USB ports on 2014 TC

I'm trying to find out if there are any USB ports on the 2014. I know that the Ford SYNC option is available and can connect to a phone via Bluetooth. But I'm wondering if a USB port is available and if so, if it will charge an iPhone and iPad. (Not all USB ports will provide charging.)

Is it part of the Radio/SYNC option, or is it located somewhere else on the vehicle?

I've looked on the Ford web site and can't find it in the options or specs, or spot it on any of the gallery photos. The local dealers are pretty clueless about the vehicles in general, and none of the 2014's have showed up here yet to look at.

I'm talking about the European version but the bodywork should be pretty much the same.

A charging USB port is there in the center console together with a 3.5 mm AUX port and what it looks to me a SecureDigital slot? The center console is an optional extra. The USB and AUX are there in the dash top drawer as standard. I'll go see the machine in a week or so as it was supposed to arrive here then I can confirm everything.

Hello hdrider. As per the 2014 Ford Transit Connect owners manual, there are 2 USB ports, 1 audio port and 1 SD card slot in the center console (Ford calls it the Media Hub) with the Ford Sync option. Here is the URL to search for the 2014 owners manual, https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePageVehicleLookup&BackToLogin=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage&ord=93039680 , One last item, if your Ford dealer did not have the courtesy to look up the answer to your question, find one that knows how to treat a customer before you buy your new Transit Connect. Please keep this forum updated if you purchase a 2014 as we transition our dialogue from the 2010-2013 first generation in the US. Good Luck.

I am yet to meet a car dealer who knows about what they're selling. The questions I turn to them with have them "umm" and promise to find out and never do. The best case was in a Honda dealership where one of the original sales guys (I have bought several cars from) did not know how to open the trunk in a car I went to see. That's what happens when you have people lined up for more cars than you can deliver.

A couple of the 2014s arrived at one the local dealers yesterday, and I test drove one this morning. I think it will work out well for my business, but need to know if the USB port(s) are going to charge my devices, otherwise I have to look at some kind of aftermarket solution.

There were no USB ports on this one that anybody could find. Maybe because it did not have the SYNC option.

There was a hole that the dealer thought was an "aux in" port on the center console (see photo). Nobody could really say for sure.

I asked the dealer to find out what you need to order to get the USB ports and whether they have enough output to charge an iPad, but I'm not optimistic that they will come back with an answer, or if they do, whether I can believe them.

hdrider, are you sure you want to buy your Transit Connect from a dealer that will not take the time to get the owners manual out of the glove box and look up where the aux input is? As per the owners manual on the Ford website in my previous post, the aux input is in the center console. Yes, according to the Ford 2014 Transit Connect website http://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/transitconnect-commercial/ , the USB port comes with the SYNC option.

Although I've been happy with Ford products over the years, I've yet to find a dealer who knows very much about what they are selling, or is interested in finding out. And there aren't all that many Ford dealers in the area to choose from.

The next nearest dealer to me is still insisting that the 2014 TCs are the same as the 2013s, and the new version will arrive this Summer as the 2015 model. Obviously they are confusing the full-size Transit with the Transit Connect. I've tried explaining it, but that was a waste of time, as they don't seem to believe me.

Thank you for the link to the owners manual above. I checked it myself, and although the aux in port is described on p. 253, there is not a diagram that I can find that shows where it is located. I assume my photo above shows the correct location.

Page 253 does show a diagram showing a single USB port (noted as "if equipped") near the location of the aux in, in my photo. However the vehicle I looked at did not have this USB port. Page 254 shows a console that looks different than the one in the vehicle I looked at, showing the location of a cluster of two USB ports, the SD slot, and audio input.

I'm not sure which vehicles will have the USB cluster. I'm guessing if you order the SYNC option, you get the other type of console shown on p. 254. But I'm not finding that explicitly stated anywhere. And per the manual, apparently some vehicles do come with just a single USB port, but I'm not sure which ones.

If you do purchase from one of these ford dealers make sure that they have a service dept staff that knows what they are doing. I have been to both ford dealer here in my town and both the sales staff and service staff are nothing but morons. Took the sales staff 30 minutes to figure out how to open the hood to show me the engine compartment. After they had to play with the computers and make some phone calls to figure it out is when I pointed out the sticker on the drivers side of the dash that has nice pretty pictures showing you how to open the hood. Man they got pissed because I let them search for 30 minutes like the fools they are looking for the answer. LOL

After the purchase I started taking the van in for its routine service per the warranty. This is where the so called service people showed just how stupid they are. I started noticing that stuff was not done that was written on the service ticket as being done. So I set the up for failure. I marked my tires, oil filer, checked tire pressures and ran my windshield washer fluid tank empty on the drive to the dealership. After they handed me the service ticket after everything was said to be completed, I asked the maintenance manger to walk outside with me to look the van over. (this was done with many customers watching) I opened the hood and showed him the empty washer fluid tank that was marked as being filled, showed him the markings on the tires that were still in the same spots yet the paper showed they rotated my tires, and she oil filter with my name on it that they say they changed. Then I had him use their tire pressure gauge to check my tires. This is where it got real funny. The front tires were 35 psi and the rear tires were 35 psi also. But yet the fronts started out in my drive way at 40 psi and the rears at 49 psi. The service staff and the manager all stood there in the parking lot and argued with me that the ford specs for the 2012 Ford Transit Connects calls for 35 psi in all 4 tires. (The funny part) I pointed out the sticker in the door jam that calls for 40 psi front and 49 psi rear to them and they claimed it was wrong. The whole lot of customers got a real good laugh out of all of this as they were all asking for refunds and leaving.

This has been the case at both of the ford dealerships here. Dont get the wrong impression by this post. I like ford and ford vehicles. But if you want the service DONE and done right dont take it to the dealership, and if you have actual questions you need help with ask someone who know something about cars as sales staff know nothing but what the stickers state on the windows. And this is not the case for all dealerships, some of them actually train their staff on the vehicles they sell though they are few of them. Just my 2 cents (or maybe a 1.50). Still loving my TC, and even more now that I know she is being taken care of properly. (Doing the service stuff myself now)

Yes, on the American model of the TC, inside the console has USB ports. They do charge a device, but it will try to play any music you have on the device. You will need to switch the input with the controls on the dash.
