steve308
I've inherited a 2014 transit connect from a flower shop delivery service. The AC has a slow leak identified at the condenser with dye (easy fix) and it is dripping water into the interior when the AC is on. A shop local to me says it needs a new Evap core assembly at $550.00 + many hours of labor! No water pools under the van when the AC is on so I think the problem is simply a clogged drain hose. I can't find where the drain hose would exit to check it. Any help or a link to a video would be greatly appreciated. G B L
How long does the charge last? The water leak is a plugged drain in the evaporator box . clean out the drain and the water will stay out. When charged how does the AC work?
steve308
Thanks for the reply. AC last about a week. I put in the UV dye and the condenser glows. The shop that diagnosed the leak for the previous owner tried told them the evap box also needed to be replaced because of the leak. I've had some limited auto AC experience and it sounded like the shop was trying to take advantage of the woman who owned the van. I would like to make the repair and offer to return the van to the woman who owns the flower shop. I plan to have the system vacuumed down, replace the condenser and have the system leak checked and charged. For life of me a can't see the exit for the drain hose to clean it out. Where do I find it? Edited July 17, 2020 by steve308
steve308
Found the drain tube. Pain in the a$$ but got it cleared. All test indicate the condenser is leaking. Pulled out the 134, Changed the condenser ($100.00). Pulled a vacuum. Recharged and all is good. Lady who owns the Flower shop doesn't want it back so I have a nice project van! Original shop estimate was $2500.00+! They should be locked up.
PhotoAl
Congratulations and a great van you have. Somehow I'm not at all surprised at your experience. Experience has taught me doing it myself usually get it done right but takes time. I am usually disappointed by dealerships and their service. Last week I was on vacation near Sarasota. TC had a rear tire with a small screw in it. Got online and chatted with a local dealer about could they fix it? Person chatting got my name and number but they never called back. It was a short notice but still would have taken just a moment to call and say "sorry but can't fit you in". Instead now I have a dislike for that dealership and harm has been done to Ford's reputation. Wound up driving 600 miles home with the slow leak and took it to my local tire shop who fixed it without any issues. I have used them for many years started way back in the last century when I would mail order tires for my BMW that could not be found locally. Same people were there this week but now we have masks on. Over the years have learned that plugged drains are the source of many problems. Sold my son's old Jetta wagon to a fella who worked for APR (turbo folks in Auburn AL and a great group). He posed the headliner and replaced the drain couplings and cleaned the drains. Amazing how simple some stuff is when you know how to do it, and again there are those things that are hard no matter how many times you have done it!
