windguy
xlt cargo white with tan interior ,trailer hitch, side glass, sync, remote start, alloy wheels, daytime running lights, back up cam and sensors, sticker $28 485. that sounds like a really nice setup. thanks for sharing. I want to get a lot of those options too. I'm really curious to see the van with the side windows and how the last panel looks with it, because it's inset from the body. Might be a bit strange but I really want to have glass on the sliders for added visibility. now I'm jealous!

hdrider
Well, mine finally arrived this week, after about 17 weeks from order date. Unfortunately the dealer apparently screwed up the order, and it has a rear liftgate instead of the symmetrical rear doors with no glass, as I specified. Totally useless to me, since the lift gate won't work with a ladder on top, and will not provide the security I need for my tools. So, back to square one. They did give me my deposit back without too much hassle, although they didn't have much choice, as I had given them the configuration in writing, and even went through it with them verbally (several times). However it looks like inventory has improved, so I may find something close on the lot. And the prices have dropped. A lot of them in inventory are still configured kind of stupid though. Most of them are still being built without lights in the cargo area. But there are now some around with USB ports and backup cameras. I also wanted the quick clear windshield defroster, 'cause I hate when its below zero chopping ice off the windshield, and I even saw one of those. But its tough to get a cargo light, quick clear defroster, and backup camera all one one vehicle.
windguy
@hdrider - that's messed up. sorry to hear of this. hopefully you can find something close to what you want in dealer inventory now. I sent you a PM. First time doing that so not sure how that works. keep us posted

When I ordered mine I set done with the dealer and we configured together after that he printed out the order with all my options so I have a copy of that. I also ordered one with second row glasses and French door trunk plus heated front windshield. This options are very hard to come by when I ordered mine there was only one like that about 160 miles away but it had a lift gate ,and I did not wanted that it's not practical for me , also heated mirrors six way sits... But knowing you got your order in in only 17 weeks gives me hope that it can happen less than 7 months like some others waited. Never the less sorry about your issue. hdrider
Well at long last I finally have a TC. The one I had hoped for, which is one of the few I could find with Quick Clear windshield defrost, is still stuck in Baltimore. The dealer tried to find out when it would ship to them, but Ford could tell them nothing (as usual). But the dealer did have one come in that had almost everything else I wanted, so I took it. One feature I got that I had not considered was front vinyl floor covering. In reading the description on the Ford configurator, I thought that it was just vinyl floor mats. Of course you can probably get better floor mats from Weathertech. But it turns out this option is actually the elimination of the carpet. This is a fantastic idea, as I've said for years, it is lunacy to put carpet on the floor of a work vehicle. So I lucked out with that. Another feature I could not get was the larger mirrors. I never could tell exactly what these were, as there seem to be no good pictures of them anywhere. But after using this for a few days now, I'm definitely going to need to add aftermarket mirrors. With the cargo van configuration there is a very bad blind spot on the drivers side which you cannot see by turning your head, due to not having glass in back. The only way to view this blind spot is to check the small convex mirror set into the larger mirror. Edited July 4, 2014 by hdrider

tdan
Hi there. I bought a tectonic silver TC wagon LWB last week. Traded in a Dodge Grand Caravan. Already getting 5mpg more. Certainly there are some compromises going to the TC. Mostly my trailer and recently ordered cargo carrier will remedy those issues, just a little more planning. This leads to my biggest disapointment the TC won't swallow a 4by8 sheet of material. Where as the Dodge was as a overall package awesome for spur of the moment box store run. Sadly the dodge as a package is more user friendly. But as a vehicle mine had been very problematic . Being a mechanic/auto body tech for 30 some years . It gets old working on your own vehicle. Now my thoughts on the TC, yep it's a commercial van alright and with a bunch of bolt on parts to make it a more livable van. However i love the simplicity of it not a lot a plastic to break and fall off. I see much improved build quality in the TC particularly the seam sealing around the doors as well the rocker panels. This nice since i live in the midwest where salt is used. I HATE rust and the Dodge was full of it. I do miss the armrest on the driver seat and the slick folding seats of the Dodge. But the firmer suspension and dead on steering along the better balance, as well lighter weight (over 500lbs) makes the TC a joy to drive. I won't miss that other wallering pig! So we'll see how it goes from here. Thanks
windguy
Hi there. I bought a tectonic silver TC wagon LWB last week. congrats on your new TC. that's a nice color. sadly they don't offer it in the van model. The 4x8 sheet would fit width wise, but would extend out the door by about a foot. can you leave the door open and tie it down? do you a liftgate or 180deg doors? how about a pic? tdan
Hey there i went with the 180 doors as the lift gate measured 3in longer than the Dodge. Having only a 7 ft garage door opening i could see interference issues, Dodge did if not driven far enough. Yeah it has auto headlamps wipers, mid over head console along with the My Ford Sync W/ HD radio , Sat. with usb aux etc.. One concern i have are the tires. The vehicles in our fleet that have the Continental tires had shore short wear life and chopping across half the tread width. My plans are to rebalance them rotation. So we'll see. I'll get a pic on sometime.
windguy
@tdan, sounds like a nice setup. I prefer the 180deg doors too. The liftgate is very big and heavy. never considered that it would be above the roof line, more just horizontal, but I can see that being an issue. I have only an 80" opening for my garage so I have very limited space to squeeze the van in. This was after I raised the door slightly after another poster suggested doing so. The one advantage to the liftgate is that is provides some shelter underneath if raining. If you have long items on a roof rack above it's in the way. I also parallel park in tight spaces when at the beach so the liftgate isn't ideal. hope the barn doors work out for us. They seem pretty solid when I checked them out at the dealer. Those OEM Contis appear to have a bad reputation as posted by others. I'm really bummed about that. I will need to have a decent tire on there so I can take this van on dirt/gravel roads occasionally. Please share if you have more info on replacement tires other than the Contis. bikinchris
My van seemed to take forever. It took about 5 1/2 months. I didn't get any real news until it just showed up one day. Salesman was checking often. It showed up in Florida one day and was on the lot in a week. A race red LWB cargo van. First trip was about 25.5 mpg. If the Texas speed limit wasn't 75mph, it would have made better mileage. Edited July 21, 2014 by bikinchris
windguy
@bikinchris glad you got your van after a long wait. what options did you add? how about a pic of your new van?
bikinchris
Adding photos does not work. But I have posted an image here: www.eaglewheel.us/images/transit/EW_Transit_002_01.jpg My van has Sync and Sirius radio. No back windows and a reverse camera. windguy
@bikinchris, that's a very cool looking van. thanks for posting a pic. looks like you also have splash guards, alloy wheels and maybe forward and reverse sensors. enjoy your new van
PerfectHold
Got my XL LWB a month ago after Feb order. Generally pleased. Couple questions: Is that center console area that looks like it has speaker holes supposed to have a speaker under it that puts out sound? And how do you reset the trip odometer? Rich Arsenault
I now have 5k on my 2014 LWB cargo version. Just took a 750-mile camping trip (two adults and a medium sized dog..enough provisons for 4 days) and everything went great. I average 37 mpg on the highway at appx 70mph. Seats over that duration were decent enough...I'm not sore but I can't say we cruised in total comfort either. Road noise was tiresome due to the cargo van and it's lack of insulation but I think the bigger culprit were the lousy Continental tires. Both are fixable. Overall a good experience.
