Krustybiker
Not sure if this is the correct area, here goes. The heater on my 2015 1.6 diesel Connect Tourneo is blowing cold. On occasion, the engine temperature rises and the motor loses power, then within about half a mile returns to normal. The cooling fan runs pretty much constantly. Help! Please, I'm sure someone has the answer!
Double Nickels
Engine is heating. Coolant is not carrying heat to the heater core. Fan is on. I would datalog and do a computer diagnostic. It appears as if the cooling system is controlled by the car's computer, and there are electrically controlled valves. One of those valves or a sensor may be at fault. Or it could be an old fashion mechanical thermostat not working. A bad water pump could also be an issue. What is the coolant level? Do you see coolant in the degas bottle? The computer is reading the coolant temp, and that's why the fan is turning on. Check the upper hose, heater hose, and radiator to see if they are hot. If not, then coolant is not getting past the thermostat. Get a scan tool to see what temperature the coolant is, and check if your transmission fluid is also hot. If the engine heats up, your transmission fluid may not cool properly via the heat exchanger.
Krustybiker
I have been told it could be a head gasket, there seems to be air in the system. I really hope not, as I know this could be expensive. The coolant level is low, when I release the pressure cap, it comes back up. Where's it hiding?? There are bubbles in the return tube (the small one, I think is a bypass, at the bottom of the bottle. G B L
Is it loosing coolant? You can test for combustion gasses in the coolant with a tester. If it is not loosing coolant then you could have a thermostat issue. If there is no heat then the coolant is low, top it off and see how long it takes to get low again
Fifty150
Eddy Kilowatt posted a good exploded view of the cooling system. 2 hours ago, Krustybiker said: There are bubbles in the return tube (the small one, I think is a bypass, at the bottom of the bottle. There appear to be 2 hoses in the Degas bottle. I hope the diagram helps you figure out which hose goes where, and where those bubbles may be returning from. Um, note that diagram is from the manual for the 2015 USA-spec 2.5 gas engine (as best as I can tell... the manual is not always clear about the differences between the 2.5 and the 1.6 turbo). Euro spec diesel is probably going to be quite different from this picture.
