TC Competition - 2015 Dodge Promaster City
windguy replied to windguy's topic in 2015 Ford Transit Connect
I would agree. It's good to have competition for products. keeps the pricing in line and makes the manufacturers work harder to add value. Ford is going to have to keep improving the TC if they want to build their customer base. -
TC Competition - 2015 Dodge Promaster City
windguy replied to windguy's topic in 2015 Ford Transit Connect
I created a side by side pic. very similar looking with subtle differences. I think the TC is a little more sportier looking, less commercial. It will be interesting to see the specs on the Dodge van when published. -
just read this review http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2015-ram-promaster-city-photos-and-info-news Dodge's website doesn't have much info http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/ram_promaster_city/ seems to be very similar to the TC they are going to be easily confused on the road between the two. some specs are one-up on the TC by a narrow margin. don't think it's enough to pick one over the other. some features I like, other I don't. in the looks department, I don't know. very similar in appearance to the TC but perhaps less refined and more industrial like. will be interesting to hear what others think.

you can contact these guys located in Southern Cal. http://www.allianceconversions.com/Custome-Jobs.html looks like they did the mods for the rental company, Jucy Rentals, who is based out of New Zealand. from the looks of one picture, Jucy shipped all the conversion components in a shipping container to the conversion company.

thanks Carl. it will be interesting to see how you like the TC vs the Flex. I think the TC is a bit shorter than the Flex, but slightly taller. will be great to see a pic of your TC being towed by a motorhome. Sound like you went with some nice options. I would agree on the big sunroof. your head would bake and cause permanent brain damage Sorry to hear about your dealer. I think that's the norm, unfortunately. My sales guy seems to be okay, he's a fleet sales director. If you go on Ford's TC Facebook page you can PM one of the Ford service persons that are active on it and they will check the status of your van. https://www.facebook.com/FordTransitConnectWagon one poster wrote "we waited 3 months from the time ours was built in Spain until it arrived at our dealer."

great to hear you've got a van on order. I was told by my dealer that my van will be built this month and I'll see it at the end of the year, so that's two months after build. you can try this website for tracking but I'm not sure it's very accurate http://www.cotus.ford.com/ your dealer should have the best tools for tracking the van but he won't know for sure either. since yours is a passenger model then it won't have to go through any of the supposed mods after going through customs. good luck! curious - since you already have a flex, why get a passenger van?
-
the 2014 manual says no. the 5 seater on the SWB has removable seats. the 7 seater on the LWB has seats that fold flat and don't remove. seems silly to me but but I'm sure there's a valid reason, maybe. ask the dealer to show you how they are removed. should be entertaining to watch provided he doesn't use an impact wrench.
-
can you find a dealer in your area that has a 2014 available for a test drive? road noise is a subjective thing so you could make that judgement best. I think other posters have mentioned that one contributor to road noise is the tires. good luck!

Stumbled across this van on the internet today and wanted to share. http://www.jucyrentals.com/vehicles/jucy-champ.aspx?_ga=1.264655116.2036638751.1411945494 I've seen a few of these before pulling into a local beach campground next to where I surf and always figured it was a company van for some juice company. now it all makes sense. interesting what amenities they added to a van to make a nice compact camper for touring. if you're interested, watch the video that shows the camper's features.

I just re-read your post and had to chuckle and comment on what you said. I've seen a bunch of the TC's on dealer lots but not passing by me from a distance. I got a good first glimpse of a TC on the road a few weeks ago. As it got closer I said, "hey, that's a TC". My first impression as it passed by, man that's an ugly van! So I guess I"m in "that camp" for now. Sorry if this offends any TC owner's. From the side, it's something about how the windows and body drops down toward the front wheel is not very appealing to my eye. The front view looks fine. I think they wanted to keep the van from being too boxy. There's no doubt it's not a Sienna, Odyssey or Caravan, which all look very similar to me. But, I'm not getting the van because it would be a babe magnet, purely for utility purposes. This is definitely not a mid-life crisis vehicle

Disable rear automatic locks....Please
windguy replied to jlfanch3's topic in 2014 Ford Transit Connect
there's a chance they just didn't think of it. I can see your point but never considered that before you mentioned it. since the TC shares its form factor as a cargo and passenger model the cargo version doesn't have special features that would be conducive to cargo or commercial use. there should be a list of options available for this, like a bulkhead, not just aftermarket products. One example that's missing in my opinion is some beefy truck tires, not these passenger things they put on to pimp the gas mileage, if that's the reason. For the Van/cargo version, light truck tires. For the Passenger version - all season touring tires. -
what would innovative and cool is if you could flip the backrest so the seat reverses with the seat part staying stationary. not sure how the angle/tilt of the seat would feel sitting opposite.but it's just a concept for when the seat wouldn't be able to swivel. they used to do this on commuter trains so you can face forward if the train reverses direction.

thanks 103west43rd I sent NWCamperman a PM asking if he can provide some updates on his camper van conversion. He's got some interesting amenities added that others might be interested in as well.

one thing to consider when adding a seat cover is the air bag system in the van. Custom seat covers take this into account. Not sure about low cost generic seat covers. I checked on the Gen 2 TC (2014+) and there are air bags in the sides of the seat per the manual. Not sure about the Gen 1 TC. See page 37 (40 of 401) of the manual, cut/pasted below: The side airbags are located on the outboard side of the seatbacks of the front seats. In certain sideways crashes, the airbag on the side affected by the crash will be inflated. The airbag was designed to inflate between the door panel and occupant to further enhance the protection provided occupants in side impact crashes. Do not use accessory seat covers. The use of accessory seat covers may prevent the deployment of the side airbags and increase the risk of injury in an accident.

I have the same interest as bikinchris in providing ventilation to the cargo area of the van model. For me, it would be a 2015 LWB, but I think the same technical issues and potential solutions exist for both generation TCs. The van will have fixed glass windows on the sliders and rear doors. Too bad there isn't an option for windows that open. Maybe Ford's thinking is if there aren't passengers in the back, then no need to provide any ventilation and best to keep the cargo area secured. In my current wagon, I crack all four windows a tad when it's warm outside. I'm sure others do the same with their cars. If I decide to camp in the van it would be nice to have some ventilation as well. What do other TC owners do about heat build up in the van? What solutions are available that won't make the van look like an RV? A lot of van conversion use a Fan-tastic vent http://www.fantasticvent.com/ They offer static vents or fans that run off a 12V house battery. Those seem pretty popular but perhaps better for a higher roof van so it's less visible. A solar powered vent would work good and provide the best level of security. I checked them out online and they had mixed reviews and the selection is limited. There are also a few models available that are used to provide positive ventilation for black water systems. I guess those could be adapted for this type of application. As bikinchris mentioned, water egress is an important factor, so not sure they could be used. Aftermarket window supplier C.R. Laurence offers windows for 2010-2013 TC vans but they are all fixed. http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showline/default.aspx?GroupID=54910&History=30587:21889:16124:21889:2087&pom=0 Appreciate the input

great pics. thanks for posting. your van looks great. ok, now I'm officially jealous cool to see the TC next to its big brother T. enjoy your new ride! -
try this link http://web.forret.com/tools/megapixel.asp?width=1000&height=500 @eazy - sorry about the detour on your thread
-
nah, that's too easy. if you use the "view new content" feature, which I think you're already doing, you'll find the post quickly. for the same reason they use scantily clad woman in advertising or more recently dogs and cats. It draws your attention. BTW - you need to update your profile and add in your new TC XL Van instead of your Honda. Out with the old and in with new! I won't bug you about posting a pic

I like obscure references, to a point. It makes you think, and that's a good thing. Today, too many people want things spoon fed to them. But, I'm not familiar with the movie Frozen so I couldn't make the complete connection. I watched a video on youtube for the song and that's a sad story, dang!. Your daughter likes that? I guess if you listen to the song and not watch the video part it can grab you. I guess with you having kid(s) you are bombarded with this type of "entertainment".

@eazy - thanks for the input. the TC sounds ideal for how you want to use it. enjoy!
-
@Ian - thanks for posting your story. great pic of your new van. very nice looking. I'm 6-2 and looking forward to having a vehicle that my head doesn't touch the headliner. The TC has lots of headroom. What do you like and dislike about your TC so far? What options does your TC have?

How can i access the trip computer menu?
windguy replied to Johnyguy's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Impressions
just a guess, but the XL model doesn't have a trip computer. only on the XLT model. the XL model does not have a lot of the extras that come with the XLT, like cruise control. perhaps someone else with a 2014 XL can answer this question. as 103west43rd suggested in another thread, talk to your dealer about this. -

until you post a pic of your new van I won't provide any help below is a link to the 2014 TC Owner's Manual that you can download and save. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Catalog/owner_information/2014-transitconnect-owner-manual-version-1_EN-US_11_2013.pdf there will be a quiz on Monday so study hard my friend MODERATOR - it would be cool to have a wiki or at least a sticky thread where we can post links for manuals and ordering guides to make it easy to find rather than letting them get buried in posts. maybe you already have one and I missed it. thanks!
