Prairie Pyro
Anyone have a real world time on engine and tranny replacement? The new to me 2012 has high miles and issues so found an engine with 7k on it and getting the transmission rebuilt. Mechanic said book shows 16 hours but then I know of other things that it exagerates way over.
mrtn
Transmission replacement takes 3 hours for a specialist, ideally, this includes disconnecting one end of the engine from the body to get the transmission out. Had my (manual) transmission replaced. The book also said 5+ hours but they managed to get it done in 3.
Prairie Pyro
Unfortunately I have a 4 speed slush box. Hoping to keep the initial costs down.
G B L
If the engine that you are installing is complete The time should be less. If the transmission is being rebuilt and the Engine only has 7K then the drive train will almost be new. If the shop knows what they are doing it should go well. If the TC Does not have rust, then it should go fast.
Prairie Pyro
Thanks. Hoping it will be without issues. No rust that I have seen as it came from Missouri just 179k miles. My mechanic is Ford trained but went on his own when the dealership moved because of high taxes. Focus engine needs to swap intake as the donor engine is cracked and timing chain cover. Little more $$$ than intended but still should be under 6k with everything for a very clean set of wheels. G B L
Sounds like a good plan, Pay attention to the valve timing when the timing cover is changed. http://www.ask.com/youtube?q=Ford+2.0+liter+focus+engine+valve+timing&v=RqwnDmDkZrQ&qsrc=472 Keep us posted on the adventure. Prairie Pyro
Another reason I wanted to go with engine replacement over just repairing the valves on the head was the possible wear of the timing chain assembly. I hatched a 2.2 on a Chevy HHR at 149k because of timing chain getting loose and jumped:(
