i86hotdogs
Hey gang, I've been reading up on other forums about people removing their balance shafts on their 4 cyl engines. The benefits claimed is the engine can spin more freely with one less accessory on the drive, leading to a little boost in power, also dropping about 19lbs of weight. Cons include having to deal with some NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). Has anyone on here done it to the TC? Massive Speed System sells a kit that blocks the oil feed to the balance shaft (or where it used to be). See the link below. I've got the 2.5 Duratec, which is also in some trims of the Focus and some Mazdas. Looking at their forums, it's a bag of mixed reviews. Some say yes, others say no. Thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/Balance-Duratec-Cylinder-engines-products/dp/B01JQOM0Z8
mrtn
Probably a good idea if you also replace/balance and the pistons/connecting rods, make a manual conversion with a lightened flywheel and use a custom ECU to keep it running. You could also install the Two seat sports car module to go along with the engine mods.
