Hello lurker joined....2016 TC SWB

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Adam I have owned my Van for over 5 years and love it!! I raised my niece driving a cobra mustang and a fox box body mustang convertible with child seats in them. Now she is 22 and lives at college and NOW I buy a mini van!! Kinda backwards I know....long story short I hurt my leg pretty bad and there is no way i could get in and out of the mustang so on the the way home from the hospital, I stopped and bought the transit connect.....still have the mustang's for weekend fun.

Anyway it's a short wheel base 2.5....I have driven up north from Florida a few times with dogs and it was great....only thing I've added is a Curt trailer hitch, a few LED bulbs....the upper taillights "titanium" reflectors. I have purchased a remote start kit in December but I have yet to install it, and I also plan to install my subwoofers and Amp but just keep the stock radio head unit.

Well, that's about it...I was an auto mechanic for 15 years of my life then I stayed in the business but moved to an office and became a keyboard jockey in marketing auto parts.....but I kept my tools and still use them, but just for my projects.

I need some help, Please. I have a 2016 ford transit connect XLT. The windshield wiper just stopped working. I have 12 volts neg and positive at the wiper motors, but not getting the signal for them to run. Where does the signal come from.  Does any one have the wiring diagram and any ideal where to go next. I have checked both motors the have power but will not work. I have swapped the motors for side to side and still no wipers. how much voltage is on the signal wire, So I can test the motors or is there a good way to test the motors. I have changed the switch on the steering column and the wiper still will not work. Everything on the switch works but the front wipers.  Any help would be appreciated.

The wipers are controlled by the body control module (BCM). I'll post the wiring diagram later. Even with the diagram, your should invest in a scan tool. Cheapest solution is lto oad Forscan Lite (about $10) on your phone and buy an OBDLINK MX dongle (approx$70). This will allow you to read the DTCs. Everything on these vehicles are controlled by computer modules and the DTCs will usually identify the source of the problem.

Here is the wiring diagram and portion of the troubleshooting section from the service manual. As you can see it is impossible to troubleshoot without knowing the DTCs.

Do you have any more paperwork on the wipers I have no code wiper will not work. I have change the driver side wiper motor and the switch hoping I don’t have to change the bCM but want to make sure that it be for I change it

How did you check for codes? You need a proper diagnostic scan tool, not an OBDII code reader you can borrow from an auto parts store. I have attached the rest of the troubleshooting instructions from the service manual.

You may need to do some detailed troubleshooting for this problem. I would start by toggling the wiper switch and checking the PID for the switch to ensure it changes state. I would also disconnect components to verify DTCs are triggered. Some of these test may lead to the conclusion that the BCM is bad. It's possible to install a used BCM using Forscan but this requires "advanced" level Forscan knowlege and experience. If you need to go this route it's probably best visit a dealership or experienced Ford repair shop.
