Well, the story has a happy ending.

Bill, the tech guy at Etrailer did not give up.  He contacted the engineering people at Cequent.  Cequent is one of the manufacturers of the harnesses that Etrailer sells.

It so happens that the Cequent office is about 10 minutes from my home and I was invited to bring my 2016 TC Hatchback to their lab and let them work on it.

Until then they had not had a hatchback to work on and were quite interested in getting at it.  Their findings are that the supplied connectors are correct  but finding and accessing the correct harness connector is a problem due to its "buried" location.  The correct connector is difficult to see and accessing it must be done by removing the interior panels on each side.  Once done, the supplied kit is correct.  The correction/improvement that the Cequent guys are going to make are to the installation instructions.

They used the rear terminal block as the power source and installed an in-line fuse for protection.

Sooo: apologies for demonstrating my lack of expertice and dragging it out so much.

My hat is off to Etrailer and Cequent for their wonderful business model.  They are definitely on my preferred list.

I just installed a Curt hitch and wiring kit (56218) on my recently purchased 2015 TC XLT wagon hatchback. Thanks to Fifty150 for posting the videos from etrailer.com

The hitch was so easy to install, I thought I made a mistake :). The wiring kit is beautifully designed, but a little more challenging to install due to the difficulty to access the connectors. I ended up removing the seat belt rewinder on the passenger side, to get better access. To power up the module, I ran the power line under the carpet alongside the green wire to the passenger side and hooked up to the fuse box in the cargo area. My manual says that F26 (not used) is 40A and for accessories, trailer tow module, so I connected to it with a spade connector and the 10A  fuse holder supplied. It appears to work, but I have not yet tried my trailer with it. Has anybody tried this route? Chuck S, is this what you are referring to, what the Cequent guys did?

You don't have to thank me.  All credit goes to etrailer for making the videos, and making them available......something the manufacturer of the part should have done.

You didn't like that last video of the guy who tells you don't read the directions, Old Time is gonna tell you how to do it right.  Then he proceeds to tell you that the manufacturer is wrong, and directs you to use the supplied hardware where he thinks it should go?  I like the part where he tells you not to remove the spare, because the manufacturer is wrong; and his tire is rubbing against the part, but it's okay, because it's better that way.  That was right about where I stopped watching the video, and started laughing.  I should have stopped watching right at the very beginning where he says that there are no jack points, so lift the vehicle by the seams.
