  1. You can't go wrong with Hidden Hitch or a Curt Hitch. Wiring adapters are inexpensive enough. I used to use Hop-I-lite brand. On my last few vehicles, I got the towing package on them for a few reasons. Often better gearing for the hills I deal with every day and sometimes extra cooling, heavy duty flashers, etc. Before though, I always installed my own, usually bought pre-internet from J.C. Whitney
  2. A lot of the stealth campers use Reflectix foil covered bubble wrap insulation that you can get at Lowes and Home Depot. Just cut it to fit tight in the window frame area and push it in when needed. No light plus insulation plus reflect sunlight.
  3. Many insurance companies will fix windshield chips for free, even if you have a comprehensive deductible. Saves them money by hopefully preventing a full windshield replacement. In PA in the USA, I usually have to replace or repair my windshield for every five years of vehicle use. So I also had my insurance changed to have a no deductible on glass.
  4. Mine is my wife's daily driver. She loves it. 2014 SWB XLT with the twin rear doors. Has pretty much all I wanted but I wanted it in the LWB version. Drives and rides like a sports car. Wanted the longer version for cargo capacity, hauling sound gear. Went looking for a LWB to trade for but we decided part of our attraction to this vehicle was the rear cargo doors. Couldn't find any new TCs in LWB without a hatch except a couple that had many options I didn't want to pay for nor desired, or didn't have the ones I did desire. I think I did a 200 mile radius dealer search through Ford. I tolerate the loss of vision in the rear center for their convenience. I do wish they would make the rear camera selectable while in drive. my only real complaint is that with the engine compartment being so tight and the vehicle so low, I can't change my own oil. I can't even drive it up on mechanic's ramps!
  5. Is that it, front and center in the lower portion of the picture?
  6. I think you need to paint the bumpers white for the total look. Also, looks like you pulled the rubber rack plugs. How are you sealing the holes?
  7. 2014 TC XLT SWB Where is the darn microphone for the Bluetooth phone use? I usually have to shut the windows for people to hear us clearly and we prefer to have the windows cracked as both my wife and I smoke.
  8. It was NOT standard with my 2014 XLT swb. Had to order one in. Supposed to not fit in the rear position with the tow hitch installed (just connect to that), but for a front pull, IMHO it is a MUST. There is no decent way to get under the front end and find a place for some hooks, especially in bad weather when you will most likely need the pull. $30 is the going price from a dealer. It is the same left hand squared threaded unit that the escape can use. Yes, Ford made it so you can't just buy a nice standard forged eyebolt, you have to buy a Ford one. ?
  9. Big worry there. Traditionally coat hooks were normally installed where the Transit Connect has side curtain air bags. No safe place to put them in the rear seat area, IMHO.
  10. Very cool extra storage compartment you get in Europe. I thought the original subject was on the the overhead front visor shelf. That has a non functioning glasses holder and rear kiddie mirror shown in the US brochures but did not come on my 2014 XLT SWb ?
  11. Change password

  12. TC was the wagon model. I usually get 28.5mpg something for local highway miles, 55-60 mph. Had about 2500 miles on the TC starting the trip. Averaged around 25.3mpg on the trip, little local travel there, cousin insisted on driving us most of the time. Running 75-85mph a lot, still got about 23mpg. About 8100 miles on the odometer now. I think it's fully broke in now. The MPH values are vehicle trip computer values. The wagons are passenger car quiet. The one touch windows, up/down all windows, is a great feature but sucks for smokers trying to vent and get the window just right for draw and least wind noise.
  13. Oh, yeah 2.5L engine. Another reason to avoid the hitch-hauler was loss of rear camera use.
  14. TC SWB XLT with standard 4 cylinder engine, tow package. 2100 miles & change one way northwestern PA to southwestern UT. TC performed beautifully, the view out front was great. Set the speed control usually 4mph over the speed limit and it handled great except for some bad winds in western KS, wife hit it driving both ways. Meaning 84mph out west. Trip was I-80 to Akron, cut down to I-70 in Columbus, OH, then clear to I-15 in Colorado. Hit quite a bit of road destruction (suck). After a motel hell stay in west Denver, left at 4am and ran into an early May snowstorm. The truck mandatory chain up signs were all lit. Went about 60 miles through ice & snow. Adequate driving performance for a fwd box with new summer tires. Wife was freaked out though. Vehicle performed alright with the crap UT gas, 85 octane with 10-15% alcohol for regular out there and cost $0.40 more than back home's regular 87 octane. Great seats but we added a gel pad to alter the butt pressure occasionally. Packed behind the front seats level with the bottom of the windows going out, but with purchases, I had to buy a couple big duffle bags and the back was packed to the roof with crap flying forward on panic stops twice. Should've taken the hitch-hauler I bought for the trip but left home after considering the nightly removal at motels. No roof rack either. Rear camera really came in handy on the trip back. Already planning another trip there. Either with the hitch-hauler and a lot less luggage/car trip stuff OR after a LWB trade in, maybe with roof rack ?
  15. Watched the video. It does appear to be a loss of voltage going to the headlamps. I think the "adjust the beams" commenter did not watch the video. The low (or half) beams on the TC do seem to have a drastic cutoff focusing. Noticed that first night with it.
  16. I noticed when putting the Transit in gear going through reverse to drive the rear camera would activate for a short period, a few seconds. I also have the last song show up sometimes when starting the vehicle. There is supposed to be a reply function on the Sirius but it always messes up for me. The Ford owners manual is severely lacking in describing the radio functions.
  17. I use a suction mount just below the large rear view mirror plastic. I did clean the area and suction cup very well first. Worked well.
  18. According to my dealer parts department, my 2014 XLT only comes with the filler panel based on my VIN. Methinks a call to Ford is in the making.
  19. I'd say the receiver class in this case is based on the towing & weight capacity of the way the unit mounts to the vehicle. Likely the vehicle frame can't support the class 2 rated weight. 2000/200 is by definition class one and it has to be able to handle 3500/350 to be rated class two, 2 inch receiver or not. Although the norm is 1 inch class one, 1.5 class one or over but under class two, 2 inch class two or greater. My 2008 Explorer has a factory class three and my Expedition has a class 3/4. Class 3 is 5000 pounds, right?I'm glad it is a 2 inch receiver for all the common accessories I have. I have several ball mounts for various heights including an adjustable one, a Reese bike rack, and a hitch hauler cargo platform, all in 2 inch tube. When my yard drys up (hard winter), I'll have to do a test tow run with the TC with my 8.5x4x4 foot 2000 GTW cargo trailer, even though the Exploer will remain my primary tower.
  20. Your post is confusing to me. My 2014 wagon ( 5 passenger) does not have pockets in the rear door although the panels are not the Masonite delivery van stuff.
  21. Barn doors. Was really wanting the security of being able to lock up. If I could get the wifey to truly camp, one of those SUV tents with the open drawstring side would work fine. Likely going to mostly motel it on our upcoming trip. Was looking into doing a partial camper conversion to one of my cargo trailers last year but did not follow through ;(
  22. Bought the 2014 TC in SWB, wanted the LWB but this one had more of what I wanted. Overall, love it, drives like sports car. But, planning a long trip and wanted the option for my wife & I to sometimes camp in TC, saving $$ & being able to pull over whenever & wherever to sleep. Bottom line, we are both too tall for the vehicle. I can build a 2/3 platform for the passenger side, put the front passenger seat down, and use a twin size air bed for one of us to sleep while the other drives. Too bad the drivers seat doesn't fold down, too.
  23. Too much hassle. I have one also on a 2014. Put a rubber fill cover on it, helps a little. You'll get used to it. A hitch receiver can come in handy for other than just towing a trailer. Bike racks, hitch hauler (platform), actually pulling your transit out of a ditch or snow (did that already this winter). New TCs do NOT come with the screw in tow loop, and the manual says it doesn't work with the receiver in place. You try crawling under the Tc to attach a tow cable, especially in mud or snow without messing it up IF you think you found a place to attach to!
  24. Class three receiver is overkill, the transit connect is only rated to tow 2000 pounds.
