Towing with a 2014 or newer Ford Transit Connect
mrtn replied to TC4K9's's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Towing & Upfit Packages
Also thought of getting a fiberglass enclosure but it'd be on the way for most of the time. -

Wait, does the towball move in the attachment? It should not. I did have some Westfalia towbar in my Civic and it was hard to get to tight because it was based on some eccentric tightening principle but all others have been very tight. The one in my other car is Bosal and it sits so tight that it does not fix itself if there's even one sand grain between it. So it needs to be clean and then just insert, and it clicks, automatically tightening itself: -

Mine's Mk1 and has no probs even with overweight trailers. Once transported a scissor lift of the size of my van. That felt a bit heavy, it was only a couple of miles so I took it really slow. I'm sure the new model is even better. -

Common sense is the key here as pretty much anywhere. Up to 60 mph everything is usually safe. Above that different things start to happen. Every wind gust, every emergency braking becomes an issue. Always strap everything down so stuff don't move around in case of braking or turns. The trailer has to be a bit nose heavy. 100 lbs at the handle is good (like an unloaded trailer). Never have it in balance or tail heavy, it may cause fishtailing and/or lift your car up. Think in advance, keep plenty of room in front of you for emergency, mind the corners - leave enough space for the curb. Keep in mind that your car is now twice the length and act accordingly. I have a 5x10' singe axle light trailer I drive weekly. -
Remove the plastic corners (warning, there's also a screw) and just clip the lip in place. It has no other attachment than the clips and matching holes in the metal bumper, inspect those in advance so you figure out the movement. Then reattach the corners which cover the ends of the lip.

Black Headlights. 2015 Only?
mrtn replied to DapperVan's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
Nate, it does not seem to be the rule here, see my post on page 1, there are two European models there, one with an amber side marker, the other clear. -

Heh. I think I'll just go and pick one up in Germany. -
In addition to that: fuel pump (usually wears out gradually, not in one day), cam position sensor.

How many miles on the engine?

It keeps the rear end clean and their logos visible. Obviously.

Those were cool. They were marketed in Europe as LiteAce, never seen the TownAce variant in person. Other very similar Japanese vans were Nissan Vanette and Mitsubishi Delica. They were big in early 90s.

It's not the load capability only, it's mostly the issue of too high center of gravity.
-
The large display touch things are not that important anymore as the only thing you really need, is the Bluetooth connection and the rest runs from your smartphone - media player and navigation.

Take it to the dealer and let warranty worry about that. Also, yours should have USB port so I strongly suggest you rip your CDs and put the mp3 on a thumb drive. You can have dozens of CDs on a tiny USB stick and not worry about mechanical devices fail or discs scratch.

The shortage is really irregular. My months long daily search has been a regular failure. I was thinking there was a suitably configured model available somewhere, so far none. I need a LWB 120 hp turbodiesel with a rigid bulkhead with a pass-through loading door, barn doors and one sliding door in the rear (no glass), cruise control, radio with Bluetooth. That's it. Instead there is one with 120 hp and rear windows, no cruise control, or one with cruise control and blind boot but 95 hp. And so on.

Well, be happy you still have regular turning knobs as these are slowly disappearing from the market. First a push button you would have to look at before pressing it, now touchscreens which are complete WTF, like we have to stop the car before using the HVAC controls. There's no muscle memory that can be used for touchscreens. My Toyota has a push button for the telephone screen, then there is a 6 x 20 mm "Speed Dial" virtual button on screen you have to hit while driving, it's the size of a vitamin capsule. Then, if and when you manage to hit it there are matchbox sized speed dial buttons for contact names. Well, hello. Don't get me started about voice controls
