In Seveirville, using the resort wifi. Lotsa moving road blocks, having to speed back up when going uphill, a basic PITA. Plus following my son in law for most of the trip. Speed up, slow down. Anyways, lotsa hills and mountains in WV & TN. Average speed 68 mph, average mpg 25.5. Used the select or sport mode on the transmission quite a bit. Mostly so it would downshiftfaster, not too much selecting gears. four days in TN, had as much luggage and snacks, cooler, ect. as when we went to UT for three weeks! phone GPS works great. -

Daughter talked us into going with them on a 4 day stay in pigeon forge TN. They bought into a time share deal ? Anyways, my grandson will be riding with us, keeping the grandkids well separated. I'm looking at this as a trial run, just a nine hour drive. We want to take him with us in August to see Mount Rushmore and on to Utah to my wife's cousin. I know, hot time of year but the only time we could work it in. I'll be monitoring the MPG closely. Won't be controlling the travel speed down, we'll be following my son-in-law in a four door F150. Our last road trip in the 2014 SWB from PA to Utah and back went well. Probably my 2nd favorite road trip vehicle. Had a 88 Aerostar that was almost as good for trips. But my all time road trip fav has to be my first vehicle, a 66 Mustang convertible I bought in 74. Top down, Kraco 8 track blaring Aerosmith, speeding along at 65 mph (10mph over the national speed limit at the time!), just a sailor on leave.

The 2017 TC TELLS you when to change the oil based on your driving conditions. NO oil change interval is specified. In the past, I always changed mine spring and fall so I could do it in decent weather with no heated or weather tight garage.
-
It pays to read the owner's manual. You can program your second or additional keys to limit your TC's speed and place limitations on the radio volume and cause it to mute for certain circumstances. I forget the details right now but it would be very good for a parent of teenagers. The limits only occur when the TC is operated by the limited program key AND none of the "master" keys are within transponder range. So when junior gets his driver's license, you can give him his own key! And have less worries.

2015 TC XLT. Kinda A Tent On Wheels...
Boomerweps replied to davidschap's topic in Transit Connect Member Custom Builds
Ford has a series of Utube helpful hints. One of which covers proper folding of the LWB Transit Connect seats. Found them last week and went through all the ones of use to me. -
Probably it's just me but I would have to pull those tan rear door cards and paint them white to match the doors. They look so cheap. And it's an easy cheap fix.
