    Hello everyone

The dash kit and harness are available. But the real problem is that your aftermarket equipment may not support all the features of your car. If you are an audiophile, OEM is never good enough. But how much are you going to enjoy the better sound, in a vehicle with lackluster insulation and road noise? If you want to do-it-yourself, start at Crutchfield. 2. About a decade or so ago, Ford claimed that the 4R75E 4 speed transmission was maintenance free. All that you had to do was check the dipstick. For what? I don't know. You will see the fluid turning dark. But nothing matters if you are not suppose to service it. That transmission was the updated version of the AOD & 4R70 transmissions that they used 1980. It came with a pan that did not have a drain plug, and no way to drain the torque converter. Every dealership did service it. The dealerships would not say no to an extra couple of hundred dollars to flush it with a fluid exchange machine. Amazing how a little maintenance on a maintenance free transmission, will offset catastrophic failure. Ford is not alone in the world of "lifetime" transmissions. Toyota, VW, Mercedes.....have all offered a version of a "lifetime" sealed transmission. No automaker can make a transmission which does not wear, with fluid which does not break down. At the dealership level, they use a machine to flush the 6F35. In the days of yore and yesteryear, flushing a transmission was considered a sin. The belief was that flushing did more harm than good. Some people felt it better to leave the contaminated tranny fluid in, and just wait for the rebuild. Modern transmission service equipment does not use a pump of any sort to damage the transmission with pressure. The typical dealership uses a machine with collects your contaminated fluid from the cooling line, and allows fresh fluid to refill your transmission from the return line. Even Jiffy Lube has that type of machine.
  3. Present this at your local dealer, and see if they will honor it........
  4. Ford actually specs their vehicles for Motorcraft Synthetic Blend. Not Full Synthetic. Motor oil prices vary. I believe that Wal*Mart has the best price on Motorcraft oil filters. As far as oil brand, everyone will have an opinion. I won't weigh in on boutique oil brands or even boutique filters. Plenty of research has already been done with used oil analysis and oil filters cut open. I will encourage using oil weight as specified in your owners manual. Transit Connect is 5W-20, with 0W-20 as an alternate for cooler climates. Again, with used oil analysis, plenty of people have found that even the Wal*Mart brand SuperTech is perfectly fine. Fram filters on the other hand, do come in different grades. The lowest price Fram is not very good. The higher price Fram models are better built. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "Ford Certified Mechanic"? I was not aware that Ford has a certification program for independent mechanics. I was under the impression that only the dealership technicians received continual ongoing training. In my area, there are shops that which specialize in certain makes & models. Even a shop which specializes in Mustangs, housed in a former dealership. They are probably more knowledgeable about Ford Mustang than most independent shops. But I don't see anything that says, "Ford Certified". And they cannot do things like "reflash" your computer when Ford releases an update. Nor are they allowed to perform warranty work. To my knowledge, no independent dealers get software updates to reflash the car, nor are they allowed to perform warranty work. Dealer rates will vary. Most dealers still put those little stickers in the windshield that ask you to return within 3000 - 5000 miles. Performing extra oil changes allows them to upsell you on other services. They want you in the shop for those oil changes. Ask your service advisor. I don't think they will have any problem charging you the "coupon price" every 3000 miles. Look for those coupons online. There is always a discount price for "The Works".
  5. If you care enough to change oil more than recommended, then you care enough to use higher price oil and filter. Which is expensive, and not cheap. Not possible to get better, and cheaper.

    Hello everyone

Factory radios in most cars are now much more complicated than simply a new radio and speakers. They are tied into the car's computer to interface with the backup cameras, security systems, hands free voice activated features, and steering wheel controls. Pretty soon, what we think of as a radio, will become the touchscreen for the vehicle's computer. The entire car can be started, gears selected, lights activated, and features you cannot even imagine....all on the touchscreen of your radio.

    Hello everyone

Maybe. But you usually need a better head unit for better sound to come out of the better speakers.
  8. Transit Connect oil change message activates between 7000 - 10000 miles. Or something like that. The vehicle's computer factors in driving style, maybe engine hours for constant idling, and perhaps calendar days for people who just don't drive a lot and your oil should be changed after a year or so. I think my oil change message comes on every 8 or 10 months..... But I don't quite remember. Pretty sure the first time was around 8XXX miles and the 2nd was around 16XXX miles. Or something like that. Big change from every 3000 miles. So either trust the engineers and wait for the dashboard message. Or do whatever you want.
  9. You either trust the engineering algorithm, or you don't. Oil change intervals have been hotly debated for decades. You could also use the more high cost motor oil which claims that it will be good for extended oil change intervals, then trust the car's computer. Or, use the oil of your choice, and send the used oil in for analysis to confirm your oil change interval. Maybe just stick with the old fashion every 3,000 mile schedule, know in the back of your mind that there is nothing wrong with the motor oil, but feel good that you are preventing catastrophic failure because you are changing the oil every 3,000 miles.
  10. Road hazards in The City are everywhere. Construction, neglected maintenance, storm damage...... I have hit so many potholes that is impossible to even guess which one did it. There are a few miles of freeway by the airport which are full of potholes for you to hit at 70 MPH. Never had a problem with trucks & Jeeps. The little low profile tire is just not as road hazard resistant.
  11. Interesting that someone would set the limit to 62. Speed limit is 65. Who did you buy this car from?
  12. Nope. Dealership tech did the work. I doubt if ha or she saved the broken part. I didn't ask for it either. I don't care. Free is free. But not free. Covered under warranty. Built into the purchase price. I'm glad Ford covered the towing also. 5 year warranty is better than 3 year warranty.
  13. The high roof looks interesting. Half the battle is the installation. Depending on who does the work.....it could be great. Just don't hire the kid with sport drink and cigarettes.
  14. It was a dealership. I know how people hate "stealerships". I admit I've had mixed results with sales & service. But all that depends on who your contact is as you walk through the door. You get a good salesperson, parts counter guy, or service writer, and your experience quickly becomes positive. At this very same dealership, I had a bad sales experience. Which is why I bought my car from another dealership, an hour away from home. I would rather take public transportation for 100 minutes, then drive a new car for an hour to get home, rather than allow that guy to book my sale into his commission for the month.
  15. The City. Capital "T". Manhattan is also referred to as "The City". San Francisco is also known as "the only East Coast town on the Left Coast". Awhile back, I did battle with a pothole on the freeway. My suspicion is that the damage was done at that point. Axle was not completely broken yet. But over the course of a few months, it finally gave out. Axle was replaced under bumper-to-bumper warranty. I only told the service advisor that it was fine when I drove it home and parked in the driveway. When I went to move the car, it was broken.
  16. Join the club. I bought my Transit Connect new. Since the first tank of gas, I've gotten bad mileage. I'm driving in city traffic, with California reformulated fuel. Here is some information from fueleconomy.gov The 2016 information was submitted by me. I tracked the the MPG until I got tired of doing it.
  17. The tech got the van up on the lift today. First thing that he saw was a broken passenger side axle. Part has been ordered. Once the axle is replaced, they will attempt to test drive. It could just be the broken axle.
  18. Amazon.com has these LED remote control wiring harnesses which allow for solid light, and strobe flashing. I have hooked them up to a lightbar, and various colored lights on the same circuit. Really easy if you have a little knowledge of wiring 12V red & black wires.

  20. What year is your van? How many miles? Is your warranty still available?
  21. With the right vehicle, you can expect gains in horsepower, torque, and fuel economy. Just not all of them together. With the larger engines, bolt on modifications and writing a new tune can significantly increase performance. Most vehicles are tuned to deliver better fuel economy and cleaner emissions, which usually decreases the performance. When you get more performance, the fuel economy goes down and your measured emissions will not be as clean. Obviously, since you are burning more fuel to make more power, your fuel usage will rise and more pollutants exit at the tailpipe. I recall loading a fuel economy tune on my truck. It made less power, throttle response was decreased, and the fuel savings was not worth mentioning since I found my foot pressing on the unresponsive accelerator a lot more. It did work, though. Shift into drive, take my foot off the brake, and gently feather the throttle to get moving. Drive a little slower, ease off throttle earlier, and allow for more coasting distance to the next red light. 27 gallon gas tank. I got close to an extra mile per gallon. With a truck that gets 10 - 12 miles per gallon, I could actually say that the gain was about 6% - 8%. Optimistically $6 - $8 savings on every $100 spent on fuel. Today, I drive with a "performance tune". Better throttle response. Firmer shifting. Recalibrated shift points. I found that my fuel usage was heavily dependent on road conditions such as stop & go traffic, and my heavy foot. A nice long road trip, where I can travel on the freeway for a couple of hours....and the fuel economy is surprisingly 18 - 20 MPG. My daily city driving gets about 10 - 12, sometimes 14 mpg. When a large engine is just sitting and idling, nothing good happens. But I was also only getting 16 - 17 mpg with my Transit Connect.
