Towing with the Transit Connect
103west43rd replied to isellford's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Towing & Upfit Packages
Try www.fordpartsuk.com They carry all the Ford accessories. Trevor Porter handles the parts sales. A very nice guy. I, and others on this forum, have purchased accessories from Trevor. That is where I purchased my european third brake light that fits in the right rear door, and my hub caps for my steel wheels. Also, try the UK Transit Forum website, www.fordtransit.org and chose the Transit Connect forum. One of the members, valetech, even builds and sells accessories like running boards, skid plates and roof spoilers! eBay UK also has many accessories listed for the Transit Connect. -
FOR SALE Transit Connect T200 L75 WRAPPED
103west43rd replied to Xtreme Signs's topic in Transit Connect Parts For Sale
Very nice wrap. It might give some Transit Connect owners in the US an idea! We only get black wheels here in the US, the silver would look nice with some of our color choices. Have you posted your Transit Connect for sale on the UK Transit Connect Forum? -

Welcome Bill. You are the first to post a picture of the radio in a 2012 Transit Connect. You did the right thing, reading all the previous posts (thanks). As you found out, the radio changed. There are no slots along the top and bottom edge to use the "keys" that removed the 2010 and 2011 year model radios. If I was to guess, I would say the bezel that surrounds the radio (and contains the three switches) would have to come off. If anyone on the forum has the workshop manual for the 2012 Transit Connect, or has removed a 2012 radio, please help Bill.

I mounted my ScanGauge above the lighting switch. Upper left gauge is the instant miles per gallon, lower left is the average miles per gallon for the current tank of gas, upper right is battery voltage and lower right is the outside temperature. -
As per page 154 in my 2010 Owners manual....... RECREATIONAL TOWING Follow these guidelines if you have a need for recreational (RV) towing. An example of recreational towing would be towing your vehicle behind a motorhome. These guidelines are designed to ensure that your transmission is not damaged. Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the vehicle. Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles with automatic transmissions: Do not tow the vehicle with the front drive wheels on the ground. It is recommended to tow your vehicle with the front drive wheels on a dolly with the transmission in N (Neutral) or with all four (4) wheels off the ground on a car-hauling trailer So much for towing in neutral.

Sorry, I cannot get a picture. The flash washes out the picture and it is out of focus. Keep in mind, the reason you may not be able to find the plugs is because you have a 2007, the previous generation of Transit Connects. They might not be there. Try the UK site, fordtransit.org , they may be able to help.

Remote Turn On Wire Head Unit
103west43rd replied to jbarraclough's topic in Audio, Navigation and SYNC
This is the info for the wiring in the 2010. Pin 16 of the 6000 radio connector is a yellow/green wire that is hot in the ACC and Run ignition switch positions. Pin 15 is a orange/black wire that is hot at all times. Hope that helps. -
This is a tough one. Here in the US, we only started receiving the Transit Connect model year 2010, and only with an automatic transmission and gasoline engine. Your 2007 is the previous generation and may be a manual transmission and it looks like it is a diesel. Here goes anyway.......from the inside of the van, look behind and above the brake pedal, there are two rubber plugs in the firewall (torpedowall). Good Luck.

Best for you to try the UK Transit site, Fordtransit.org, and click on the Transit Connect forum. They have over 200 entries on airbags. The US has only had the Transit Connect since 2010. In the US, the front passenger seat senses if there is a child seat attached and disables the airbag. We are also warned that using a child seat in the front is not recomended. The child is safer in the rear seats. I am guessing you only have the front seats in your van.

I agree with azdamay. I have had them on for two years. No problems. They are holding up well.

The center console is made up of three sections, the front floor console, the selector lever trim panel and the rear floor console section. Start with the rear floor section. Remove the two screw cover caps in the rear cup holder (the one with the divider) and remove the screws. Do not yet try to remove the console Next, you need to remove the lever trim panel to expose the front screws on the rear floor console. You will need to lift up the rear(the edge toward the hand brake)of the panel to release the clips. Once the rear is released, pull the panel towards you to release the front clips (behind the lighter and ventilation control). You do not need to remove the front (temp and fan controls) or rear(handbrake and cup holder) console. Now the screws holding down the front of the rear floor console are exposed. Remove the screws and you now have two of the three sections removed. This leaves the front floor console and it is the tough one to remove. On both sides of the console, along the edge of the carpet, pull outward to release the four retaining pins, two on either side. Then you have to detach the temp control and mode control cables at the heater core and evaporator core housing. Next pull the complete console away from the instrument panel releasing the ten retaining clips. Finally, remove the two electrical connectors from the controls. Good luck, it is a bit of a project!

I have purchased many items from Fordpartsuk and have not found any to be mis-represented in their description. Did they say the wheel covers were metal? I was also considering the same wheel covers, I just assumed they were plastic. I went with just the black center caps. One more thought about how they attach. They are supposed to snap around the cone washer at the base of the lug nut. That is the same lug nut that is also on the Fordpartsuk web site and is the type used on my 2010. I am wondering, since you show a 2012 Transit Connect, did Ford change the lug nuts they are using to the common type without the cone washer? If so, there is no way your wheel covers will stay on without, as you mention, some sort of glue. Let us know.

The panel the lighter and aux port are mounted in is called the "Selector lever trim panel". It is the panel that surrounds the shift lever.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I continued to look for "real" fog lights to replace the Hella work lamps I installed in place of the "juicers". I decided to take a chance on the Bulgarian fog lights mentioned by JJ Cobra back in May of 2010. Although JJ did not post a follow up, I saw the vendor was still selling them on eBay UK (I posted a picture in my gallery). I purchased a set and am very pleased. After installation they look almost the twin to the factory fog lights (I posted a finished picture in my gallery). This should be it for me and lighting. Six additional lights are enough!

This is how the Bulgarian fog lights look installed. Hard to tell the difference between aftermarket and factory. -

If you do not have factory fog lights, these replacements fit (with some cutting). Found on eBay UK. -
Sorry to see you go. You were one of the first forum members and your postings always had a quality content. One last question, are you the same "Madlock" that posts on Automotive News? Your third paragraph about Ford sounds very similar to the style of the "Automotive News Madlock".

How to do my own Fob Key.
103west43rd replied to Ronan O'Brien's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Key Fobs & Remote Start
Hello Ronan, your best bet is to look on the UK site, fordtransit.org. Their transit connect forum has almost 3,000 entries on just "fob"!! They must have an answer for you. -
Look up the posts from "Sunnysmith". They document his turbo project. A very nice guy. He posted some YouTube videos of his turbo Transit Connect in action.

A dark blue Transit Connect was the "get away van" on an episode of the CBS show "The Mentalist" last night.

If it is the stock radio without the CD player, it is just lousy. Nothing you can do. I tried larger antennas, nothing worked. The upgraded radio with the CD player is better, not great, but useable. if you have the model without the CD player, replace it with a aftermarket model.
