Make a note of the miles you added on the new cluster. When you set the mileage add the extra miles to value from the original cluster . The vehicle mileage is stored in multiple places and you want everything to match.

Yes , I did I have a picture before remove original cluster so I will add what ever run before Change it ...

Do you know I what other module are stored.. to read it with forscan..?

Wow.. I'm liking my little cargo van more and more. I added this vehicle to my collection as a dedicated work vehicle. Yesterday I was sitting out in the driveway with Forscan connected so I could turn off the DRL's, my boyfriend walked out and laughed at my determination. I love tinkering with vehicles.

Ordered a gauge cluster off ebay, maybe I'll do that with the 8" atoto head unit upgrade. I already have a new bezel but haven't pulled the trigger on the radio yet. (Mine has the dumb radio, no bluetooth, etc.. I've been using an Amazon Alexa Auto with my phone.)

Thanks Don for the awesome info. I'm going to troll your other posts and see what other mods you've done.

If you want the black background screen, change the following in the IPC

720-03-01            xxxx   7xxx          (keep all numbers the same and just insert a 7 in the noted location)

For example, 720-03-01 in my IPC was: 2901   6004  and I changed it to 2901   7004.

Hello Don,

I did the change today but didn't work for me, the ipc still the same, Ford logo and blue background

But mine said 0000 0004 C9 before and now 2901 7004 C9.

First I only changed 0004 to 7004 but no change.. then change to 2901 7004 but no changes also...

I forgot to mention that I had upgraded the firmware in my IPC to the latest version. I wondered if this was going to be critical and it appears that this is the difference between our results. My testing showed that 0 or any even number in Xxxx triggered the blue tone background (and half were KM/H and other half MPH), and odd numbers triggered the black background (also with KM and MPH settings). My IPC was originally from a 2016 TC so the firmware was several versions old.

You may have to upgrade the firmware...send me a PM and we can talk about it.

Success!

The new cluster works perfectly. I used the configuration that was in the new cluster and changed one register to match my old cluster:

720-03-01 2B01 xxxx xxxx changd to 2901 xxxx xxxx

This register may be related to navigation, which I don't have.

Overall this swap was very easy once I found the used cluster. It cost $90 to update the odometer http://odo-pro.com/index.html

i have a question.. when you said: "I used the configuration that was in the new cluster and changed one register to match my old cluster"

but then you said that you paid $90 to update the cluster... can you explain a little bit more? what does the update part means?

Older versions of Forscan did not have the feature to set the odometer mileage. I had to send the cluster to a third party where they connected to the EEPROM in the cluster and input the mileage. Now Forscan will allow you to increase the mileage to a new value. The replacement cluster must start with lower mileage to use this feature.

The As Built data is a set of hex numbers that define all the settings for the IPC and some vehicle functions like cruise control, compass etc. The data looks like this:

      720-01-01     0000     0142     6C
     720-02-01     3801     0509     0E7F
     720-02-02     1217     1C21     26B7
     720-02-03     2C32     3941     4A4E
     720-02-04     5562     7285     9D78
     720-02-05     BBE1     0000     00CA
     720-02-06     002F
     720-03-01     2B01     6014     CB
     720-09-01     0000     00C0     F1
     720-18-01     19BF     FFFF     16
     720-22-01     BFFF     BFFF     C6
     720-23-01     FCFF     F3FE     37
     720-36-01     0000     0847     AD

If you buy a replacement cluster from the same model year, you probably don't need to make any changes in this data (except for the compass setting). The swap is plug and play except for the mileage setting.

PATS is in the IPC in older vehicles. After 2010 or 2012 PATS is located in the BCM. Forscan can't program keys for the newer PATS.

Seattle Chris,

What model/year is your van? I searched ebay, LKQ and other sites for photographs of the color display IPC. It looks like the 2015 Transit 250 has part number CK4T-10849 - BB to BK. The B suffix appears to identify the color display. I found one on LKQ.

2015 Ford Transit 250 Speedometer Head / Cluster - ~265909552 | LKQOnline

My buddy never proceeded with the upgrade but I remember doing some research and it looked straight forward.

I'll send you a PM with my contact info so we don't clog this thread with too much detail.

I also use Autotrader to find good photos of optional equipment and the VIN so we can get the configuration files to compare the standard vs upgraded IPC configuration files.

For those that find this forum Searching for the Transit.

it is indeed possible and was essentially a plug and play swap on my transit. Just have to adjust mileage .

please don't clog this forum with transit questions.

Thank you DON for ALL your help. Without you, this would not have been possible!
