I saw on Autoblog.com the other day that it looks as though the E-Series Ford vans are about to be GONE after it's 50 year reign with Ford. Replacing those will be a totally new line called FORD TRANSIT. Interesting, I see many new models coming, the article said some new things should be out for the 2014 models, here we go!!!!

The bigger Transit, as opposed to the Connect, has been popular in Europe for some years. I guess maybe they plan on selling them here now too.

Altough it has been a few months since I've seen them, I have seen full size Transits high altitude testing, here in the Colorado Rockies, and my service advisor at the local dealership says that the testers stop there on a regular basis.

The full size Transit is about the same size as the Mercedes Sprinter vans. Since I have seen them testing here, I would fully expect them to be introduced here within a couple of years.

This is all part of Ford's plan to consolidate models across the globe, which streamlines production. The 2012 Focus is an example of how Ford is realigning a vehicle that had diverged into two totally different platforms, back to one platform globally. I think future rules and regulations, and fuel economy requirements, have something to do with the replacement of the E-series with the Transit. But I expect a whole lot of belly-aching from loyal E-series drivers, because the Transit is a very different vehicle from the traditional American V8 van. It is much closer to the Sprinter in many ways. I'm curious to see what it ends up being priced at. I went to the Mercedes Sprinter website and "built my own" using the least expensive model (SWB, low roof), the cost came to about $43,000... or nearly twice as much as what my company paid for the Transit Connect. An awful lot to pay for a cargo van. If Ford can sell a Transit at a more reasonable price, they could win over Sprinter shoppers.

I'm really excited to hear this. The Transit Connect has been an enormous success judging from the sheer numbers of them I see every day. This should encourage Ford to bring over some more work vans. I just hope the full size Transit comes with a diesel engine, and/or the Transit Connect gets a diesel for North America eventually.

I had heard rumours of Mercedes bringing the Vito over here as well, but I'd rather deal with a Ford dealer than a Mercedes dealer anyway.
