Adding L-Track in Cargo Van
windguy replied to jeff_beast's topic in Transit Connect Member Custom Builds
Sorry, it's been something like five years since I removed the mat. Don't recall much about it at this point. As I said before, it would be best to search this forum to find other bikers that have installed racking inside the cargo area. There has been a few as I recall. I did a quick web search on L-Track and found the link below. In my mind, I can see installing the L-Track on some type of bracket or wood surface rather than directly to the deck. This is what these folks did with their install so it has some merit to scope out. Good luck! https://radvanadventures.com/2017/01/28/diy-campervan-project-interior-bike-storage-using-l-track/ -
Adding L-Track in Cargo Van
windguy replied to jeff_beast's topic in Transit Connect Member Custom Builds
@jeff_beast - Good that you are asking these questions. Plenty of forumites over the years have added different bike mounting solutions. Best to search (upper right corner of page) for what they have done and PM them for more info rather than taking advice from someone that hasn't even come close to doing so but pretends to be an expert on all subject matter. The three pictures posted above are not this posters. The first two are from my van modifications. The third I'm sure if from another forumite. I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming the cargo area in my 2015 and your 2022 are the same, even though there were some body style changes made to the Gen 2 around 2019. Kind of like a Gen2-2.0. I removed the entire cargo mat. The surface on mine was tacky, which drove me crazy. I replaced it with a sheet of 5/8-3/4" plywood and then carpeted that surface. It's worked out nicely for my use but I do put a tarp on top to capture salt water and sand from beach use. It's easy to remove the tarp and shake off the sand. I can see how having a waterproof liner for bikes would be useful. The mat has a foam liner glued to the bottom that fills the voids in the deck of the cargo area. I separated the foam sheet from the vinyl mat and put the foam sheet back. Provides insulation and noise abatement. I also added two layers of sound proofing to the entire deck (kilmat type stuff). Walls, door and ceiling areas too. As I recall, the mat does cut easily with a regular utility knife with a new blade, obviously. Below are pics of what the bare deck looks like. There are existing threaded holes but those are up front for the 2nd row seats that Ford had installed for import purposes only. Lastly, I would highly recommend creating a storage space in the passenger foot well area behind the front seats. Very useful for cargo vans. to make use of this space. -
CARGO LIGHT REMOVAL
windguy replied to windguy's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lights, Mirrors, Window Tint & Wipers
@TC2014 - I found the LED light I had removed and see two part numbers, one on the bezel and one on the light fixture, shown below. The links will get you started and you can hone in on where best to source it. Ebay has lots of options if you do a deep dive. Also attached some pics if that helps. Good luck! BEZEL - DT11-13733-ABW https://www.autopartsprime.com/ford/frame-interior-lamp/oe-dt1z13733ab LED LAMP FIXTURE - BK2V-13776-AB (that might be a mfg part number. Ford's p/n might be similar with some letter changes) https://knobtowncycle.com/product/ford-motor-co-transit-interior-dome-led-light-bk2v-13776-ab/ https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-2015-2020-Ford-Transit-LED-Interior-Dome-Light-Cargo-Area-BK2V-13776-AB-/114967513859?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c4#viTabs_0 -
2013 cargo partition on 2015 van

Logic tell me no way. Gen 1 and 2 vans are too different so it's not a bolt-on fit. -
CARGO LIGHT REMOVAL
windguy replied to windguy's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lights, Mirrors, Window Tint & Wipers
@TC2014 - Sorry, don't have the part number handy of the LED cargo light, but will see if I can find the part stored in the garage. I must say the removal of that stock light and the addition of three LED bars on the ceiling was a really nice upgrade. I hated having the old light staying on for something like 10 minutes after a door was open. The position of the light is also bad being on one side, which ended up being blocked by a hanging rack I added to the ceiling. Highly recommend adding something like this rather than the stock light. -
@Orchardhomebuilders See the thread link below regarding issues I had with the parking sensors on my 2015 Gen 2. My backup camera worked just fine. The parking sensor (front and rear) system was disabled because the rear speaker was bad. Hope it helps you. Good luck!

You found it, good job, thanks. Looks a lot like the Honda Acty Kei Van. I like it. https://www.importavehicle.info/2018/06/1992-honda-acty-kei-van-for-sale-in.html

Old thread, but right topic for my question. Saw the van pictured below on a credit card home page splash. Funky looking van. Looks like an egg. What is that thing?

Window Tint
windguy replied to Thelegend's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lights, Mirrors, Window Tint & Wipers
Looks like we had yet another meltdown overnight. I thought I smelled burnt toast when I woke up but we don't even own a toaster. Confused! Instead of wiping out every post with "thread deleted" we now have "Bunch of gay shits and giggles". Oh, the humanity! Enjoy the brief moment of calm and peace but stay tuned for the next reincarnation. Not a matter of if, but when. Lucky us! -
@Kitevan - looks nice. Thanks for sharing that. I don't recall anyone else adding something like that. Will be curious to see how it works out over time.

@chip - very nice. Thanks for sharing. You do realize you're now a "Camper Van Conversion Idiots" member in good standing. A badge of honor. -
What year van, how many miles? Are you outside your warranty coverage?

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new TC. I agree with Don, confirm the diagnosis first. My van's radio faceplate is the same as the pic below from the manual, which shows a phone option, but I don't have sync so it's inoperable. Are you sure your van radio has sync? Not sure what audio system comes with the Titanium trim. Is sync included or is it an option?

@KiteVan - welcome to the forum and congrats on your new TC. You're going to have fun with it. I have a 2015 TC Cargo so can't address your question since we have a different engine and trans, but no issues with uphill power with my van. Perhaps someone with a 2020 or newer model can provide a meaningful post to help you. You could also bring your van to a dealer to diagnose as part of your warranty coverage (bumper to bumper or drivetrain) Good luck!

You are correct, but limited to 36,000 miles within those three years. OP has just under 40,000. How much under 40,000? Still worthwhile talking to a service adviser at the dealership to see if there is any wiggle room on the mileage part.

Four T50 Torx tie-downs or six?
windguy replied to robraeo's topic in Transit Connect Member Custom Builds
Pics attached are from my 2015 Cargo. No tie-downs in the rear. Four total: two in the middle and two in the front. I have a sheet of 1/2 or 5/8" plywood covering the entire deck and it's bolted down in the middle, only because I had holes punched through the plywood and carpet for a temp seat bracket. It's not really necessary to hold the plywood in place. Initially I removed the entire vinyl mat, added sound proofing, separated the white foam part from the mat and put the foam padding back to fill the grooves in the deck. Plywood on top of the foam fits nicely and adds good insulation and sound proofing. The plywood is carpeted. -
Taking the plunge--under the cargo deck

Thanks for sharing. Didn't know we had an apiarist among the ranks. That is so cool raising bees for honey. 1200 POUNDS - That's a massive amount of honey. Well done! Do you have to wear protective clothing when driving the supers around? WORK TRUCK = WORK VAN = CARGO VAN = UTILITY = TRANSIT CONNECT -
Curious, what's the motivation for wanting the SWB over the LWB? Esthetics or function? Looks like the SWB is 16" shorter in overall length and wheelbase. Easier to parallel park for sure. I see a lot of Gen 2 TC's on the road in my parts for both commercial and personal use. Very rare to see a SWB model. Sourcing a decent used one might prove difficult. Please keep us posted and good luck!

Shannon - MLB is correct. The conversion applies to Gen 2 cargo vans as well. I had evidence that my 2015 cargo was converted. As I recall there is (was) a processing facility in NJ that reworks the vans after they clear customs at the port. Sure seems wasteful but 25% if a hefty import tax. The bolted on front deck area is added (see pic below). Vans shipped to Canada have this decking welded on, not bolted, as shown by some forumites over the years. Canada doesn't have an import tax (chicken tax). My guess is that the second row seats could easily be added but I don't have concrete data to back that up. If you look at the two pics below from cargo van, you can see there are a series of holes, some threaded. You can take those pics to your local Ford dealer that has a wagon model and see where the 2nd row seat mounts are located. That might easily answer your question. My local dealer uses a wagon model for customer shuttle service so there's usually at least one wagon model to see. Remember to check out the seat belt config as well. Good luck!

Taking the plunge--under the cargo deck
windguy replied to Chip's topic in Transit Connect Member Custom Builds
That's not a very charitable comment to make and you couldn't be anymore wrong. Some TC owners actually believe their cargo van should be used for its intended purpose, to carry cargo for work, hobbies and pleasure like camping. I'm in this group. It's a utilitarian vehicle and how you customize it to fit your particular needs is both unique and practical. To some it doesn't matter how pretty it looks. It's all about function. The next owner will appreciate that it's a cargo van and can customize it to fit their own needs. The value isn't affected as long as the vehicle is mechanically sound. It's ridiculous to think otherwise. -
Sorry to hear that. How about a more conventional approach and use the TC 2.5L engine. Assuming they are easy to source from a salvage yard? Considering it's a van, the 2.5L, which is what I have in my 2015, has decent power with okay fuel economy. I personally wouldn't want to sacrifice fuel economy for a bigger engine. Wrong direction for me. I'm not a gearhead but I'm assuming a higher output engine would require a matching transmission and more to handle the extra load. Mission creep. Good luck! Please keep us posted.

Don, did you have any of the symptoms listed: wind noise, water leaks or looseness in the windshield? It's interesting that the notice I got and posted above says nothing about any safety issues as mentioned in the recall notice. Curious omission. The way I read the recall (cut and pasted below), if you have any of those symptoms listed, then your windshield may be inadequately sealed and that could lead to a problem in an accident. That makes sense but it's not a perfect cause and effect hence the "may experience" wording. I'm on the fence about doing this since I don't believe I have any of those symptoms. I'll discuss with my service advisor at Ford on my next service.
