I agree about the wiring. I've seen guys using 1/0 for that application. 12 AWG is fine for hooking up a 15 amp outlet in your house, or installing a patio fixture. In the old days, I liked it for off-road lighting for halogen lamps at 100 watts. I also ran 12 gauge for installing electric fan sets. But I wouldn't go with less than 4 gauge for an auxiliary battery.

But if you tap into the license plate light wiring, those lights you install on the interior will be on whenever you drive at night. Think about tapping into the interior lamps instead.

Sounds like all that you need will be a couple of small LEDs. I like the ones on the head of a hollow bolt.

I hate things like this. They build in programming features that are kept secret. So much of a secret, in fact, that not even dealership techs know it all.
