Wheels and Tires minus the Drama

Recommended Posts

The Continental Pro Contacts that came on the van give great pavement performance but....................

This is my driveway at camp and if it rains , the procontacts really show their SUCK and just sit and spin .

Snow in the winter was/is about the same , not much TRACTION .

So I found these , that are a Mud and Snow tire

Continental Extreme Contact DWS

The reviews on them are really good as far as winter traction goes so I gave them a shot .

I went with the 225 / 55/ ZR16 with a 95w load rating . They are just a bit wider and taller than the OEM tire .

Fits fine but does fill the front wheel well . no rubs and enough clearance all around .

Will report more on traction when I have "tested them further"

But the ride quality is definately better than the OEM's , a few decibels louder at hiway speed but barely noticeable .

Now onto the wheels ,

Motegi MR116 in Black with red stripe.

16 x 7's .........a half inch wider than OEM

5 x 4 1/4 (108mm) and a 5x 4.5 bolt circle on each rim , That means they work on Mustangs , Rangers , Focus , fusion Transit Connect etc. etc.

They have a 40 mm offset and fit perfectly . only thing is you need to use smaller diameter "TUNER lug nuts "

The van now loks pretty sharp even with the FROZEN WHITE delivery van paint job .

@mustang - great post - I new it was a winner from the title itself ;)

well done!

glad you found some new tires. I'm very interested in how these perform off pavement on loose dirt.

the wheels look very sharp too. it's a nice accent color. the red on the wheels picks up the red on the reflector and tail light. I like!

how many miles did you get on the OEM tires?

did you replace them cause they were worn or just cause they weren't cutting in for your needs?

and that trailer loaded is less than 2,000 pounds? really?

the oems were around 50% gone at 19,000 miles

need better traction was reason I pulled them .

the trailer does fine the machines are not as heavy as they look

the y are mostly plastic

interesting that the OEM's are rated at 80,000 miles.

realistically more like 40,000 then or 1/2.

okay on the trailer. nice to have your toys with you.

let us know how the new tires work out.
