Plugging in is obviously the best solution. All you need for that is an extension cord and your in business.

Well 110 would undoubtedly get much warmer, but you would still have the problem of limited watt-hours unless you use a generator or something like that. I will use one of those jump-starter gizmos (really just an auxiliary battery). I use the same device for a fan in warm weather. I don't expect tremendous results from the 12 V blanket, but it might be enough to just help out a bit.

I get a terrible whining sound from the passenger seat at times. No wait, that was my wife!

I just bought a 12 Volt electric blanket for camping on cool evenings. Only draws four amps and auto shuts off after a short time. It certainly does not get extremely hot, but would help a bit. Inexpensive too.

Ford Gets Back in the Minivan Game

I can certainly understand why someone would prefer the newer version, but I'm glad I bought the older type while they were still available. -
Trailer hitch for a 2013 TC

Forget about the Connect. Just take that golf cart and hit the road! That would be seriously unconventional! -
Now here, you are on the right track, if by "tuned" you mean modify the spark timing. I once owned a turbo Mustang equipped with a special distributor which changed the spark timing whenever the turbo spun up in order to prevent knocking. So yes, it could be done (actually pretty easily during pre-electronic days). Today it would take a "chip" or other method to change the electronic parameters. You are also correct that tetraethyl lead was the original additive used to boost octane. This was done when high compression engines were developed. Here is a super article on the introduction of leaded gas: (Actually this entire book is fascinating history.) http://www.theautochannel.com/mania/industry.orig/history/chap7.html

I'd place more credence in what fuel engineers think than drag racers. But thats just me.
-
Sure, and though the turbo doesn't raise the actual compression ratio, it has essentially the same effect as well.
-
Opps! You guys caught me on the instant start deal. I forgot about that. Still you do get my point.
-
Johny: The purpose of high octane is to allow engines with higher compression ratios to run without knocking, If an engine does not have a high compression ratio it cannot benefit from high octane fuel. This might help to explain it: http://www.economist.com/blogs/babbage/2012/09/octane-ratings

I can't really offer any help, but wouldn't it have been nice if Ford had painted all the roofs white, regardless of body color? You can't see the top anyhow. Toyota does this on their Land Cruisers and I always thought it a great idea. Of course two colors of paint might add a small extra cost.

An ultra-simple (and lightweight) camping solution is two Coleman cots. The right type will slip in perfectly and is completely non-permanent. Search though the old posts for details.

$150 dealer licensing fees
Willie replied to 2013TransitConnect's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
Oh well then, thats altogether different. If one chooses to be waited on, he has to be willing to pay for it I suppose. Still, if they offered to do it for nothing, then thats what should've happened. -
When sitting at a red light, or stuck in a traffic jam, both a Prius and a Hummer get zero MPG. Nothing you can do about that.

$150 dealer licensing fees
Willie replied to 2013TransitConnect's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
I guess they really do care about those reviews. Interesting. As far as the fee goes, can you imagine doing dozens of them a week? I bet it gets pretty easy, after a while, and is accomplished in only a few minutes. -
Name your Transit Connect: or other vehicle

In my weirder moments, I've even considered modifying the plastic letters on the backdoor! I haven't gone that goofy yet though. -

My Miata is "Beauty", My Transconn is "The Beast". -
The 2010 owner's manual specifies "orange antifreeze" only. Has anyone added the universal, mixes with all others, type antifreeze? Its a bit of a pain to keep three different variations on hand for various cars. I'm not asking about mixing the orange with the regular old green, but with the "mixes with anything type.

One thing about the white, it will stay cooler inside on a sunny day.

interior panels for a cargo van

There have been several campers shown here. Look though the photos. -
Glad you have it sorted out. SR500?

It might be pretty easy to take the back fender off for the trip. Another thing that helps is to have a hillside or slope you can back up to. This saves pushing the bike up as steep a plank which can be a bit scary. Good luck, whichever way you go..

I have not had any reason to put my Bonneville in the back of my 2010 yet, but I am confident it will fit.One reason I bought the TC is to haul my bike to the shop if need be. It will almost certainly require removing the backseat but that is easily done. I'm thinking more of short trips of maybe ten or twenty miles, rather than hauling it to some rally six states away. Even if the back door has to be tied (almost) closed, it would not be a big deal for close destinations. There seem to be sufficient tie down spots back there as well. (By the way, the XS Yamaha is an all-time favorite of mine.)
