zepper
Has anyone taken their armrest off the driver seat? How easily did it come off? Roland did you take yours off yet?? I don't have a transit yet, but what I intend to use it for probably will require removal of the armrest. I know this question should be posted in a diff category but it didn't get any hits over there so I thought I'd try here. Thanks.
ncranchero
It appears that the arm rest is held on only by a snap ring. I have a pdf of the seat back disassembly and if you PM me your email address I'll send it to you or tell me how to post a pdf here and I'll do that. JWWOODY
THE DIAGRAMS IN THE SERVICE MANUAL SHOW THE "C" SPRING CLIP, BUT DON'T CLEARLY EXPLAIN HOW THE REMOVE IT. IT APPEARS YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE UPHOLSTERY AND PADDING TO GET TO THE GUTS OF THE SEAT BACK. THEY NOTED ONE THING VERY CLEARLY, CAUTION WARNING PERTAINING TO THE SIDE AIR BAG IN THE SEAT. ncranchero
Yeah, I don't think I'd personally remove the arm rest but that's me. What I don't figure is why they didn't put one on the passengers seat.
zepper
So just to update this link: Removing the armrest was a snap(ring)!! It turns out that all that was needed was to unzip the cloth cover of the armrest and mush the padding forward a bit, this exposed the square arm that holds the armrest on. If you press the seat fabric in at the base of this square arm you can see the snap ring "feet" from the back seat area. All that is left is a firm push with a square pliers, which moved the ring from the clamping position to the just holding on position. Then just a quick body tug to right and the armrest is off--no "considerable force" required. The clip is retained so if i ever need to insert the arm rest, I'll just push the clip back on from the front. No seat dissassembly required. I have only put about 30 miles on the transit so I am hoping I won't miss the armrest but if I do, I'll get some sort of aftermarket one for both driver and passenger that will work with my cargo.
