16’ Trans Connect - Parking aid malfunction, service required, disables van

Good update. Seemed like it was happening regularly and now it's not, so you may be right on the reset fixing the problem. It was a strange problem to begin with. Forscan is such a great tool. Glad you were able to use it effectively to solve your problem.

Thank ya Sir! I found a PAM at the local wrecker for $150 but oddly enough, this issue has not reoccurred since it left me stranded last time. The last time it happened I reset the PAM w FORScan so I’m thinking maybe it just needed to be rebooted, I dunno but it hasn’t happened in a few weeks and this van logs at least 150 mi/day in the same conditions that triggered the first incident.

Not just that. It's extremely ad-heavy. Ads cover the whole screen on a phone.

@MODERATORS - last few times in the past year I've made a post, or attempted to, it's really slow or difficult to SUBMIT REPLY and complete the post. Just spins for minutes on end before posting, sometimes. It's not very robust. Maybe it's just me, but something to check into. Perhaps that's a reason why the posting traffic on this once popular site has dropped off dramatically. Thanks for your support!

@NastyNate338 - Sorry to hear of your woes. You provided good diagnostic details. Sounds like you've isolated it to a bad PAM. I too have a PAM in my 2015 cargo, located in the right rear. Very accessible. Only PAM issue I had was the front sensor speaker failed located above the headliner. No issues driving with the error condition. If you're thrifty and have spare time, perhaps you can locate a used PAM from a salvage yard. Probably the same part for 2014 - ? model years. A low mileage van should yield a newish PAM. Good luck! Keep us posted.

If I DC the PAM, I get an orange info warning but aside from warning, can operates normally. Agreed, it’s weird there’s no DTCs and that’s why I’m inclined to think it’s a failing PAM.

It is strange that there are no DTCs. What happens if you disconnect the PAM? It may be pulling the network down. You may be able to disable the PAM in Forscan if the disconnected module causes too many problems. I have a 2016 but don't have a PAM so I'm just guessing.

Got a funky one for you guys. This past Monday, I’m sitting in Van, idling w AC on, closing out a work order when Van dies. I turned ignition off then tried to restart it and a “parking aid malfunction” message accompanied by a “starting system fault” appeared on the dash. Checked all fuses = GOOD tested battery = GOOD inspected backup sensors, harness and connectors for corrosion, connection etc = GOOD Visually inspected wiring at PAM in cargo area = GOOD I disconnected battery to force a reset of the PAM and to clear any faults and then I was able to start it again. 45 min later at a stop light, it did it again and this was also resolved by DC the battery for 5 min. I bought a BT OBDII adapter and downloaded FORScan and tried to unsuccessfully recreate the fault so I could pull a DTC. It only happens when I’m parked and once while moving. I just have to wait til it happens and each time it’s reoccurred, FORScan is unable to pull DTCs off the PAM. I can reboot the PAM with FORScan now and start the van vs DC the battery so at least I have that going for me. When fault is active, it seems to trigger the anti theft because I can’t shift into neutral, roll down windows, nothing. I’ve disconnected the PAM for the time being and the van starts but I get the “parking aid fault service required” message. I’m thinking the PAM itself is hosed but don’t know how to test to verify before I drop $200 on a new one. I’m thinking if it was a sensor FORScan would spit a DTC that’s related to a sensor. Anyone know how to test a PAM? Anyone have any other ideas that I may be missing? Attached is a screenshot of the logs when the fault is active. Thanks in advance guys🤙🏽

Ford has no minivans left in Europe either. The Transit/Tourneo Connect is basically a VW Caddy Life and it's a VAN in its core, unlike Honda/Toyota/Chrysler products.

Re-time wipers?

If the wiper arms are tight on the posts , then you will need to go through the timing procedure. A good scan tool will make this easy. -
Re-time wipers?

First thing I would check is are they loose on the posts or are the arms or posts stripped. Do you have to pull one off to reset? -

Snow and ice has knocked my wipers out of time. How do I reset them? I can move them to full vertical on the windshield. Turn on the ignition and it stows them properly. Hit the lever again and the almost go back to vertical. Next actuation they go less than before. Less each time till they cross each other and jam about a foot from horizontal.

Saw this interesting article in Yahoo Finance this week. Titled "Minivan sales surge 21% in 2025 as millennial dads lead demand for cars offering the 'best bang for your buck'" Honda, Toyota, Kia and Chrysler are leading the pack. Figures that Ford missed this opportunity sheit canning the Transit Connect. Reactive rather than proactive and predicting the market and learning from the European Market. Anyone that owns a minivan understands the utility can't be beat. The heck with the optics that it's a soccer mom vehicle with no swagger. Ford had enough time to find a permanent solution to avoid tariffs (chicken tax). We'll see what their next move will be. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/minivan-sales-surge-21-in-2025-as-millennial-dads-lead-demand-for-cars-offering-the-best-bang-for-your-buck-143022892.html?err=1

7 Years later - Yup. I know. But I'm on this saga of finding the tall mirrors for Left Hand Drive and ship to US. Finally stumbled on this post after searching Germany and France ebay to limited success. Should I care the brand VIEWMAX is not OEM? Yes my van is 13 years old but it's only got 20,000 miles on the odo. It's basically new. Anyone have an oversears supplier for OE parts? Did anyone find someone else to replace FordPartsUK that many had used on this forum?

Looking for anyone that has experience or confirmation of changing the tire size settings in a Gen1 Transit connect. Specifically a 2013, US version. I understand it should be in theory possible with the lastest forscan software with custom circumference, but I have only read about other users successful doing so within the context of the later year TCs. Thanks,
-
Does anyone here have experience doing this on the Gen 1 TC? 2013?
-
3PMSF is self-certification so it doesn't really mean anything, objectively. Mine were first edition which were not much different from summer tires apart from aggressive and self cleaning pattern. Now (according to my tire guy) with CC3 they have finally nailed the compound for snow use but lost the treadwear characteristics. This is just plain physics, its impossible to have both - grip on ice/snow and long life.So if you are going to need to have separate summer tires anyway you might as well go with cheap proper winter tires which beat even CC3 hands down.

@Beta Don did those rims have a weight stamp rating on them? I’m wanting to upgrade my rims but I do need to still haul a decent weight capacity in my gen 1 van
-
@OLDSCHOOLFOOL I'm curiuos why you were interested in downsizing to 15's on this van? I see a lot of threads asking about upsizing the rim size (often for visual/better tire selection). I have the 2013 with 15's debating upsizing 16" rim to get a 215/65R15. Not completely sold yet as I have yet to figure out if I can forscan reprogram the speedo on the gen1 TC. Ultimately I want a better looking rim, ease of tire selection (though I am sacrificing load index and load range from factory spec, and weighing implications this might have in an accident and/or actual MPG hits with in ability to pressure up to 49 PSi with non XL rated tires such as the general grabber AT
