kahern
I have a 2019 Transit Connect cargo van-with a towing package. I need to tow a 1400lb flat bed trailer 3,000 miles (round trip). Is this doable safely with the vehicle? I appreciate your input.
Gideon
Personally, I would not do it if you have a turbo engine. But with the 2.5 the TC can tow "up to" 2000 lbs, so should not be any worry. I topw a 1700 +/- lbs tent-trailer in summer [true - only about 250Km each way] with no problem at all. And without "factory" towing pkg. With the factory pkg you can rest easy. But watch your TOTAL load => van + trailer, as it may affect handling & braking.
JackGrimshaw
How you load the trailer is also an issue. You want 10-15% tongue weight. I regularly haul 1500 lb loads in my trailer.Pulling is no problem but increase your stopping distance by 50%.I would not travel in slippery conditions at higher speeds without trailer brakes. The trailer tends to push the ass end of the van around when braking. Absolutely correct for hitch load and braking !! Although I never had trouble with my tent-trailer (about 1700lbs loaded, no trailer brakes), was/am careful to not "stomp" on brakes. Allow distance and time for stopping.
G B L
Lots of loads all kinds of weather any time of year . Pay attention to the hitch weight and don't drive like and Idiot . The brakes on a gen2 TC are up to the task. BSJBSJ
G B L
As an after thought if you install one of these sway controls it will enhance the safety and towing experience alot. All my trailer's have these . Edited January 11, 2022 by G B L
