Safety Recall 21S24

Recommended Posts

Well, Ford finally agreed to a recall on the shifter cable bushing that

was posted years ago on this forum regarding the defective bushing on the 2013 - 2016 Ford Fusion.  I just received my recall notice in the  mail for my 2015 Transit Connect.  Get it done as it will save you time and money in the future and you ,know it will happen to you at the most in opportune time.  Not an expensive part and very easy install after you know what you are doing, but let Ford do it.

@High Mileage Jim - Thanks for posting about the recall. Glad Ford finally stepped up to address the known problem.

Interesting that the recall covers even recent 2021 built vehicles, yet this problem has been around for a while.

Perhaps Ford didn't have enough of the replacement parts to cover new builds and recalled vehicles. You have to wonder.

Link below for the recall if interested.

I still don't understand why I got my recall notice in Spanish.  But I finally got it done.  While it was there, I got my oil changed for free.  The dealership is now charging $100 for an oil change.  I'm sure glad that I own a $1 Harbor Freight wrench.

Don't understand.Looks like a bill for 98.05.

I have the safety recall and a service scheduled for next Wed and sure would like to have the service be " no charge".

The bill for $98.05 is for the free oil change.

That is what they charge for an oil change, if I did not get it for free.

Help me out here 150.

How and why did you get a free oil change?

And what the heck(being nice here) does a $1wrench have to do with it.

I think your $100 oil change is what my dealer calls "the works".

This includes fluids check and top off, brake check, safety check, tire check and rotation and other items along with the oil change.

This "works" for me because, being retired,I no longer have access to a shop, have a stone driveway and no garage. In the past,I had the "perimeter light  issue" solved for N/C and they caught "rodent intrusion" in my cabin air filter before it became a nightmare, all while doing the service.

I have a wrench, which cost $1.  I use it every time I change the oil.  It saves me $100, which I don't pay, because I change the oil myself.

Because my dealership decided that I should get a free oil change.  To make up for the inconvenience of having to bring my car in for the recall action.  Either I'm such a great customer, or that is how they build customer loyalty.  I keep bringing my cars to that dealership for service.  I keep buying cars from them.  "Free Oil Change" is a marketing gimmick.

I think my dealership calls it the same thing.

Edit: Thought mine should have been included, but I now see it's only for 2.5L engines.

This recall was recently expanded to include all TC models and engines. My 1.6L now shows the recall is active. But I had already purchased the parts and installed them.

I have a 2014 Transit Connect XLT LWB 2.5L4 and the shifter came off. I was lucky to be home in the carport! So I went to Ford and they wanted to effect the repair but couldn't schedule it for 2 weeks, so I asked for the parts that pertained to the recall repair, but they wanted me to buy them, so I forked over abour 4 bucks for the two pieces of plastic that had both disappeared without a trace. One was orange (the underside piece that clips onto the schifter knob, inserted from below with a pressure fit) and the other a white plastic cap which slides on from the end and clips on both sides of the cable head into rectanglar slots. Since I had already removed the air intake to the carburator, the air cleaner assembly and the coolant tubing support, I had enough room to press DG9Z7K340A in with my fingerstrength and then to slide DG9Z7S004A on as the cap.
