Engine compartment battery access

Although I haven't actually done it, I was looking at this on my 2015 TC Wagon right after I bought it about 6 weeks ago. It looks like you need to pull the air cleaner box first, then disconnect the battery positive cable and remove the front section of the battery box that has the high current junction box attached, and that should let the battery slide out the front. But that was just my plan from looking at it in case I ever find the need to do it, I'm no mechanic and haven't actually tried my plan so I could be all wet.

I didn't try it, but I'm 98% sure you can't get a Gen 2 TC battery out of there without removing the air cleaner top and the air cleaner bottom housing too, so you can add another 10 or 15 minutes to his video presentation.  Also, good luck with removing the negative battery cable first (as you should always do) because you can't slide the battery far enough forward to even SEE the negative terminal until after you have first removed the positive terminal

Anyway, be extremely careful with your 10mm tool taking the positive terminal off because if the tool comes in contact with any metal, you're gonna get a real BIG spark!

I just came across this video that shows the entire process

It's for a Focus, but the Transit Connect is based on the Focus and appears identical.

Lol, I like how he says something to the effect of "Ford was generous enough to include a connection to the negative terminal outside the battery compartment"

I had no idea this existed, I've gotten really good at snaking my hand under that rear battery cover ?

The entire air intake has to be removed.  Not hard.  Just more work.  Disconnect everything attached to the intake hose.  Remove the cover.  Remove the filter.  Have a new filter handy.  Remove the base of the air box.

Disconnect the ground wire at the ground post.  It's a 13mm.

Disconnect the positive terminal.  Remove the battery hold down securement device.  10mm wrench.

No easy short cut to lifting up and disengaging the panel in front of the battery.

Slide out the battery, with the ground wire attached.  No point in trying to reach into that space with a wrench.

The OEM battery was BXT-96R.  My VIN recommended replacement is BXT-40R.

The local auto parts store shows different options.  Although the battery which came in the van was not an option.

Then put it all back together.
