this topic was started by Johnyguy in another thread and I just saw something new on it so thought it would be better to give it it's own thread. Going to repeat the original posts to get the thread started.

The other day I was driving and I saw a wagon version right next to me at the red light I noticed above the rear lights they use a reflector instead of the black plastic filler on the cargo version I think that's a cheap move from ford,I will see how much that would coast to replace from the dealer it would help to make the van look more finished plus would help others to see you better.

Regarding the tail lights, I would agree that the extra lens on top look more integrated compared to a black filler piece. Wonder why there is a difference between the wagon and van models for this. From your picture it looks like it's a separate lens assembly. Hard to tell if there are any bulbs inside this part.

I guess they cared more about the esthetics of the wagon than the van and to save money.

I've attached Johnguy's original pic and added a pic of his van showing the black lens cover version

I noticed on the TC Facebook page that someone had the same thoughts as Johnyguy and made this very mod. see the link below. Sure does look more integrated this way. Not so sure about changing the nameplate from Transit Connect to Tourneo Connect but I guess they wanted to make their van something different.

Could also be FMVSS standards that require a reflector on passenger vehicles rear panels somewhere. Maybe the "working" tucks don't fall under the same guidelines.

interesting thought. pretty sure the passenger wagons don't have the upper lens unless you have the Titanium package. that's the reason those folks in the Facebook link above made the mod to theirs. if as you say the lens offers reflective advantages, then I'd be interested in making the mod as well from a safety standpoint, aside from the aesthetic reasons.

So looking at the pictures of the FB vehicles, the reflectors in the lower bumper skin would satisfy the FMVSS, making the upper reflectors just a nice to have from an aesthetic standpoint versus the black caps.

ONLY reason I have any inkling of the FMVSS is that I also own a Jeep and need to make sure I don't fly afoul of the regs. In FL they are rather lenient, but other places they can be real sticklers.

I saw a few TC around where i live and i was wondering why not all passenger versionvan don't have that extra reflector now i know it has to have a titanium pack .

Btw i never got around to actually buy that reflector but i will look into it probably not cheap.

But it would make a nice upgrade.

I also need to get the back windows tinted at some point.

I ordered a while back some led for the reverse ligths it works great very brigth at superbrigthled.com but you may find on ebay for less money the turn signals needs a big resistor in order to work mounted on the body of the van as a heat sink, i did not feel like to trouble with tha its not worth it in my opinion,

Also migth look into some PIAA premium halogen headlight ballbs for the front to have better visibility.

Thanks for the info!

My nearly new 2015 Transit Connect XLT LWB - this was less than 12 hours after buying the vehicle.

Not sure why it melted, but I need to get another one ASAP, and hopefully this won't happen again.

It ended up melting the upper piece above the taillight also....

trying to attach a picture here of what this looks like, but no success...

Looks like the Tail and stop light bulb was installed incorrectly or the socket assembly is faulty. If the stop light is on as a tail light it could over heat the socket.

That should be an easy fix for Ford.

@twinankhs - congrats on our your TC

Sorry to hear about your tail light issue. bummer

Must be the stop and go traffic out here in CA that did it unless you're one of those drivers that drives with two feet :whistling:

Hopefully you can get Ford Service to fix this as a warranty electrical issue.

To get back to the original thread. The high mount reflectors are Titanium trim only. XLT has black fillers. They're a ridiculous $156 each when I checked. I liked them too. It's not a safety thing, but a trim package one.
