  1. Have a 2016 Transit Connect: 1. XLT Wagon. 2. 2.5L DOHC Duratec I-4. 3. SelectShift 6-Speed Automatic Transmission. 4. LWB. 5. Modified for rear entry wheelchair & tie downs. 6. Low mileage, <30,000 miles. 7. Maintenance free inside & outside. Still like new.
  2. What are the pros & cons of the "Ford Protect Extended Service Plan" for up to the earlier of 8 years or 150,000 miles?
  3. Titanium Passenger Wagon-Transit Connect https://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/transit-connect-cargo-van/models/transit-connect-titanium/
  4. Spooner, Re your “I do 5k mile oil changes with full synthetic oil and will get the transmission serviced soon as well.” Several questions: 1. What type & brand of motor oil do you recommend? 2. What is Ford’s recommendation for Transmission Servicing? 3. Do you by chance know if the regular XL Transit Connect has an “undercoat” applied at the factory? a. We’ve had our first “highway salting” of this winter & I’m a bit concerned about rusting from road salting! b. Does anyone in this Forum have any experience with undercoating & road salt corrosion?
  5. Re DonShockley, Posted October 12, 2016, Got any photos? Don, • Photo "c": Middle bench seat still installed; third row seat omitted on order. • Photo "f": Manual ramp fully extended for wheelchair loading. • Photo "h": Wheelchair tub channel shown; retractable straps forward & rear wheelchair anchor points at the rear; rear detachable straps not shown.
  6. Just took delivery of a 2016 Transit Connect WAV converted by Sunset Vans, 8851 Lakewood Blvd, Downey, Ca 90240 - http://www.sunsetvans.com/about.html Manual rear entry via very lightweight counter-balanced manual ramp. Too early to determine fully but I’m satisfied so far. The Sunset workmanship quality is excellent, good interior design, material & craftsmanship! The fittings/placement/tie-downs for a MANUAL WHEELCHAIR are excellent. I really like the extra foot/leg room afforded by the Sunset design of extending the tub/channel beneath the rear bench seat. I’ve not seen this extra tub length from any other WAV converter. The fittings/placement/tie-downs for my large POWER WHEELCHAIR are tight, a smaller Power chair than my Invacare Ranger X should fit well. Headroom is very adequate using a manual wheelchair & manageable using my power wheelchair.
  7. Rod, My Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) is in transit to me, hopefully arriving tomorrow from: Sunset Vans, Inc. 8851 Lakewood Blvd. Downey, Ca 90240 http://www.sunsetvans.com/TCPackageA-intro.html I specked & purchased the Sunset "TC Package A - 2016 Ford Transit Connect XL Wagon with Rear Entry Manual Ramp." Rear Manual folding Ramp- Counter Balanced Ramp folds flat inside when no wheelchair in position Safety Kit, First Aid Kit, Flat Tire Kit, & Fire Extinguisher 2 Front Electric Self Retractable Wheelchair Tie-Downs (Extra Long) 2 Rear Sure-Lok Self Retractable Wheelchair Tie Downs (Titans) Lap Belt with Retractable Shoulder Belt 3 Person Bench with Patented Forward & Rear Position Adjustment Conversion Specs: Front to rear of Tub Cut out- 61 ¼" Tub width inside- 30 ¼" Ramp width – 30 1/8" Ramp length- 52" Door opening floor to roof- 56 ½" I worked with Nick Chen (Nick@sunsetvans.com ) extension # 301, almost totally by e-mail because I’m speech impaired. Nick handled all of my newbie questions thoroughly. I’m 6' 1" tall & the head space on the "TransitWorks" WAV that I tried in a road test was adequate. The foot space was very tight. Sunset has their Tub, or wheelchair channel, up underneath the rear bench seat so that gives an extra 4"-6" over all the other WAVs. This was my deciding factor. As your son grows, he’ll need this extra leg room. If your Titanium has the two rear Bucket Seats instead of the bench seat, that’ll give some extra leg room if your son can lift up his legs. The drawback is that I could never find a WAV converter that offered a WAV in the bucket seat version. However, recently, I ran across a photo in which Assisted Transportation Systems (238 Development Dr. Columbia, KY 42728 ph: 1-877-385-VANS fax: 270-384-2225 alt: 270-384-2220) offered a rear bucket seat WAV. In addition to the Retractable Tie Downs, I ordered the EZ Lock Wheelchair lock for extra tie down, a bit of overkill maybe but it sounds necessary. If you’re out west, give them a call if you’ve not yet committed to a WAV converter, I liked Sunset so far but will have to reserve judgement after I use this WAV for several months. Good luck to you & your son.
  8. 1. What is the floor space separation in the Ford Transit Connect equipped with Second-Row Fold-Flat BUCKET Seats? 2. I am wanting to buy a Ford Transit Connect, LWB + XLT, for use as a wheelchair adapted vehicle (WAV). 3. The available standard LWB Ford Transit Connect WAV have a wheelchair channel that is too short in floor length for me (6' 1") plus my large Invacare Ranger X Power chair plus my size 12 shoes. 4. Both the Second-Row Fold-Flat BUCKET Seats" & the Second-Row Three Passenger 60/40 Fold-Flat BENCH Seats are available on 2016 Transit Connect XLT as Ford factory options. 5. I think the Second-Row Fold-Flat BUCKET Seats" would allow me additional raised foot space in a WAV modified XLT LWB Transit Connect with a rear entry wheelchair channel & ramp. 6. Therefore, I need to understand the floor space separation between the two Second-Row Fold-Flat BUCKET Seats! 7. Welcome any information on the floor space separation in the Ford Transit Connect equipped with Second-Row Fold-Flat BUCKET Seats? 8. If full specification measurement are available on the Second-Row Fold-Flat BUCKET Seats, please advise link, source, etc.!
  9. BUZZARD, Did you buy & install this HVAC? If so, how did it perform? Were you satisfied?
  10. 1. I have been approved for the Automobile Adaptive Equipment (AAE) Grants and Special Adaptive Equipment Grants as part of the VA's Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Services. 2. I have VA Form 21-4502 signed, approved & in hand. 3. I think that the Ford Transit Connect special purpose van (basically a Minivan) adapted for a Rear Entry wheelchair ramp & locking devises suits my needs best. 4. I do not need the much more expensive Honda, Toyota & Chrysler Minivans. 5. My problem is that I have been told by numerous BraunAbility WAV dealers (*) that the Ford Transit Connect is NOT approved by the Department of Veteran Affaires for the Disability Compensation - Automobile and Special Adaptive Equipment Grants. a. (*) Specifically Carolina Mobility Sales, Charlotte, NC (Re-branded to Achieve Mobility Sales) & MobilityWorks, Atlanta Georgia. 6. Is it true that the VA will NOT approve the Ford Transit Connect for the AAE grants? 7. If so, please tell the reason!
