  1. I certainly remember those impact wrench clowns too, Mike. But today I think nearly all tire swappers do actually use torque wrenches.
  2. There is also this opening window unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Transit-Connect-Camper-van-RV-Windows-Screens-2pc-/280565166825?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4152fcb2e9#ht_528wt_667
  3. I agree with Woody, for the most part. I think it might be nice, however, to have the option to turn the system off to climb a hill (for example) and then immediately turn the safety features back on. .
  4. Nice job! I like those stripes!

    Fuel mileage

I agree with PBX. Gas mileage with the Transit seems to be particularly sensitive to highway speed. Perhaps this is due to the large frontal area. If I keep the sped under sixty I get 30 MPG or so. At 65 I get 28. At higher speeds it drops off to 26. Depending on traffic, it can be difficult to maintain lower speeds though.
  6. I have not reached 15,000 yet, but I will have bolts torqued by my mechanic when the van is up on his lift for state inspection.
  7. Oil change is a snap. Everything can be reached form under the front bumper. Tire rotation is complicated by tire pressure monitors, but not difficult. The procedure in the manual works with no problem and no special tools required. Thats all I've done so far.
  8. I'm a tall guy too. I am wondering if I can get rid of the footrest to the left of the brake pedal. That clearly is intended for shorter-legged folks, but I'm not seeing any easy way to do that.
  9. Now we’re getting somewhere! Thanks NC. What does the tool do?
  10. Well of course I read the directions for the procedure, which is why I was asking about anyone else’s experiences with it. Anyone?
  11. Has anyone personally performed a tire rotation along with the procedure for resetting the tire pressure monitoring system? If so, how did it go for you? I ask because I’m considering doing this soon.
  12. I hear ya! I’d be satisfied with partly opening rear windows.
  13. What was the impedance of the original speakers?
  14. No worries, Roland! If you had bought the Bentley, you’d probably have been disappointed in its cargo capacity. Ha!
  15. Well I use those same on-ramps, but I take a different approach. I yield to oncoming traffic.
  16. And it gets even better! Since I hit 6000 miles my gas mileage has been averaging 28 MPG. On a trip I can see up to 31, if I keep my foot out of it on the hills.
  17. Torx head wrenches are certainly not expensive. I bought a small set for much less than $10. It should be mentioned that all the bolts are accessed from the passenger compartment with no need to crawl under the van.
  18. That’s a nice job on the camper, but the bed looks pretty cozy for two people. I use every bit of the entire width for two G.I. air mattresses. It’d be better to just skip the cabinets, in my opinion.
  19. I had a similar problem, but didn’t answer because I couldn’t quite remember exactly how I solved it. My TC has the cheaper radio without the CD player. The owner’s manual is incorrect about procedures to set the clock with this radio. In fact, you do not use the radio at all to set the clock in this case. It is all done with the right hand button just below the digital read-out on the instrument panel. I just messed around with this button until the time began to change. I’m sorry I do not recall the precise manipulation, I used.
  20. Since no one else seems to be answering you, I will. I think you are correct about the radio. I believe the owner’s manual is incorrect in stating that it has tone control, and also about setting the clock with this particular radio. Your idea about buying a take out is a good one. I’d like to do that as well but there don’t seem to be any sellers at the moment. In the meantime you may want to do what I have. I purchased a cheap ($12) transmitter to play MP3s on the FM radio. Since there is an equalizer in my MP3 player, the sound is considerably better that way. These transmitters are available at Wal-Mart and auto supply stores.
  21. Sorry I didn't answer this sooner. My XL wagon was $20,000 before taxes and license fees. No options, no trade. That seems about right to me.
  22. That’s what I was afraid of., but thanks for the confirmation. It’s a shame though to waste that nice tire. It will probably never be used if it remains the spare position. Frankly, I’d prefer not to have a TPMS system on my car. For 40 years a tire gauge has worked just fine for me, without any such drawback.
  23. Hi Tony: My TC is really too new to have any experience with the issues you mention. I am interested in your plans for a camper, however. I've camped in mine only twice. What do you have in mind?
