yzbert
Just bought a 2015 Transit Connect Wagon, no roof rail tracks from factory. Can I add roof rail tracks to this vehicle. Looks like there are mounting points with plastic grommets covering them. Want to add rails so i can carry Stand Up Paddleboards. Searched everywhere and can not see to find answer. DarbukaDave
The factory roof rack system is expensive if you buy it after the fact (mine came with it) and I don't think it's the best way of doing it anyway. I would much prefer a system with feet mounted to the roof directly. I think Thule has feet for our vehicle. The only thing you lose would be the ability to move the crossbars forward and backwards, but I really think the Thule rack is a better option (as far as I can tell, they make the official Ford crossbars anyway). The Wagon has the option to add roof rails when ordering from the factory, the Cargo version doesn't. DarbukaDave is correct in that ordering the roof rack option from Ford as a spare part is really expensive and not the best option. See the link below for extensive discussions regarding roof rack options. http://fordtransitconnectforum.com/topic/2406-roof-attachment-points-on-2014-transit-connect/#entry6928 I plan to add rails and crossbars to my Cargo van at some point if I need to put my windsurfing/surfing boards on the roof for a road trip. For now they go inside for local use. I'd go with Thule or Yakima rails and the same for crossbars. I think the systems are interchangeable. I have a friend that did that for his pickup truck shell and it's a nice system. size wise the rails can sit in the channel. perhaps you can post any questions on the existing rack thread to keep that info in one spot. good luck! I think the vantech universal rails are the sharpest looking option (see post #37 in that thread) and they allow a variety of foot and crossbar options.
