That only serves to set a higher asking price, because the buyer will ask for a lower purchase price. Then they find a way to work in rebates, and still turn a profit. In some cases, the rebate is their profit. That's where you balk at the price, tell the dealer, "For that kind of money, I could drive a Mercedes Metris.
