MonteButts
We are leasing a 2010 Transit Connect at work (4cyl Gas) automatic transmission. It has ~ 20k miles and has been fairly reliable up to this point. Last week while driving it home on the highway, out of nowhere it acted like I had slammed the transmission into first gear. The RPM's red-lined, the front end dove down and my speed shot from 70mph to 20mph . I pulled over and shut it off, and when I restarted it ran normally. The next day after about 30 minutes of highway driving it did the same exact thing. Took it into the local Ford dealer in Tupelo, and of course they can't find anything wrong with it and want me to pick it up. I'm reluctant to do so as in my opinion it is dangerous in this condition, and after much arguing they agreed to take it out again for a highway drive and try to find out. Any issues known to point them in a direction? They haven't seen many of the Transits, so I don't feel they know what to look for.
ncranchero
Since 90% of my driving is interstate that scenario would freak me out too, if not cause a major accident! Never heard of that happening before. Keep us informed!
MonteButts
Crap. The service manager says they drove it 110 miles and couldn't replicate it. So of course I'm sure it will do it as soon as I get on the highway in the pouring rain today.
ncranchero
Well, at least we can tell the accident investigators what happened to ya! You do the same for me!
JWWOODY
Monte; Was the cruise control on when it happened and did you hit the overdrive shut off button on the shift lever (by accident) when it happened? When I use the cruise and come to a hill with weight in the truck it does kick down to second or third gear and screams. I avoid cruise control on hilly terrain and wet roads. Woody Well, it happened twice. The first time the cruise was on, and my assumption at the time was I might have hit the OD button or knocked it out of gear, but I don't believe know I did. The next day the cruise was not on (a highway that passes through Tupelo but has stoplights) and I definitely didn't hit the OD. The actual gear down was MUICH more drastic than OD could do I've since concluded. More like taking a manual transmission at 60 mph and jamming it into 2nd gear. I bought a TC 2 month ago and it has 7034 miles and had some similar problems that you have discribed. highwy driving and some uphill driving have been the usage of my TC. No heavy loading. can"t quite belive it, but just loking for some light at the end of this tunnel. transmission kinds of slip at high revolutions and does not realese the overdrive shift( transmission only changes the firt three gears. My TC is at the shop for warranty, since it started with the symtoms like a week ago turning more severe whith use to to the level that its not fun to drive anymore!! will catch up whith you as soon as i get it back!! take care!! MonteButts
Wish I could help you. I took it back from the dealer after they couldn't recreate the problem, and it has never done it since.
pooldealer
My 2010 TC just hit 36000 miles. Here is what happened so far. 1) driverside door fell of due to upper hinge pin falling out downward. 2) had to replace window switches. 3) replaced blower motor control unit 4) now I have a problem with out of the blue the powertrain light illuminating ( wrench) while the car stops dead in its track (not even limp home, just runs at idle as if on 2 cylinders) Putting in neutral and restarting resolves the problem. According to dealer no troublecodes. I doublechecked the wiring TSB and that didn't solve the problem. Has anyone any ideas?? Thank you
Blue
My work transit has the same problems as above but at 25000kl it is now in the ford dealership with no reverse, no power when starting out, and First gear does not work at all. I don't know what's up but I will update when I get my van fixed . Also this morning when I started up to take her In, a lot of blue smoke, like a cloud?? Not sure where it came from . New update, spoke to dealer, I will be down 1 to 2 weeks , a new trany must be put in. Totally not fixable. I now have a Rental paid by dealer. All covered under warienty . Sensors in train melted together , is all I know. Good luck to all. Edited October 16, 2011 by Blue Meatball
