  1. With the current price of used trucks you will get the truck repaired , just a huge pain in the ass. Too bad You are in California. Did they get both converters? It would be much cheaper here. Keep us posted. Do you have any pictures. Are they going to put on some protection?
  2. It would not be an easy task as the rear of the engine is under the windshield cowl. The best way is to get the car up high enough to access them from underneath . You will need an Oxygen sensor socket to get them to move , use good Never-seize when you put them back.
  3. We don't have diesels here so I have limited info. Have you or your tech put a good scantool on the TC ? There should be a way to cycle the Glow plugs. Do you have a PDF of the owners manual? That might help.
  4. There are lots of wheels with bearing in those doors and a shot of oil once in a while will make a difference. If you live in a state that has snow and as a result salt and sand keep an eye on the bottom track. It is subject to rust and dirt build up.
  5. That is not the best news, I guess that it is another thing that we will have to start worrying about. The California converters are made to a higher standard and are worth more money. You have had that truck for along time do you still have the right insurance to help you cover it?
  6. If it pulls to the right then the Passenger side tire is holding line and is scrubbing. The out side of the front tires will wear more if the cornering is aggressive . If the car is sitting level and evenly loaded you should find a shop that can do an accurate toe in adjustment , one with a good scrub gauge would be the best.
  7. If your TC is a 2.5 the O2 sensors are at both ends of the Converter which is the lowest part of the exhaust manifold.
  8. Just watched a video of a water pump change on the 2.5. The person doing the change broke the water pump while removing it, too much in a hurry, the way it was removed could crack the cover if you are not careful. Where is the crack located hopefully not to near the timing cover. The core support will come out of there . How bad is the leak I might try Barr's block sealer first you might be lucky. It might be time for a different Mechanic.
  9. As an after thought if you install one of these sway controls it will enhance the safety and towing experience alot. All my trailer's have these .
  10. Was the replacement an exact match? Did you swap the engine and Trans or just the engine. There must have been more wires to disconnect then the ECM harness. I suspect there is a wire or plug that is not connected. It is most likely something in the wiring that was missed , that is what usually happens to me when I do an engine change.
  11. Lots of loads all kinds of weather any time of year . Pay attention to the hitch weight and don't drive like and Idiot . The brakes on a gen2 TC are up to the task.
  12. Once again you Eu guy's get offered all the cool stuff, like Diesel engines and adjustable head lights and grill shutters.
  13. If you only have one brand of car you are working on then Forscan or the Toyota version is the best . If you have multiple types of vehicles and friends that descend on you for help a good general purpose scan tool is needed. If you are getting one spend the extra money and get the Bluetooth version the improved ease of operation is worth it.
  14. The new engines start really well, the most important thing on really cold starts is to let the warm up be long enough to protect the plastic parts that are now every where in the engine and transmission.
  15. How did you retract the pistons? Did you turn the parking brake screws back in? Cycle the pedal several times very slowly. if you push too fast the front rear proportioning valve will prevent the fluid from . If that does not work you will have to bleed the brakes.
  16. Where I live , Northern Vermont , if the right fluid Is used ( I use the -25 Rainex Fluid) heated nozzles are not necessary. The gas powered 2.5 starts to at least -25F as long as the the battery is in good shape.
  17. Did this happen all of a sudden? Have you put a real gauge into the oil gallery ? A scan tool should give you the pressure also. if the oil light is controlled by a sensor the diaphragm could have failed and when it gets hot the light will come on.
  18. Does the TC handle differently than it use to? Did you have the noise before the shocks were replaced I would check the bushings for looseness or assembly.
  19. What year? A scan tool will give you the oil pressure . If this if this happened all of a sudden then the Oil pressure sensor could have a bad diaphragm that would get worse when the oil warms up.
  20. Disconnect the battery for 10 min and see if that resets it. After that you need a good scan tool or Forscan to check the steering.
  21. Very good thanks for the up date.
  22. From my experience Triax Multi spec fluid hold up better than either Mercon or the Valvoline.
  23. Which TC are we talking about the 6-F35 has no pan, but it does have a drain plug.
