Ordering question

Recommended Posts

I put in an order with my local dealer. I'm having a hard time getting information from him about the order. I expect that there should be some kind of number attached to the order, but the salesman says there's nothing.

When you have ordered in the past, what did you get from the dealer?

thanks,

Jack

For the curious, here are my features:

Metallic

LWB XLT

Split rear doors

Quick clear

dual zone temp control

roof rack w/rails

tow package

congrats on getting your TC ordered.
I'm guessing you're ordering a wagon model and not a van model since you're getting a roof rack option.

I ordered my van via the Costco program so when at the dealer he entered my order into the Ford system and kicked out a 2 page Vehicle Order Confirmation.

This lists all the options by name and their code and also MSRP and dealer Invoice. That's a requirement for the Costco program since you pay dealer invoice or in my case $100 less. I wanted to make sure the van had the right options ordered so it's important to see this since it takes months to get, in my case about 6 months. About 10 days after the order was placed into the Ford system the dealer got back a confirmation back from the ordering system that the van is ordered. You can make changes to the order until they issue a VIN number and schedule production.

BTW - some forum posters weren't crazy about the quick clear. something about lines running through the front windshield that took some getting used to. you might want to do a search on that to find their posts. It's been a while. The regular defroster works really well for me but never had ice on the windshield. Poster GBL would be a good person to answer that question since he lives in that icebox state aka Vermont.

Regarding other options to consider, I really like the backup camera option and the front/rear parking sensors. Highly recommend adding those.

Also, it's really inexpensive to add extra key fobs when ordering, $65 msrp, but very expensive to get them later.

I also love the fog lamps that are adaptive for cornering and the daytime running lights is an inexpensive option at $45) that's worthwhile.

The panic about quick clear lines is an aquired problem. The lines are half the thickness of human hair and you have to focus hard on seeing it in detail. It might bother a fighter pilot but not a regular person with a regular vision. The feature is the best Ford has come up with. Had it in my '96 Escort and fell in love with it fight away. No scraping needed, the ice and mist is gone in a few seconds (or 30 if it's really thick).

It reminds me of the other unbearable problems people list justifying their car related choices:

  • "oh, I can never drive an automatic because"
    • "my left foot is just so used to clutching and I'll be all over the brake pedal with it" (stop it, it'll be ok in two days max)
    • "I'm a MAN/WOMAN and want to be in control of my own car" (right)
  • "I don't like Bluetooth hands-free, I have too sensitive stuff to talk about" (stop cheating on your partner or get an earpiece)
  • "what's streaming?"
    • "oh, no, I have all my CDs with me, they're classic" (let me consult my calendar for the current century)
    • "the quality loss of streaming/mp3 is not acceptable, CDs all the way, I only listen to vinyl at home" (which measuring instrument you use for listening to music in the car?)
  • "I got the regular cruise control with my brand new car because I don't like the automatic accel/decel of the adaptive cruise control" (be honest, you were being cheap)

In most cases a simple "I like it" would do. Admitting that the technology is way over your head and asking for help is out of the question.

Heh.

Thanks for the info on the Costco order. Yes I'm getting a wagon, not a van. I did see a list of features before the order, so I know it's correct. I just wanted something to 'mark my place in line'. When ordering non-car items, I find it's always better to refer to an order/customer number rather than having to search by name.

When researching options, I noticed there was some discussion on the quick clear feature. There seemed to be two issues. Old vs new installations. The implementations of the 70's and 80's would turn a funny color as they aged. Since the 90's they seemed to have fixed the problem. The other issue is what mrtn mentions "I can just scrape my windshield". After seeing the videos on youtube, I was sold, especially because our cars live outside. Strangely, the rear defroster is a requirement. The only valid criticism I've seen was replacement cost.

The backup camera is on the order, but I forgot to mention it. My wife simply didn't want the other options.

What you are describing is called a 'retrogrouch' at least in the cycling world. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Retrogrouch

thanks again for the info.

The list of standard features on the XLT wagon is pretty long and includes the camera, but not the backup sensors. The quick clear windshield would have been nice but My TC was on the lot and the die was cast.

Here is the window sticker from a 2015 XL wagon and the window sticker from a 2016 XLT. This shows the standard Equipment.

The only valid criticism I've seen was replacement cost.

The Gen1 quick clear windshield costs €230 + labor here. Most people have insurance covering the glass + replacement in case of stone chips or cracks.

$256.00 US, not bad!

The Safelite Quote for a gen 1 is $324.00 for a regular glass, no QuickClear for the gen 1.

The Safelite Auto glass over the internet Quote is 618.95, for the Gen 2 Quickclear.

Both prices include Install.

They must be sending it from Estonia!!

You could be right, I think both the Glass people and Ford Motor, Go with the best price.

If your windshield makers Can do it at the right price they would do it.

That being said the people here would squeeze us as hard as they could.

Much of it possibly related to latitude. I wonder if there are seat heaters standard in Florida.

(Over here A/C has been extra in lower trim levels pretty much to the mid 2000s, my TC has none. Haven't seen a car without one past that point tho)

The AC was Optional here also on the lower cars, The Options here are sold in packages it would be nice to have every thing Ala cart . The seat heaters are part of an up scale option that gives you more stuff you do not need or want. I think that seat heaters are not big in Florida.

The Wagon I bought was the XLT and it had just about everything I needed.and the only Option on the car was the Alloy wheels.

The Cars I Bought 15 years ago would be Base cars to day.
