Broken rear tail light (should I buy aftermarket)

I have a broken rear tail light assembly on my 2016 TC.  Has anyone replaced with an aftermarket assembly?  If so did it fit, work, different color of red, etc...?  From what I am finding they are half the price.

I have used aftermarket parts like that with mixed results.  You are taking a gamble on fitment with anything, any part, which isn't OEM.  Sometimes, aftermarket lights leak and you get condensation inside of the lens.  The tail lights, front bumper, and front grille on the pickup are all aftermarket, and I don't have any problems. You could try used auto parts from a junkyard, or even online.  If you buy aftermarket, just be sure that the seller has a good return policy.  If it doesn't fit, return it.  If you install it & it fits, go through a car wash.  If it leaks, return it.

Had to replace a taillight on one of my VW Rabbits, bought one on eBay.  It worked just fine.  Looked at the aftermarket ones and wound up going the eBay route.  The used one came with the bulb carrier, if you have a cracked or broken housing the moisture often will cause the bulb contacts to corrode.  Fix sooner rather than later - I love to procrastinate.
