LED Headlights
zalienz replied to Fifty150's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lights, Mirrors, Window Tint & Wipers
So which bulbs did you use for the high beam? Looking at the Street Cat bulbs. the 4000 lumen bulbs say H11 (H8 / H9), and the 4800 lumen bulbs just say H11. I'm liking the LED idea, and would probably go with the 4800 lumen bulbs. I also need to decide about the fog lamps, if I should go with something traditional like yellow fogs or go with the H11 LEDS. Fog where I'm at is relatively rare, and might decide to use the white LEDs to get more light out front. Pretty cool ideas, though, thanks for sharing. -

Ok, I'll bite. Looks interesting. I'm up for a headlight upgrade, still on the fence, upgraded PIAA halogens, HID, LED, etc... so do you like the LED's? -
Yep, what mrtn said

2800 Mile Report
zalienz replied to tcconvert's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
I have about 2600 miles on my 2017 Cargo Van. I can say for the most part, it's been great. Sure, I have some complaints, but overall it's a pretty decent ride for the money. The plus side: It's big enough for my needs, small enough to fit in many places, fuel economy is pretty good (I average about 23mpg on regular, 25mpg on super, unloaded) handles better than I expected with the quick steering, brakes are very capable. New Sync 3 with Android Auto is freaking great. it's pretty comfortable so far. It was a good decision, and a long time coming. I spent 9 months researching and comparing other manufacturers. IMHO, it was the best of the small vans. Negative sides, just a few bitches, I should have ordered the auto headlights, as mine has the DRL's and driving at night leads you to believe your taillights are on..... grrr... Front driver side leg room leaves a lot to be desired, and I'm short... left leg just doesn't seem to have enough room.. Bluetooth is a bit dodgy at times, but figured out it's my phone and not the van, Seats are just OK for comfort, but I have a Recaro driver seat ready to be adapted in.... time and money are the constraints there.... again, not the van's fault. I'm going to upgrade the audio system with rear speakers, amp & a sub, possibly add a aux AGM battery under the rear floor extension for camping, etc..... Insulation and some sort of paneling for the rear, still undecided, sorry no disco ball Fifty150, I'm a rocker...lol, maybe a Dream Theater theme... seriously probably more of a Ford Cobra theme... lol Still, having fun. Thanks for listening. Peace -
I'm not a fanboy of Mobil 1. The great oil debate could go on for decades, today's oils are so good, unless you're in a very high demand situation (like racing) it will be very difficult to prove a difference in oil performance from one brand to another. As long as you change it regularly and don't run out, it is very unlikely to see an oil related engine failure. Since my vehicle is new, I wanted to get it started off on synthetic from early on. I chose Mobil 1 for it's reputation and availability. Amsoil, Redline and Royal Purple are excellent candidates, but they are a little more challenging to find, and I don't need the hassle. I bought my oil filter at the local AutoZone, for 4 bucks. They also had Mobil 1, but the price seemed high and I was on my way to Costco right after and I knew they stocked it. 6 quarts at Costco was $10 cheaper than at AutoZone. I don't particularly care for Wal-Mart; I didn't check their prices. That's a whole different topic though.

There is most likely damage to the ABS sensor and/or the ring on the hub or bearing. Traction control uses the sensor input to make it's decisions. I agree you'll need a wheel, tire, general inspection & alignment in addition to the ABS stuff.

I change the oil & filter myself. I use Mobil1 5W/20 synthetic and Motorcraft filters. Costco has the best price on Mobil 1. I'll change it twice a year or every 7500 miles, whichever comes first.

Thank you mrtn. I found a post in another forum that details this out quite nicely. This is a long post, but scroll down a bit to "Setting Up Playlists". It's a bit geeky, but it worked. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=962767

No they didn't. They did say TC's are rarely modified there, so they were impressed with the results. I'm sure you already know in Cali it's almost impossible to legally modify any post 1975 vehicle. :-( But, I'm pretty happy with this little scoot. Sure, we could always use more power.... 2.0 EcoBoost would be a welcome addition, and quite the hauler.

Routing heavy guage wire from battery to cargo area.

Agreed Beta Don. Wow, I'm looking back at the original post.... it was over 4 years ago, time for a new thread. -
Routing heavy guage wire from battery to cargo area.

If I decide to do this I will probably go with something like this: http://lifelinebatteries.com/products/rv-batteries/ I will need to determine load to decide on how large of a battery based on amp/hours. These AGM's are really heavy and not cheap. A battery box would be ideal. I'm still in the planning stage. Also still waiting for the 2017 wiring diagram to be published, can't really get too excited until I have the correct information. -

Lots of good info in this thread. I've been thinking about adding a aux AGM battery to the rear of my cargo van as well. Follow that link OneBulletDan added, there is a ton of really good information there, can't go wrong. Use the voltage sensing isolator. Make sure to fuse both battery positive wires. I wouldn't think of using anything smaller than 4 gauge wire for that application. I would also run the negative wire all the way back to the cranking battery rather than a chassis ground. -
I went just through a very similar experience. In the end I decided to get what I wanted, and special ordered mine in black. It took 4 months, but I'm very happy I did it my way. Sync 3, tow package, etc, yea got it too. You need to make the decision to wait or not. For sure, you will get a better deal haggling over what is already on the dealer lot. Special ordered - they got ya because they already know you are in love with it, you will pay more. Balance your $$$$ with overall happiness. Choose lowest $$$$ - get the gray. Overall happiness, get the Red.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)

Hello, So I just purchased a 2017 Transit Connect Cargo Van with Sync 3 Nav. I formatted a (FAT32) USB 32GB memory stick with about 3600 mp3 audio files. I plugged it into the USB port and it plays just fine. I also synced my Windows Media Player playlists (.wpl) to the USB stick in the music folder. The system does not recognize the playlists. I then created a folder on the USB drive called "Playlists" and put all of my playlists in that folder instead and Sync 3 still does not recognize them. The owners manual doesn't say much about playlists. Anyone out there know why? Should I create playlists in another format to be recognized? Which format? Any help is welcomed. Thank you.

I needed space to haul stuff, so I was caught in the decision to buy a Wagon and strip it down, or a Cargo Van and fix it up. I decided to go with the cargo van. But as cargo vans are designed around commercial use, I decided to special order one the way I wanted it as no dealer carried it on the lot. 95% of cargo vans are white, I wanted black. I also wanted other options that most cargo vans don't come with, like Sync 3 Nav, aluminum wheels, glass in the rear and the sliding doors, tow package, larger mirrors, DRL's, and such. So I "optioned up" the cargo van. I'm working on the rear interior with insulation and paneling, still in the design phase. I also want to add to the audio system, tint the front windows, and other stuff. This van is replacing a 29 year old Toyota truck with 300k miles on it. Just having airbags, Bluetooth and a 4 star safety rating is a huge upgrade. Thanks for listening.

No, I didn't, mine's a optioned up cargo van, not a wagon. Roof glass only comes with the wagon.

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
zalienz replied to 103west43rd's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lights, Mirrors, Window Tint & Wipers
That sounds right, Don. I wouldn't be surprised if the BCM had to re-configured as well. Many manufacturers now use an integral rain / light sensor mounted on the windshield instead of a separate solar sensor for the lights. My vehicle does have rain sensing wipers, so it's possible the light sensor is there with it. Additionally in California there is a recent law that says if your wipers are on, you must also turn the headlights on, so the manufacturers are slowly catching up with that and turning on the headlights when the wipers are activated. If Ford does that , it probably only happens if you have the auto headlights. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on a wiring diagram, they are not out yet for the 2017, and mine will be different as I have Sync 3 Nav. -

I just received my special ordered 2017 Transit Connect LWB van. So far, loving it. I added the DRL's to the build for $40. My mistake, and Ford's as well, in my opinion, was not to add the auto headlight option. As stated, the DRL's are used on the low beams at a reduced intensity. What happens at night, is with the DRL's the low beams are on, and the dash lights are on and it makes me believe the headlights (with taillights) are on when they are not. In the first week, I have driven around at night 3 times thinking this and the taillights are not on. My van is black, in the dark with no taillights, seriously a safety issue and a ticket waiting to happen. Ideally I think Ford should couple the DRL's and auto headlights together. Thank you Don for posting the wiring diagram of the headlights, it was just what I was looking for except it leaves out the headlight switch. I'm trying to figure out if I could add the auto headlight function if it's as simple as a new switch, or not.
