  1. Thanks for the reply. I didn't think they would fit in there without clearing the wheel well, but now that I know what to look for I'll try some.
  2. Thanks for the reply. I do really like the caps in your photo, but I'm not sure I like them enough to order from Europe. That sounds like a big hassle. I guess I will have to look around for other large wheel covers to fit as you did. I don't think a typical small hubcap will fit these wheels.
  3. I recently lost a hubcap and am reluctant to spend the price of a new one to replace it. . I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for alternate hubcaps that might fit. I think I would prefer smaller caps that cover only the center part of the wheel. Has anyone tired these?
  4. Hi Christian: I like the camping cot idea. My idea is to keep it simple, rather than built-in cabinets and such. I tried one folding cot but the middle legs interfered with the wheel well. I guess that was not a problem with yours. Also a fair amount of gear can be stowed underneath. Do you have a number or name for the cots you are using? Thanks.
  5. I'd love that too. Pleas post if you find an answer.
  6. JC Whitney has always been great for that kind of low tech stuff. Their catalog was required reading in my high school circle!
  7. That's sorta' interesting, Hal. Thanks for posting.
  8. I can't answer your question, but I just wanted to thank you for LOWERING your headlights, rather than raising them to level with oncoming driver's eyes, as many shade tree mechanics seem want to do.
  9. I camp in my T.C. but without a pop-up. I am afraid the corrugations on the roof would make any after market installation a problem. I'd like to put a vent up there. I also looked at old VW buses. They are just so simple and look like a lot of fun. You are right though about the prices being beyond belief. They are all very well used also and most I've seen suffer extensive rust in the sub-frame area.
  10. I think that that amount of coolant would be very obvious in the exhaust or oil. Often coolant leaks only when the engine is running. It might also evaporate when the engine becomes warm. For these reasons you may not see it on the garage floor. I'm hoping that it is something cheap and easy to repair, and I have a hunch it is. Good luck.
  11. Looks good! I like the color combination.
  12. I can't speak to California, but mine is registered as a station wagon. I do have the backseat so maybe that is why. Or more likely, it is arbitrary for in-between vehicles like ours. If that is the case, maybe you can have it changed. I'd try writing my state legislator.
  13. One option would be to flip the switch when you do want them, and leave them off when you don't. Oh wait, that's the stock set-up! Well the price is right, anyway.
  14. I don't really have a problem with the TC seating, but I have often wondered why most car companies insist on floor mounted shifters, especially for front drive automatics. A column shifter and bench seat in many cars could provide an extra passenger space.
  15. Excellent tip and thank you very much for sharing. I'm going to make a note for my manual.
  16. The bigger Transit, as opposed to the Connect, has been popular in Europe for some years. I guess maybe they plan on selling them here now too.
  17. You don't even have to get underneath the van to remove the back seat. Its a bit heavy but otherwise very easy to take out. I do it all the time.
  18. Never had that problem with the TC, but once did on a motorcycle. A nice smear of good old grease fixed it for a month at a time, but a few strokes with sandpaper did a more permanent job. It didn't take much sanding, but wipe it off well afterwards, before using. Probably best not to have flakes of plastic i the tank.

    Fuel mileage

I'm sure you already know all the economy driving tips, so I won't repeat them. But I do think that speed, and acceleration (especially while climbing hills) are even more important factors with this vehicle than most others. My mileage has improved a lot since I've trained myself to keep my foot out of the gas pedal. I wish I had an easier answer for you, but I don't. Good luck!

Ain't it always that way!! The last car I bought with a genuine, pick and choose style, options list was in 1973. Now you must buy the heated cup holders to get the overdrive, but that only comes without the spare tire. Makes no sense what-so-ever. Anyhow, I'm glad you are happy with your choice. Let me know when you figure out how to put Leslie spin on the radio speakers.

Well I hope you do get a TC, and nice talking to you.

I wouldn't even want to think about loading a Hammond by myself. I once did load just an M-3 in my old minivan without help and darn ruined myself. I used to help a local tech on deliveries and we once delivered an X-77, up three flights of narrow stairs, while double parked on Broadway in NYC!! Yikes, a nightmare. Actually my Bee does need several minor repairs at the moment. Don't they always? By the way, I wasn't aware you Nashville cats liked soul organ! More of a Memphis thing, isn't it?

Welcome to a fellow Hammonista. I've never tried an organ in my Connect but I did once haul my B-3, 122, pedal board and bench in a Dodge Caravan. At least the Transit has enough headroom so you can carry in without doubling over too much.
