  1. Mount all the LED you want. You could even mount a warning light bar, like on a police car, tow truck, or fire engine. I've mounted rear warning flashers and wig-wag lights into most of my vehicles. No ticket unless you actually turn it all on, and you're on a public roadway. Just remember that all of those off-road use only items, should only be used off of public roads.
  2. That keeps you under 8'? My truck sits at or about 7'. I can't get into most garages and car washes. I guess you're never driving through a commercial car wash with that antenna.
  3. I hate when you buy a car, expect everything to be right, then find something like that after driving off the lot. I've never used the rear wiper on any car. Yet, I know people who insist that the rear wiper should be on every car.
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumper_(car) International safety regulations, originally devised as European standards under the auspices of the United Nations, have now been adopted by most countries outside North America. These specify that a car's safety systems must still function normally after a straight-on pendulum or moving-barrier impact of 4 km/h (2.5 mph) to the front and the rear, and to the front and rear corners of 2.5 km/h (1.6 mph) at 45.5 cm (18 in) above the ground with the vehicle loaded or unloaded.[24][29] 2.5 MPH? You could jog into the car, and damage it.
  5. You will be amazed at which myths are believed to be truth. Especially with cars. That's why MythBusters has done so many episodes with cars.
  6. You could also just buy wheels from Tire Rack, or some other online site. They will sell you the correct wheels for your vehicle. Or at least use the website to figure out which specs you need. Front and Rear Size: 17X7 Offset: 44mm Backspacing: 5.708" Bolt Pattern: 5-108 Rec. Tire Size: 215/50-17
  7. For a lot of these things, Credit Unions are the way to go. That is, if you can obtain membership in a Credit Union. I belong to The San Francisco Credit Union, which apparently accepts everybody. But each dealership has a finance department. And some of those finance guys are more aggressive and effective when sourcing out lending. And if you can get it, the manufacturer's 0% incentive is always the best. I've found from personal buying experience, that you're in the best position to negotiate pricing when you have cash in hand. My real focus has always been final cost. In a cash sale, it's the out the door price. With financing, it's total cost after all payments. Rarely will you save money by financing. It can be done, but it's rare.
  8. That sounds about right. Nothing else you can do except to correct the seal. It's still under warranty, let the dealer address it. It is unusual. I've only seen that after a windshield replacement where the installation tech made a mistake. I've never seen that with an OEM windshield.
  9. While you're at it, consider installing a car phone.
  10. basis for comparison, but way back when my ancestors only had two sticks for utensils, I installed 3200 lumen LED on the pickup truck. The lamp size is H13. The lamp had 2 LED: 1 low beam, 1 high beam, each putting out 1600 lumen. At the time, it was crazy expensive......about 3-4 times what they cost today. And compared to today's technology, these are way underpowered. Just remember that I am only driving around with 1600 lumen per lamp.
  11. Mine is doing double duty. Transporting old people in wheel chairs. And as a 70's "shaggin' wagon".
  12. A lot of youtube videos on camper conversions too. They might give you some ideas.
  13. That wouldn't really work. Once you open the door to load, your light would be pointing away from the vehicle, to the left hand side,. So if you're parked curbside, you would have a light pointed at passing cars.
  14. On one of my old Jeeps, I mounted a rear facing fog lamp as a work/loading light. You would be amazed at how dark it gets out in the woods, without street lights. Funny how when you have trucks and Jeeps, you always seem to have extra parts, like fog lights, sitting around. Right now, I'm looking at this weird projection spot beam light that uses an MR16 lamp. Okay, my brother in law gave it to me because he couldn't use it. But who would engineer and market an automotive light using a track light bulb that is typically used to illuminate mannequins in retail stores? He said something about putting it on my Harley, or using it on the Honda, and I just laughed. But he left it on my workbench, so it's mine. Another thing that will get tossed into the spare parts bin.
  15. Show the ghetto some respect. Hoodlums might be too busy doubled over in laughter, to rip one off. It's sad how lower social economic neighborhoods are viewed and serviced. I've never seen an inner city Starbucks. All the KFC locations have bulletproof glass. There are no banks, only check cashing stores and liquor stores who will also cash a check. Never any kind of high end clothing or dining. No fresh produce. No butcher. No fish monger. No large grocery stores. You can't even get a fresh loaf of bread. That corner liquor store is all that you have. Nobody will attempt to deliver any kind of food. And on some blocks, ambulances won't go without a police escort. I have literally seen ambulances waiting a quarter mile away, until a police car shows up to drive in with them. And not even the cops will come alone. Always in pairs. Never solo. Is it racial profiling? No. It's just profiling poor people. I see this in poor communities regardless of the racial demographic.
  16. A lot of people see the Kelvin rating, and mistake it for light intensity. Kelvin is a color range. A higher Kelin does not make the lamp brighter. In the old days, people looked for candlepower. Now, it's lumen. But I guess all those numbers are confusing, so get the box with the highest numbers. That Citizen's Band radio and antenna sounds interesting. Are you planning on the roofline and shelf space behind the front windshield?
