those are interesting. thanks for sharing. not sure how they will look on a TC though but worth checking out. I think the first thing to do is to add an insulation layer to the exposed metal skin - mostly the roof area. that should help in controlling temperature and road noise.

What should I do?

@MegaZone - great news on the van. not to dampen your spirits, but you're going to need another dose of patience till you get delivery. To give you a ballpark, below is the timeline for my order. Good luck! 07/11/14 - van on order 09/02/14 - 2015 production started 10/02/14 - order selected for production at end of October. 10/17/14 - got VIN from the dealer 10/30/14 - van produced 01/10/15 - delivery at the dealer in CA -
installed the new custom seat covers last weekend. these covers have a separate seat and back piece, which requires more time to put on but has a much nicer fit. the passenger seat was easier to install. the driver side took more time because there is a flap behind the seat back, which can be unhooked. so far I like these covers but time will tell. there is a velcro flap on the side of the seat where the air bag is located. they are very well made and the fit is probably as best you can get on a semi-custom basis. pics below aren't very clear. will take others with better lighting when I get a chance.

Roof attachment points on 2014 Transit Connect
windguy replied to hdrider's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
@EmoMorales - thanks for the rack input. could you also post a pic of how the rack looks on your Gen 2. The pic you have in your post in on a Gen 1 TC. How many of the mounting holes do the rails use for mounting? I think 4 of the 5 holes are accessible from the cargo area and the most forward one is blocked by the cab area headliner. Also curious about the height of the rack. Does the rack sit below the antenna? thanks -

@bob248 - thanks for the rack info. can you take a pic of your rack so we can see how nice it looks? windsurfing in the midwest? really? just kidding. I'm sure there are some fun lakes to shred on. I posted a few pics in my photo gallery of the cargo area of my van that has a rack I made to store sails and masts. check it out. -
@leprechaun - thanks for the post. I'd be concerned about the side airbags that are mounted inside the seat backs. In a Gen 2 TC, the bucket seat bottoms are squeezed in pretty tightly against the center console. not much extra space in there.

I have similar requirements so that I can clear the garage door, roughly 6" having about 9" of clearance to work with. How about calling the manufacturer direct and ask for a PDF spec sheet.

that sucks. wonder WTF is going on with your order. someone at Ford needs to step up to the plate and get you some info. good luck! -
Powerpoint recall
windguy replied to bikinchris's topic in Recalls & Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)
my 2015 cargo van has a 12VDC socket in the right rear. strange that yours doesn't. I also took a peek at the wiring going to it by opening the rear access cover. I have ideas of using this as a 12V source for perhaps installing a rear light. -
@LostInTransit thanks for posting the link and sharing your ideas. those types of vents look interesting. please keep us posted on what you end up doing. I'm still a bit reluctant to start carving up the new van

the day I picked up my new van it was raining and when I had the front wipers on and put the van in reverse the rear wiper did a single swipe, perhaps a safety issue. haven't gotten enough rain this winter to test again but perhaps what you're seeing is something similar.

it would be very cool to have a pair of speakers mounted in these panels with a remote control for the radio. so if you're hanging out back tailgating you can listen to some music.

I figured since the wiper cover is shown as green then the other plastic covers would be green as well. That diagram only shows 3 of the covers in green, so one is missing. The purple has 4 covers. thanks for the pics. very nice. yours are gray. figured they would be black like the wiper cover in my van. the fasteners on the masonite panels are black too, yet yours are also gray. Wonder what color the spare parts ones are. will check out the other diagrams in the spare parts catalog.

thanks for the input. I don't recall that happening with previous cars, 15 deg - ouch. you've had a long winter. hope you get a little warm up this week
-
thanks for providing that. so the purple color ones are the masonite panel version and the green ones are black plastic version. I'd like to see those on a wagon model before ordering.
-
thanks for the update. glad you were able to easily fix that. nice job!

With all the extra height of the van I made a gear rack for my windsurfing sails and masts. The rack is suspended from the upper sides of the van using custom made brackets. The rack is made of wood that's painted grey and carpeted on top and the side. -

My TC loaded with windsurfing and surfing gear. This is why I got the van, as a two seat beach cruiser with lots of cargo room in the back. For the cargo area floor, I added a sheet of 1/2" plywood for a more stable surface. The plywood was primed and painted on both sides. The top surface has a layer of grey carpet for a more finished look. The carpet is tucked over the exposed edges. The brown tarp shown is to capture some of the never ending sand and water that ends up in the van. I had to add a wood stick to keep the doors open since it's often windy when I'm at the beach and the doors close with the slightest breeze. The wood stick has a notch cut in each end with some added insulation so it gently grips the top of the door frame without marring the paint.. -
