Yakima doesn't make an adapter to mount their roof rack on a TC yet. Frankly, the factory rails are not rated to be strong enough to carry more than one bicycle. 50 pounds is their max. So unless you have a higher end racing bike, one is the max, because that weight rating includes the rack and rails and bike holders. I was waiting to see who was going to be first, Thule or Yakima. Thule was first, so I went with them. The Podium foot and 3032 adapter fit well, and you are ready to mount the 52 inch square rails and bike carriers of your choice. Don't use the front holes. I used the second and fourth.

Andrew, you are fine to feel that way. However, just today, I saw a vehicle (Ford Explorer, no less) with an obviously low tire driving by as I was stopped at a light. It was so low, my wife even said something out loud. So, after Ford had the problem with the under inflated tires on the Explorer failing, you really think Ford will delete the TPS? Soon, every car will have to have back up cameras, too.

You can mount an OPTIMA battery sideways if that would fit under the floor better and allow access.

Thule 3032 Foot Pack and 2015 Transit Wagon Do Not Work
bikinchris replied to davidschap's topic in 2015 Ford Transit Connect
The first thing is that Thule says NOT to use the front holes in the roof. You know, the ones right above the air bag. Second, putting shards of metal inside the roof with a drill is not a good idea. Third, I used that Thule 3032 foot on my Van, but it doesn't have a headliner. SO I have no idea if getting a nut into the 2nd, 3rd or 4th holes would be easy. I know it was pretty easy on my van. -
He should place an ad where he offers to trade the factory rack for a good ladder rack in trade. Those ladder racks are not all that much money and the factory roof rack is way too much money.

I have posted about finding a good aftermarket roof rack from Thule: http://fordtransitconnectfroum.com/topic/4121-aftermarket-roof-rack-solved/

Continued fill-ups and even an attempt to overfill the gas in an attempt to make the gas smell come back confirm that my problem has been solved completely.

I finally had a chance to mount my Thule roof rack on my 2014 Transit Connect. The installation wasn't too bad. I had to remove the foam blocks above the doors to gat access to the plugs that cover the holes used to bolt the feet down. Holding the flat washer and reaching in to start the nut would be super hard, but once you use the silicone like the describe to seal the hole from water, you are just fine because the silicone that comes through with the nut will keep the washer stuck to the inside of the roof! The parts needed are the square rails from Thule in the length you want. 50 inch works fine for the TC. The 460 Podium feet, and the 3032 kit. Thule also suggests that you can use two, three or four rails and get extra strength by doing so. There are four holes available and a fifth set if you count the front ones right above the driver. Thule also says not to use the first set of holes that are in the front. I was tempted to use those, but that would have involved removing the head liner and air bags in the van to gain access to those holes. I decided not to spend a whole day doing the job.

my new grand tourneo connect
bikinchris replied to Andrew James's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
Congrats. I like how your Tourneo Connect and my Transit Connect look the same from outside except for color. -
The first thing you need know is that the factory rack is not rated for heavy loads. You can sell that rack for a decent price since new roof racks are a whole lot of money. There are a lot of companies who make good heavy duty roof racks, capable of carrying ten times what the factory rack is rated at.

Roof attachment points on 2014 Transit Connect
bikinchris replied to hdrider's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
Thule now lists KIT3032 that fits the 2014-25 Transit connect and Mercedes Sprinter. It is used with the 460 feet. It fits into the stock holes on the roof. The instructions state not to use the first holes in front. I have a set on order and will post when I get them. I have a set of square bars already that are about 35 years old. -
Filled it up today again and no fuel smell. It actually is making better mileage also!

Roof attachment points on 2014 Transit Connect

Bob, your solution is the best one for me. Did they drill holes to mount the podium feet? -
Disable rear automatic locks....Please
bikinchris replied to jlfanch3's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
Eric, you can unplug those door switches if you want. A good alarm system is your best bet here. Crooks don't care if you have the rear locks. A determined criminal will get in. -
If and or when you bring in your Transit for this recall, ask them to get touchup paint. They will scratch the sliding door above and below the panel.

Update: The fuel filler may not have been the cause of the light. They found that the company that put in the racks drilled a hole into the tank. SOOO, after plugging the hole and getting the new filler neck, I filled up the tank today and made sure I topped it off. No smell of fuel inside. Awesome.

2014 TC, where to mount cell phone/gps?
bikinchris replied to mmontminy's topic in Accessories and Modifications
I refuse to look at my phone while I drive. I have hands off to answer, but I won't dial while I am driving, so mine goes into my...pocket. -
Cool, but it doesn't work on my van model.

Heavy fuel smell in van upon fill up
bikinchris replied to Bret1197's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
I had a check engine light come on my van. On checking the fault signal the dealer says the fuel filler is causing the fault and they will install a new one. They said they thought that might be the cause of the fuel smell. I will keep you posted. -
Powerpoint recall
bikinchris replied to bikinchris's topic in Recalls & Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)
Ford has agreed to pay to remove and install my tool box when they install the power point plug. -
I got a letter from Ford today and the proximity alarm that I paid for is going to be installed in my truck.
-
My check engine light came on and my dealer says it is a fault of the fuel filler. I asked if that is related to the smell I get after fill up and they said "probably" so cross your fingers and lets hope a new filler will stop the smell!

Powerpoint recall
bikinchris replied to bikinchris's topic in Recalls & Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)
On the Van, there was also a recall on the door panels. The windows on the van have a panel covering them and Ford says the glue is not right. I have decals with my company logo on the panels. If they damage my decals, I will be very ticked off.
