ggoerl
which steering wheels would be compatible? just similar yers that have cruise? I'm hoping to potentially get a wheel that also has stereo controls. Is there a list somewhere of compatible wheels? Don Ridley
2014-2016 should work (maybe 2017 & 2018 to get one in better condition). I don't have an authoritative list. Most will have both cruise and stereo controls. There is a post about someone who tried a steering wheel from a full size Transit that did not work. Look at car-part.com. I ran Forscan, changed my cruise control on and ASL on. I wrote the changes and they appear every time I load the profile already programed on the ECM. I have tried multiple resets of the IPC and BdyCM. I still get a steering wheel error. The Switch Incompatibility says TRUE. I have tried 3 different steering wheels(all have been similar and within 1 year on my model) and ordered a cruise control switch directly from ford that matched my vin. I have a 2014 Ford Transit Connect Wagon w/ LWB. Manufactured in 02/2014. I have also tried downloading older versions of Forescan such as the the ones that would have been used when it worked for others in the forum. Today I tried replacing the steering wheel angle sensor and I got the same errors. I have also tried changing the first IPC code to match the above post. This change did not occur within the the built functions. It does not seem to effect the issues or error codes. I tried removing the 5 button set on the left of the steering wheel and I still get the same error code eventually. I would love to get CC on my ford transit connect but its not looking like its possible for some unknown reason. Perhaps I have too old of a 2014 model? I am using the tool recommended on Forscan's website. My friend has a 2018 Ford Transit Connect and I tried adding cruise control to his car using the same wheels I purchased and ran into the same errors. A DTC comes up that the steering wheel is incompatible. Edited August 30 by cfredericks
Don Ridley
You may have a special situation, but your screenshots show you are not in engineering mode as required by Forscan. See attached.
cfredericks
Thank you, I can only make the change in engineering mode. I clicked on Adjustable Speed Limiter while in normal mode to take the screenshot. The changes were written successfully while in engineering mode. I am using a USB C to USB A adapter in order to use the USB tool. I am going to try to order the MX adapter today. The changes seem to writing though. I was able to change things like the beep for when the key is in the ignition and the beep for the seat belt warning. The adapter is a hail marry at this point. It's frustrating because this seems like a simple processs and I am running into the issue on 2 separate vehicles(same generation).
Don Ridley
Bad adapters have caused a lot of weird problems. Using a recommended adapter like the MX has been a solution many times. Fingers crossed...
cfredericks
The adapter didn't effect anything. Both adapters seemed to work. The other adapter was the one recommended by Forscan but my laptop didn't have USB A connection so I had to adapt from USB C to A. The changes show that they are written successfully. The only change I tried that worked was the seat belt beeper and the unlock function. Any other codes or checks I can do? The 7.5 A fuse for the steering module is good and the cruise buttons illuminate. I have tried the methods described on the 2014 & 2018 Transit Connect. No luck. Don Ridley
As you already mentioned, your 2014 may be an early version that had different firmware. My only suggestion is to try different Forscan settings, even ones that dont seem to apply or make sense.
