Accessory power circuit?

Hi,

Wondering if anyone knows if Ford uses a constant wire color for circuits that get power when the key is in the "on" position? Basically, I'm trying to install a simple 5 wire relay to controll the front power point outlet so that it is hot only when key on. I figure to install the relay power side in line with the current feed to the power point and use "key on" power to control the relay. This way the outlet is still fed off the factory fuse. I cant seem to find a wiring diagram anywhere on line for my 2014 TC, but figure the main circuits use the same color wires across most ford platforms? At least, that is the way it was when I worked on VW's.....

Hello jallenz, it is disappointing that no 2014-2015 owners have posted they have purchased a Ford wiring diagram manual. It would help our forum members that will be working on electrical items. As per the 2010-2013 Transit Connects, there does not seem to be any standard wiring color for devices that are only "key on".

Ok thanks. I'd be interested in trying to purchase the wiring diagram if I could figure out where to get it from. I plan on having this car for a while, and it would sure be worth having in the long run. Cant seem to find out where to buy it from though.

Well, first of all, I know didley about the 2014.
Other than the taxicab option is still available.

The earlier TC's had a dearth of extra fuses, or even unused slots, to connect power to radios or other accessories/toys.

BUT, the taxicab option has two or three leads that are hot during the RUN and (unfortunately) START positions.

These leads go to a three conductor connector buried on the right side firewall.
(Presumably, if you order the overhead light, etc., the cabling plugs into that. Install the fuses and you're set.)

But those points can be used for switched power, although I don't know why you would need a relay in that case.

If/when you find a wiring manual, this would be a good place to start.
Begin tracing from the fuse block.

Tonight I used the full time hot " power point " aka lighter outlet @ the pass. side rear to supply 12v to a Hella relay to trigger a pair of 50 watt Hella flood lights mounted onto each side of the Curt class 3 hitch. The offerings for LEDs into the factory plastic tail/ brake/fog/back-up housings just were not bright enough. There is an empty hole right by the rear "power point" that was just the right dia. for a toggle switch... It's now wired so I can reach the toggle from either the pass. side sliding door or the pass. side swing door & flip on both the floods & the factory back-ups while loading or unloading.... anytime....with or with the key or engine.... If anyone wants to snag the factory back-up wire, it is pale green with an orange stripe inside the black plastic wire loom running over the fender.... Now anytime you shift into reverse these floods provide a Very clear "flight line" ......people will be Very aware of a reversing vehicle.... Tom

that sounds like a nice mod. can you take a pic of what you did (switch, lights, tap point)?

For my Gen 2, I'd be interested in adding some type of switch in the back to provide loading/unloading light. I can see the wiring going to the power outlet in the back when you open the side panel door. thanks

It sounds like jallenz had the same idea as me. 2014 TC wagon. Under the hood, fuse 17 drives the front power port.

My plan was to pull the fuse and put a relay feeding into the supply side of the fuse socket with a spade connector. I was going to drive the relay from the accessory delay circuit so it would behave like the radio, on till the doors open.

I don't have any accessory delay relay though. My manual says it's R8, but the socket is empty.

I'm looking for another method now. I figure doing it this way requires no wire cutting, and can be easily restored back to factory.

I just need a good easily tapped keyed circuit in the under hood fuse box.

Got this mood done the other day, works well. All done under the hood, completely reversible, not cutting required.

Get a micro sized tap a fuse, a 12v relay, some male/female spade connectors and a bit of wire.

In mine, there were 2 unused fuse sockets that were keyed with the ignition. I installed the tap a fuse and weird it to the relay to drive the relay. I pulled the fuse for the front accessory port, and wired it online with the switch side of the relay. The spade connectors fit the fuse terminals perfectly.

It's not perfect, the circuit I used is only powered in the "run" position, not accessory. But it was better than always on.

I tried to get the dealer to add the upfitter/taxi wiring to my recent 2015 LWB wagon purchase. After initially being told it was possible by both the sales and service managers along with the shop foreman, eventually I had to talk to the "wiring specialist" for the shop who told me why it could not be done. Not only does Ford not include the wiring for the extra circuits, they don't even make it possible to use the fuse block to add the circuits. Only the supply side of the fuse has the connector. If not factory wired for an option, the load side of the fuse doesn't have anything installed. You can see there is no metal connection under the plastic cover for all the blank fuse slots. And they said even for repairs they can't order just the connectors from Ford, they have to replace the entire fuse panel.

I had the dealer run some wires for me but they had splices in the middle and different colored wires on each end. I didn't like their workmanship so I redid it myself last week. To do it how I wanted cost a couple hundred dollars in parts, but that was mostly because the small pieces had a minimum order of 100. I've got enough parts on hand to repeat my install on 6 vehicles plus build connectors for another 15-20. I'll be trying to do a writeup on my modification in the next couple days.

But as for the wiring diagrams, here's pix for the 2015 Transit Connect Taxi/Customer Access section.

The last one is the money shot on the final hookup I did at the cargo area fuse block.

I think between you and Don Shockley I at least have a plan now for the circuits I'd like to add. I don't have a AJB in the back I'll be going straight from the Battery, switched by a relay in the manner you described above, then on to a home made distribution setup. Do you remember which unused fuse sockets you found and which you used? I've looked at F37 (PAM) as its an option I don't have. If you have photos that would be greatly appreciated.
