BSJBSJ
Is there anywhere I could get just the Key part of a 2021 Connect made or purchased? I'd rather have the key and Fob/remote separate from each other on my Leatherman Super Tool key chain... Don Ridley
There is a chip in the key that is read by the ignition switch. You would need a key with the proper chip and program the vehicle to recognize it. I assume a 2014-2019 type key would work, but I don't know for sure. DonShockley
If you just want one to open the doors but not actually start the car, there is a "dumb" key available. I always get one to put in my wallet just in case I accidentally lock my actual key set in the vehicle. Only ever needed it once, but that was well worth the price. But if you just want to seperate the parts on an existing fob, they come apart easy enough. There's a screw unter the pry-off battery cover. BSJBSJ
No I just want to have a key that isn't 4 5/8" long to start my van. I found an empty shell with an uncut blade for $13. I will get the blade cut and remove it from the shell, and attach that to my ring. I will still have the fob on my keychain so the chip will talk to the computer but everything will hang closer to the column. If needed, I can unlock my van with the Ford app.

Any chance you got the part number for this? I've got a 2019 that I've been thinking of getting a key for.
BSJBSJ
I couldn't find the blade by itself so I ordered a 'shell' off Ebay For Ford Transit Connect Replacement Key Keyless Remote Case Shell Uncut Blade | eBay I haven't received it yet, nor got it cut, so I can't say for 100% that it will work... Also a photo showing how short the dumb key is once you remove the plastic at the end. Fits much better in a wallet that way.
BSJBSJ
Got the key cut today at Ace Hardware for free! Works too. But you have to hold the live fob very close to the naked dumb key to get it to register before it will start the engine. I hoped it would have more range... Not as convenient as I had hoped. TC2014
Yeah, you need the transponder in order to start the vehicle. There are smaller non-button chip-keys you could get but you need a locksmith or the dealership to cut and program it. Running around with 1 working key isn't a great idea either. If you lose your only key, most Fords need 2 keys cut and programmed at minimum to get going
Fifty150
Transponder keys have an RFID chip inside of the key. That is recognized by a reader near the ignition. It can be cloned. You can buy a key blank, copy your key for the physical lock tumblers, and then electronically clone the RFID of your key. The car will see both keys as the same key. There are different things that can be done with the electronic key identification by the car's passive anti theft system. With a Ford IDS computer, or a Snap On computer, it is possible to delete individual keys, delete all keys, program new keys, etc. Most dealerships, automotive locksmiths, and some independent mechanics, will know how to do this. In The USA, you have the right to repair. Key blanks and key fobs are easily found online, and in retail stores. Any hardware store or shoe repair shop can manually duplicate the cuts on a key. You can certainly buy a Ford IDS computer or a Snap On computer. Key clone tools are readily available from locksmith suppliers, and even on Amazon and eBay. Fifty150
For some owners, this key chart will apply. I believe that this chart is about a decade old. Newer cars made in the last 10 years will have a different type of key.
