Information on ordering a '23?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know when the '23's can be ordered?  With the change to MX and the C2 chassis I'm sure there will be a few hiccups.  Since our local Ford dealer typically isn't very knowledgeable about TC's I thought I'd check here. Thanks for all feedback.

I'm in the US, I just ordered a 2023 XLT wagon today. 2023 is the end of the model line in the US. I see the van/commercial version of these all over, but apparently 80% of the small van market is not enough to continue on?

Salesperson warned me that wait times could be extensive, up to and over a year. They recommended a full size Transit as an alternative vehicle, available in a more reasonable timeline.

I've driven and liked the large Transits, but the expense and increased size is not really what I'm looking for.

It's hard to understand.  I'm sure that there's a bigger picture.  All of these decisions are based on money.

There was a very short rumor that a US version of the next generation TC was going to be made in the Hermosillo, Mexico plant, where the Bronco and Maverick are currently manufactured I think?

Sounds like that plant is at capacity with those two wildly popular vehicles, which are likely higher-margin than small commercial vans. Which is really the only explanation that makes sense. So we sadly don't get the new version.

Some of the dealers have been weird about the TC all along. The dealer I ordered mine from is less than a mile from my house, does a huge commercial business in F-series, big Transits, Police Interceptors, etc but has never stocked the TC vans or wagons.

It's all about the profit margins.

A commercial fleet buyer who orders 100 vehicles at a time, like the telephone company or a government agency, will either buy a pickup truck or a Transit 150.  Higher priced vehicles with more profit margin.

Us consumers, who buy 1 vehicle at a time, will shop for whatever suits our individual needs.  You may look at other manufacturers and find something more suitable for your needs.  When the Rangers were discontinued, buyers went to Toyota for a small pickup truck.

I'm hoping, that by the time my Transit Connect needs to be replaced, there will be another option for transporting 7 passengers at a low price.  Maybe not.  Who knows what the future may hold.  As for today's buyer, there are still options.  More expensive options.

Putting this out there for anyone, since Ford's site is not updated for the 2023 models. From my order preview:

- Base XLT price is $2500 higher than 2022 (ouch!)

- Sedona Orange paint is no longer available

- Transport cost is up $300

Not a custom order, but if someone is willing to buy a van off the lot, there is inventory.  In my area, the Ford website shows 39 available.  A little sticker shock for me.  The new vans are stickered at over $10,000 more than what I paid out the door in 2016.  Makes me wonder if I should trade in my van, or sell it private party.

Update: Thanks for all your comments. Once I learned that the Mexican plant plan was canceled and that the TC as we know it was also canceled, as we know it, I jumped on the Internet searching for a '22 TC Titanium.  I found about a dozen, this side of the Rockies. Most had very inflated prices. I finally found one in Orlando that had been ordered, but canceled and I jumped on it. It was still in Spain and it was November 8th before I could get it.  All it took was a flight, two hotels and gas for 735 miles home. So now I'm HAPPY.

I live in Middle Tennessee.  Today I was in Murfreesboro and passed by Ford of Murfreesboro. I noticed an all white, Transit Connect in the New car inventory area. It obviously was more of a work van (only side windows in the doors).  Just posting if someone is looking for one, I don't know if it is a new one, maybe a '23?

Also, the Orlando dealer in Orlando that I found mine at shows a red, XLT in their online site. Let me know if you're interested, I will post their name.

It sounds like while ordering is difficult because of supply chain problems, there are plenty of unsold vans sitting on dealership lots.

I've never ordered a car.  My needs are minimal.  I have never wanted all the add-ons.  So even the most basic car will work for me.  I am more concerned with negotiating a better price.  After I buy the car, I could always add a better radio or wheels.  But it's not as simple for other people who want heated massage seats, an engine block heater, side mirror defrosters, a luxury carpet kit, backup sensors, parking assist, and the list goes on.  Nothing wrong with any of those things.  I just drive the car and live without it.  Same way I don't have a leather couch in my house.

Agree. Use a car buying service to determine an acceptable street price. It gives you more ammo to negotiate a better dealer whether you use the service or not.

I went through Costco's auto program for my 2015 Cargo XLT, ordered from the factory. It was a very easy process and there was no haggling involved. I paid a little less than dealer invoice, much less than MSRP and less than what any of the local dealers would offer me. Obviously the market is different now, but it's worth exploring if you're interested in saving some money.

Good luck!

They quoted me sticker pricing but the way it works here at least, is that they don't actually charge you anything until the vehicle is issued a VIN and options are confirmed. I'll work on that on the back end I'd assume, just going with the flow for now and I have no real commitment to the order as it is right now. The dealerships in Houston are pretty blasé about the whole ordering process because it seems like either orders don't get picked up by the factory, or orders that are not picked up by customers will sell on the lot within a few days.

Will definitely look into the costco program, thanks for the heads up!

Hopefully they can connect you with a dealer. I'm a Costco member, and submitted an inquiry for a TC. They told me there were no dealers in my area that were participating in the program for that model ?

That has been my exact experience so far haha. I'm still keeping my eye open though, I'm starting to search dealerships within ~500 miles of my location to see if they have stock just out of curiosity. So far it's been few and far between.
